Model agency big sizes: When am I too big for the catwalk?

Is there a model agency for big sizes? There are no special agencies for oversized models, but there are good recommendations for you if you are looking for a model agency. As a rule one works as a model agency with female models, who have a body height of 175 to 180 cm. For men models a rough rule of 185 to 192 cm applies. If you are taller than that, then you should perhaps not try one of the classic model agencies, but apply to an alternative model agency or people agency.

People Agency – Alternative to Model Agency

Here you are looking for special characters for commercials, probably the biggest market for models. Many different characters are used in commercials. Different sizes, different hairstyles, from bald to long hair, tooth gaps, freckles, everything that makes a person. These agencies will most likely have the right customers for you, as they specifically ask the people agencies.

Model agency NRW – Become a Model & Requirements

Model agency Nordrhein-Westfalen – also in NRW many young models are looking for a good model agency. Whether in Cologne, Düsseldorf or the cities of the Ruhr area, from Dortmund to Essen and Bielefeld. North Rhine-Westphalia is the most populous region in Europe and therefore a perfect stepping stone into a career for models. With good connections to Germany, such as Berlin or Munich, but also close to European metropolises such as Paris and Amsterdam, NRW is an interesting location. Not only the agency landscape, also many customers have their location.

Modeling in North Rhine-Westphalia

Anyone who works as a model in North Rhine-Westphalia has a wide range of possibilities here. Düsseldorf is home to many fashion brands, from C&A to Peek and Cloppenburg to Hugo Boss. Various fashion shows, events and store openings. Cologne is also a media metropolis, with RTL, VOX but also large corporations such as Rewe. Photoshootings, commercials or also Shootings for Onlineshops, here one can collect as a model thus fast much experience, completely differently than in other areas in Germany. Therefore it is worthwhile to think about your own career at an early stage so that you can gain your first experience as early as possible and then make the leap into a professional modeling career.

Minimum dimensions and requirements for North Rhine-Westphalia

As a model it is no different in NRW than in the other federal states, from Bavaria to Berlin. There are individual requirements and prerequisites for each area, which you must fulfill for the majority of the jobs. For example, productions for advertising, fashion and also high fashion differ. The prerequisites for jobs in the beauty sector and jobs for sports models also differ. So there are individual guidelines for everyone. In general, however, it can be said that minimum sizes apply to the majority of models.

Female models in NRW

As a female model you should bring a minimum size of 174 cm with you in NRW, you should have a good skin structure and full hair. Your figure should be strong and you should usually have a ready-made size of 34 or 36. So you have chances for most jobs when it comes to photo shoots for online shops or even for commercials. Since you ultimately want to earn money with modeling, you should find your market and therefore also consider the respective requirements. Ideally, you don’t have tattoos or piercings. Here once again everything important summarized

  • Minimum size women of 174 cm
  • Fabrication 34/36
  • No tattoos, piercings, etc.

Men models in NRW

Of course, certain basic requirements also apply to men and boys, especially when it comes to jobs in fashion. Since most jobs take place here, however, less in commercial advertising, because here the characters are rather interchangeable, you should also as a man observe the requirements and minimum dimensions.

As a male model, a body height of at least 185 cm is recommended. For men, the clothing size varies depending on whether you want to focus on a career as an international model or a sports model. Anyone who later wants to work on the international stage at the age of 18 or 19 should have a slim, slightly defined figure. If you train too much and have too many muscles, you will be out for many jobs for many customers, especially in the big fashion metropolises around Paris and Milan, but also in Germany, e.g. in Berlin. Here once again summarized the most important information for male models

  • Minimum size men of 185 cm
  • Slim or slightly defined, sporty figure

Model Coachings in NRW

If you want to apply in our model agency, then you not only have the advantage of having one of the best management in Germany behind you, we also offer regular model coaching. Here we invite our experts and trainers to prepare our models for the most important first jobs. In particular, it is first and foremost a question of cooperation with the Agency. Punctuality, communication but also fast information, e.g. to free appointments or if you have to shoot a small video for a commercial spontaneously. All this has to work quickly so that you have the best chances of getting the jobs. For all photo shootings there is a strict deadline, also for the model selection.

