Casting Jury Berlin – Youtube Video (CM)

Shortly before the Berlin Fashion Week our casting series went into the second round. This time it was called “Curvy Casting”! Together with the Les Soeurs shop we transformed the shop into a small and nice casting location. The jury sat at the end of the shop in front of a huge mirror, in front of them the long catwalk for the candidates. The shop turned out to be the perfect place for such a casting. The waiting among the candidates was made easier by all the great clothes all around. The atmosphere couldn’t have been better! You want to see more? The Fashion Week season has started again and so at the beginning of the year you can see the top models of this world on the catwalks in Milan, London, New York, Berlin and Paris. Every spring the designers present their new collections for the autumn/winter season of the year and in summer the new collections for spring/summer of the following year. What was especially hot at the fashion shows this year and what are the highlights of the fashion shows in Germany, you can find out here!

Now new! Highlight Berlin Fashion Week: The big closing show by CM – Read more about our fashion show agency here.

Fashion shows 2017 – The highlights from the fashion capitals of the world

What are the highlights and trends for the upcoming autumn/winter season in the fashion capitals Paris, Berlin, London and New York, we have summarized for you here.

    Fashion Week Paris – Highlights Autumn/Winter 2017

The fashion show of Rihanna’s collection ‘Fenty x Puma’, which took place in a stunning room with 1 trillion books lined up on the walls. This created the impression for the audience as if they had landed in a mixture of Harry Potter and Hip Hop. Definitely a highlight of the Paris Fashion Week!

The Yves Saint Laurent glitter boots were also one of the highlights of Paris Fashion Week 2017, worn at the Sophomore show by Anthony Vaccarello and reflecting the over the top glamour of the upcoming fall / winter season. The bad news. They cost around $10,000.

    Fashion Week Berlin – Highlights Autumn/Winter 2017

Lena Hoscheke convinced this year with her theme ‘Disney’ ! Mickey Mouse can be found on dresses, skirts combined with bright colors and the for Hoscheke known cuts of the 50s. The collection conveys good mood and light-heartedness, an important symbol for the disigner. “A hedonistic collection,” Hoschek says of her designs.

The big social media happening took place at the Riani show. This season: Sarah Lombardi in the front row and almost only social media stars and influencers on the catwalk. From Sami Slimani in a bathrobe to Farina Opoku they were all there, alternated by well-known model faces like Rebecca Mir, Monica Ivancan or Cheyenne Ochsenknecht.

    Fashion Week London – Highlights Autumn/Winter 2017

Burberry rediscovers itself at London Fashion Week. Designer Christopher Bailey is designing asymmetrically this year, with much looking like ordered chaos. We all don’t know what tomorrow will bring, we can try to figure it out though, right? In this sense, Bailey is a bit of an artist, and art was also present in his collection and show: artworks by Henry Moore decorated the edges of the venue, prints inspired by Moore were found on some of the designs.

Another highlight was designer Christopher Kane’s “Craft & Work” collection, which was full of things we associate with work, such as cut-out dishwashing sponges glued to pumps, rolled-up sleeves and smock-like dresses. And because Christopher Kane thinks in terms we don’t expect, he brought it all together with another world: outer space! This came in the form of UFO prints and materials such as a silver lamé.

Fashion Week New York – Highlights Fall/Winter 2017

Michael Kors, the fashion optimist sent down the runway a whole collection full of classics and must-haves for power women. Emphasized shoulders and defined waists were Michael Kors’ guiding principles, but he mixed up the retro silhouettes with modern details, slits and fringes. Masculine-cut coats, jackets and trousers offered timeless contrast to feminine tulip skirts, long flowing sparkling dresses with animal prints and plenty of opulent fur. Lots of tweed, cashmere and XXL scarves in sweater-sleeve look ensured a sense of security despite all the sensuality. Strong women are the order of the day at Michael Kors.

For New Faces: What is Berlin Fashion Week?

Although Berlin Fashion Week is not one of the “Big Four” of the fashion scene, it is also a fashion metropolis with a well-known and much-visited Fashion Week. Twice a year the fashion industry is drawn to the capital for Berlin Fashion Week. While for visitors and media, it is mainly about shows, the buyers and managers of different stores and fashion houses meet at the fashion fairs of Berlin. They all take place parallel to the various fashion shows. The events are always concentrated at two points in the city: the “Runway”, currently at the Jandorf department store, previously at the Brandenburg Gate and now and then at the Erika Hess Ice Stadium, and the “Stage”, in the meCollertors Room Berlin Mitte. Both are easy to reach for guests by shuttle bus. From Monday to Saturday it was: Fashion! Every day over ten shows, various side events and after show parties. There was something for everyone.

The first Fashion Week took place in New York City in the early 1940s. The name of the fashion week at that time was “Press Week”. Every major metropolis has its own fashion week. Worldwide it’s all about the latest pieces of the next collections. Also in Berlin! On the catwalks, collections by established designers such as Wolfgang Joop, Michael Michalsky or Hugo Boss are presented as well as by talented young designers and newcomers. The sponsoring of the Fashion-Week Berlin lies with Mercedes-Benz. The fashion shows in Berlin are seen as a springboard for international success for young designers and are a colourful, fascinating spectacle every season. Fashion enthusiasts from all over Germany make a seasonal pilgrimage to Berlin, marvel at the fashion shows, discover new designers, find out about new trends and party like crazy.