A large part of the coaching deals with the topic of self-confidence and personality. How do you enter a room? Especially when it is early, when you arrived the evening before by plane, came directly from the hotel and now 15 people stand tired on the set and wait. Who’s got the power? You! You!

In addition there are tips from our fashion photographer for the first photo shoot, especially facial expressions, gestures but also posing in groups. E.g. for photos showing friends shopping and having fun together in the city or many different other situations. At the end there’s still the fashion show. No matter if it is the small showroom, the fashion show in Berlin or the international catwalk in Milan, all turns and movements have to sit. That’s why model coachings are so important and as one of the top agencies we attach great importance to our models making fast progress.

Become a Model Frankfurt: Agency, Jobs and Travel – Questions and Answers

Frankfurter Models – Today we wanted to give all young young models in Frankfurt am Main a little insight into the work of a model agency in Frankfurt. Did you know that most jobs don’t take place in Frankfurt? But let’s start with the basic questions that arise about models. Becoming a model is quite demanding, because you already start at school. So you have to concentrate not only on good grades, but also on keeping your requirements and improving yourself.

Become a model in Frankfurt Main: How it works

Basically these question always arises first:

How old do I have to be to start modeling?

If you want to be represented and managed as a model in an international model agency like ours, you should be at least 15 years old. As a model agency, we recommend that you concentrate fully on school before you start.

Of course there are not only teenagers and teen models in the model industry, but also models with 20, 30 or even 60 years, so-called Best Agers. We also have tips for you!

Full concentration on school

Good grades and a good basic education will help you a lot later in your job. After all, the better you get, the more flights you have to make, the more punctual you have to get to hotels in new cities where you have to find your way around again and again. Sometimes you have to show some spontaneity for small advertising jobs or moderations. After the shootings or in the breaks, there are small small talks. If you then have a Magazine Shooting and can’t communicate off-set with the others who have usually seen a lot of the world, you shine less than with good general knowledge. But the more you get close to the end of your school days, the more often you will get booking requests from your model agency or cities outside Frankfurt. In addition, there are often travel days, so you are on the road for two or three days. The better your grades are, the more likely your school is to give you this freedom.

Legal requirements and labour law

The second important point in the minimum age of 15 years are the labour laws and regulations that exist in Germany. With 15 years you may already work substantially more freely, under 15 years you need special permissions, e.g. from the youth welfare department in addition, from a specialist. In an international model agency like ours you work a lot with fashion and products for a target group that is also over 16 years. Therefore international model agencies focus on models with 15, 16 years.

International jobs and customers

The third important point, if you want to work internationally, you need time to travel. Such a stay abroad usually lasts at least 45 days, but mostly even 60 days. The only time students really have time for such a long stay, including the trip, is during the summer holidays. In the summer holidays are generally rest periods, not only in Germany but also abroad. The families go on holiday and there is less production. Of course, there are fewer jobs for models. Some agencies, in Paris or also in Milan even close the agency completely for one or two weeks during this time. The high season for such a stay is then again September to December and afterwards from February to July.

In which cities are there the most jobs for models?

If you want to start your career from Frankfurt, your first focus will be on Germany and the larger cities in your area. This mainly includes Cologne but also Düsseldorf. The simple basic rule says that the more people live in a city, the more jobs, more advertising agencies, more manufacturing companies, but also more service providers and more advertising opportunities in the city center. The two factor plays the situation of the city, so there is e.g. a clear Top 10 in Germany. You can get most jobs as a model in Berlin and Hamburg. Especially in Berlin many international productions take place, in Hamburg there are many media agencies and therefore also many offers for models. Then come Munich, Cologne and just after that Frankfurt am Main, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

Alternative for Frankfurt Models: Cologne, Berlin and Frankfurt

In Frankfurt am Main, the view in the direction of Cologne and Düsseldorf is definitely the most worthwhile. But you can also do some interesting and exciting jobs in Frankfurt.

What jobs are there in Frankfurt? Of course you can do a wide range of jobs in Frankfurt. For example, you can work in the Frankfurt city centre for fashion designers and present fashion to customers from all over the world. Showrooms are closed events, usually only the fashion designers, someone from marketing and two representatives of the customer are present. You present the fashion on your body. Such a thing is called Fitting Model. Also in Frankfurt you will do many jobs in showrooms at the beginning of your modeling career. Besides, you will do your first photo shootings as a model in Frankfurt. Probably most of all for Instagram and with growing experience also for the first Frankfurt online shops. No matter if it’s about fashion, products from the technology industry or sports. The better you get and the more varied, the higher the chances are that customers will book you for jobs in Frankfurt.

With increasing experience, productions also increase in size. If you are first-class, you will also make it into the first commercials, as well as here for Opel, produced with three of our models near Frankfurt! With a production team of over 50 people, a helicopter, over ten cars that can be seen alone in the spot and a whole production team behind it.

How do I apply in a model agency in Frankfurt?

For your application in Frankfurt you don’t need much, the experienced eyes of the model agency see the requirements for models at a glance. All we need from you as a model agency are three to four photos. Important, you don’t have to book a professional photographer to improve your model portfolio. At the beginning, at the application, simple mobile phone photos are enough for us as an agency.

It is important that you can be seen in daylight. You should wear neither makeup nor styling, so that nothing distracts from you as a person. Because naturalness is also the most important thing for customers later on. When you later negotiate with customers or send the models abroad, many decisions are made on the basis of Polaroids. Polaroids are just such simple shots. Without styling, makeup, special outfit, nothing distracts from you. The background is a simple concrete wall, you are standing in front of the camera, looking into the lens, without posing and emotions. Naturalness is the A&O.

Read more about this topic here: Model Polaroids.

Do’s and Dont’s for Frankfurt Models

If you really want to become a model, you should avoid any unnatural influences beforehand. This includes simple gel nails but also going to the solarium, hair extensions, lips injections, do without everything! Because you are as beautiful as you are!

Application in a model agency

In the following you simply send your picture material to Modelagentur, some data as well as your contact, your name, place of residence but also the most important measurements as well as your body and clothing size. If a model agency is interested in you, they will get back to you as soon as possible, most likely within five days. So the process won’t take that long, if you don’t get any feedback from the model agencies, the look won’t suit you. Don’t ask any questions, because every model agency has only limited capacities and wants to take care of the models completely. If you are in an agency tomorrow, you would want full attention. If you don’t fit, you should accept this and try your luck in another agency.

How tall do I have to be as a model in Frankfurt?

The body size plays a decisive role, even if there is no completely uniform scale of measurements, the fashion world in particular focuses on a minimum body size of 175cm for women. You shouldn’t be bigger than 181cm either. This is the perfect size for pre-cut garments but also for fashion shows in Frankfurt. Meanwhile you should be at least 186 cm tall and maximum 190 cm in your application as men’s model. So you fit perfectly to the female cast, even if they wear high heels. It is important that you are not too much trained as a man, you should have a defined body, not be a muscle package.

These are the prerequisites for models who want to enter the fashion industry. Of course measurements can also deviate, models with 170 cm can also have success, but statistically it will be less. But if you still make an effort, show full commitment, who knows! You can also be more trained as a man, e.g. if you want to become a sportsman or Fitness Model. In an international agency like ours, however, you should normally meet the requirements.

Tip! Here you can find good Gyms in Frankfurt

The clothing size for women should be between 32 and 36. For Curvy Models, the sizes usually start at 42. For men, the ideal size at the beginning of a career is 48 to 52. If you want to become even more of a minimum size, check out the requirements for models here.

  • Women
    Body size for Fashion: 176 – 180cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 172 – 181cm / Germany
    Slim figure, usually long hair
  • Men
    Body size for Fashion: 186 – 190cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 184 – 194cm / Germany
    Slim or slightly sporty figure

What happens after my agency recording in Frankfurt am Main?

The following steps are very different from your age or the time you are going to spend with the school. For example, if you still have two years of school ahead of you, the first two years will focus on building your Modelbook and getting it ready for the national and international market. Your agency will arrange appointments with good photographers to help you with your portfolio. It is important for you always to pay attention to the quality, it is better to have few good photos than a mass of halfway good pictures. Because at the latest when you are in competition as a model, e.g. for jobs in other cities like Hamburg or Berlin, you need a strong portfolio where the customer can see with a few moments how good you are.