Fair model – small talk & presentation

Trade fair models are particularly sought after in the German fashion cities of Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Berlin and Munich, but also in media and trade fair cities such as Frankfurt, Cologne and Leipzig. Numerous ads for model jobs appear on the Internet for hairstyling and beauty fairs, cosmetics fairs, car fairs, fitness fairs and of course fashion fairs. But not all trade fair jobs are the same. Models should only accept jobs as a trade show model in the premium class, i.e. where the payment is appropriate and the models model in a high-quality environment, for reputable brands in the premium class and in a serious staging.

How do I find serious offers for a trade fair model job?

As many trade fairs there are in Germany, as many ads for trade fair model jobs are placed in the media. Especially new faces who are not yet familiar with the modeling industry should check the ads intensively for their seriousness! Because behind many, first harmless sounding model requests, hides one or the other black sheep. If you are represented by a model agency, discuss the job ad/job request with a booker, he/she will check it for its seriousness and quality. If you are not (yet) represented by a model agency, then check carefully yourself: Which products from which brand are involved? Who is behind the brand? How is the payment and what is expected of me? How is the location set up and how do I appear?

Helpful: Google the web, look for reviews and testimonials from other models. If you find more negative reviews: Don’t! As a model you should take care of your image and not be associated with dubious jobs, products or services. If you come across a quality modeling job at a trade show from a reputable client, it will have a positive impact on your modeling career.

      What exactly are trade fairs?

Basically, trade fairs are nothing more than strategically planned marketing events for manufacturers of products or service providers. These present their products or services to interested parties and potential customers (both buyers and dealers, the press, as well as end consumers) with the help of models.

      Fair types

There are many different fairs, very popular in Germany are cosmetics fairs, beauty fairs, car fairs, fitness fairs, shoe fairs and fashion fairs. Since such events appeal to a large audience, the fairs tend to take place in large cities, such as Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Frankfurt or Cologne.

What does a trade fair model have to do anyway?

Why are models so popular at trade fairs? The answer is simple: Beautiful and interesting people who reflect the company’s philosophy and the message of the products/services attract more potential customers, i.e. a good model supports the company’s reputation, image and ultimately its sales. Both experienced professional models and new faces are booked as models for trade fairs.

Tasks of a trade fair model

Basically, the tasks are very similar: The model presents the products and services in the sense of the manufacturer in front of an audience. The top priority is a friendly, open and well-groomed appearance. The models are the “face” of the respective company for the duration of the trade fair and they are usually in “direct” contact with the customer, which is why politeness and a positive aura are the be-all and end-all of a trade fair model.

As a classic trade fair model you usually welcome the guests and “take care” of them, this is more or less intensive depending on the wishes of the client. Either you as a model guide the guests with interest to a separate specialist staff or you inform the visitors about the product or the services. To support this, it is best to explain directly on the “object” itself, for example on a new cream or a new car model.

What are the job differences per show?

The tasks of a trade fair model vary depending on the trade fair. While you inform customers about the car model at the IAA in Frankfurt or present and “pitch” a new cosmetic product at Beauty Düsseldorf, you function more as a classic catwalk model at fashion and textile fairs, such as the Cdp in Düsseldorf or MMC Leipzig. Here, the fashion collections are presented by the models on the catwalk or in the form of a showroom.

      Difference Catwalk & Showroom

A catwalk appearance is purely about the presentation of the fashion piece on the catwalk, in a showroom, on the other hand, the model can be asked questions about her respective outfit, i.e. you must be well informed about the fashion collection. To show the customer exactly what is special about the collection, you point out a clever seam with a hand movement, for example, or open the handbag to show how much space it offers.

      Show & Order Fairs

Fashion Week in Berlin is also a huge fashion show-and-order fair, here you can admire models in casual looks, evening wear or swimwear on the runways, such as bread and butter, but buyers can also visit the so-called “order fairs”, such as Panorama Berlin or Premium Messe, and reserve collection pieces from various brands.

      Styling demonstration at hairdressing fairs

At a hairdressing trade fair, such as top hair international in Düsseldorf, models have their hair styled in front of the public, so the trade fair visitor sees directly live on site how good the service of the provider and the products used are. To support and also as an incentive for visiting such a hairdressing or beauty fair, the products are not infrequently also applied and demonstrated directly to the fair guest. Nothing convinces the end consumer more than a personal test – except of course a competent trade fair model.

The fashion boutique, Macke a real veteran in Berlin

Are you looking for a friendly fashion store in the middle of Berlin? Here you are right!

The “Macke” Boutique – Berliners love the uncomplicated atmosphere. Good advice, a good coffee or prosecco. The idea for the store came from Paris! In the Schöneberger Kiez, between restaurant, weekly market and shops, Macke became an insider tip. It all started very small in Berlin-Kreuzberg over 20 years ago. Back then, “Macke” was still a shop for selected B-goods, just with little quirks. A concept that was successful! Today it is handpicked Berlin designer goods and selected pieces. With special details between the designer pieces: Accessories, little things and smart gift ideas for special occasions. The “Macke” is also a recommendation in our list: Boutqiue Berlin.