After the first year, the first jobs start slowly, it takes a while, because you first have to build up a model book and you have to have good performance in school, so that you get free, most productions, almost all of them, are during the week. If there’s one more day of travel and one day for the return journey, plus the booking is for 2 days, you’re quickly out for a week. Therefore you will work even less during school time and do smaller jobs as well as the previously mentioned showrooms in Frankfurt city centre or for Frankfurt online shops or social media channels like Instagram photo shootings.

If you’re already at the end of your school days at the agency, it’s sometimes a matter of placement abroad. As a model it should go on and on for you, from Frankfurt to Berlin, from Berlin to London Fashion Week and from London to Milan, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo. That’s exactly the plan of an international model agency and the reason why you’re playing in the professional league here. This requires special commitment, self-interest and of course a constant will to improve yourself. The job of a model is very demanding!

How to become a model in USA – Measurements, agencys and the competition

Every country has its modelling hotspots. In USA it is definitely New York and Los Angeles. It is always good to live in one of those cities because it is easier for the clients to book a model who is nearby. But everybody know models are always travelling, so for good jobs it will be no problem for a client to book a model who does not live in one of those hotspots. Also we as a Europe based agency always look for models in the U.S.A.

If you want to become a Model in the U.S, you have to have the right Measurements. Especially in the big markets they are very strict when it comes to height and measurements.

Measurements

For women in Los Angeles / New York / Chicago / …

  • Height: 174-181cm
  • Slim figure
  • You have to be a special type

For men in Los Angeles / New York / …

  • Height: 185-195 cm
  • Slim to athletic figure

If you are ready to become a model, apply now! The United States and cites like New York, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles are the biggest model markets in the U.S. Big brands have their office in LA, NY and on. We have a little guide to help you understand what it takes to become a model in one of the biggest markets in the modeling industry.

Do it yourself: Bust, Waist, Hips and Height

These are the measurements points for your first modeling agency application. Take care, that you are totally honest. More about: Take your own measurements for agencies, castings and jobs.

Why are model dimensions so important to get jobs?

Why are the measurements so important for models? You always have to imagine, there are many models. Whether a designer has his presentation in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Cape Town or even New York and Berlin, fashion collections are cut to a certain size, especially if they have been tailored for the next season and initially only on a few sample pieces to customers Fashion shows or showrooms are shown. These collection pieces are usually cut to a standard size, this standard size corresponds z.b. in high fashion a height of female models of 178 cm and usually a clothing size of 34 or 34, 36 (EU). Women should not be taller than 181 cm. For men, it is especially important that your body should not be over-trained. Why? So normal men can identify less with you. Men’s models should have a minimum size of 185 cm and a maximum height of 195 cm. If female models then wear high heels, the biggest differences are not too extreme. At a fashion show, all models are about the same size and nothing distracts from the fashion pieces.

The same is of course true for online shops, especially when it comes to the first parts of a collection, standard sizes are published. Whether it’s clothing, size S or M (US) or women’s footwear with a standard size of 36 to 38 (EU) for women and 42 and 43 (EU) for men.

Measurements for models for advertising

Those who only want to work in advertising, that is not in the field of high fashion fashion, for the dimensions are no longer so crucial. Here women can also succeed with a height of 170 cm or with a height of 183 cm. Even for men models, the dimensions are more flexible, advertising no longer requires the “absolute ideal dimensions” and the figure may also differ a little.

Requirements for Plus Size Models

Plus Size Models are really trendy. More and more fashion designers and creative arts directors are turning to curvy women in advertising. There is still a small difference between Plus Size Models and Curvy Models. Plus Size Models are models that are a little above the “normal” fashion model sizes, ie Plus Size Model are women who have a dress size of 38 or 40 (EU). Plus Size Models are great at working because more women can identify with them than they do with high fashion models. As a plus size model you can not only work for fashion customers, but also in advertising. This makes the job opportunities varied and so you can earn good money as a plus size model in the industry. You want to become a Plus Size Model? Then send us your application!

Curvy Models: Measurements and confection

Curvy models in women with a dress size between 42 and 44. Also, the cup size is much larger and can quite go to a G-Cup. Curvy models are just as popular as Plus Size Models because they appeal the most to the average woman. The average woman in Europe has a clothing size of 44. This means that even Curvy Models are only in average cut with an average dress size of 42 to 44. Even as a curvy model, we are very pleased about your application in our modeling agency.

People Models

The last section of the model revolves around those who have very special features. Extremely wild hair, tattoos, best agers and many more. As a People Model, you work mainly in the field of advertising, whether it is for a cereal commercial or for a comfortable mattress. People Models correspond to the normal look of everyday people. They have a special tooth gap, especially many curls or a striking and distinctive nose. Anyone who wants to work as a people model should not apply to a modeling agency, but to a special people agency. Where is the difference? People agencies work in advertising as well, the only thing they use less is fashion. As a People Mode you can also get hold of jobs in advertising, for online shops or classic advertising materials such as image brochures and catalogs.

Model measurements are as diverse as the job. There is a suitable agency for each area.

Competition! Advantages and Disadvantages for Models in the U.S.A

Advantages of a Big Markets:

  1. Exposure
You simply will not receive the same degree of exposure to other prospective future employers in a small market. Generally, smaller markets only offer commercial modeling opportunities. If you want to make a name for yourself, your only real option is to work in a big market.
  2. Opportunity
This one is fairly intuitive. A larger market has a larger demand for the same services. Working in a big market will simply provide more job opportunities in gross. The sheer number of advertising, editorial, and other marketing or content producing agencies in a big market create a larger demand for models.
  3. Money
This follows the previous two. Now, keep in mind, there are plenty of low-paying modeling gigs at every level and market. However, with so much demand and wider-reaching platforms, big markets are likely to have the biggest compensating jobs available.

Disadvantages of a Big Market:

  1. Competition
Not only will you have to compete for the same jobs with more people, many of them will have traveled to big markets for the same reason as you—better modeling gigs. This means that not only is the number of competition inflated, the QUALITY of the competition is also tougher as well.
  2. Scams
In smaller markets, where there are fewer opportunities for models to find work, there are subsequently fewer scams. Moreover, once an organization is discovered to be a scam, it is far harder to hide that fact in a small market. Unfortunately, with so many opportunities abound, it is easier for scammers to hide amongst the bustle and target naïve or new potential models.
  3. Criteria
With a glut of potential models, employers in big markets are able to have their “pick of the litter,” so to speak. This means that the standards for potential models become inflated with the inclusion of more competition. Thus, someone who may be a great candidate for modeling in a small market may not find the same opportunity in a bigger one.

The advertising model – model for advertising & sales talent

Advertising model – A professional goal of many prospective models is it to see itself finally in a advertising film or Werbeclip on the television or on-line. But also poster or print advertising is one of the fields of activity of an advertising model. For models, we give as a model agency in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne a little insight! Not only the income for the model is higher than for example in the area Catwalk, but also the awareness level of a model can increase enormously by an advertising campaign of a successful company or brand. This in turn means that the model not only collects valuable experience for the future, but also the market value of the model increases. And seriously – who wouldn’t like to smile down from a huge poster? Or generally associated with an exclusive company or brand? But what exactly hides behind the term “advertising model”?

Model Job Classic: advertising, billboards and advertising campaigns

What does a good photo model or advertising model do?

The term advertising model is a specific term for a model, which is particularly active in the field of advertising, i.e. advertising posters, advertisements, advertising films, advertising clips or the like. Such models are also called Commercial Models. They have a pretty face (according to the social norm), look natural and have a good figure, but not too thin.

Advertising model – prerequisites and requirements

The size is not basically insignificant as an advertising model, but in the advertising industry smaller models smaller models (e.g. with a size of 170 cm) also have a chance. Anyone who appears unthinkable on the catwalk can be exactly the right type in advertising. The girl or the boy next door, with a sympathetic charisma? Perfect. A radiant smile? Duty. The customer should finally be able to identify with the models.

Cared for exterior – The be-all and end-all in model business

Nevertheless, the model gives the company a certain image or should underline the already defined image of a company. To do this, the model must be able to identify with the company, and vice versa, the company with the model. In a cosmetics chain, for example, a photo model with impure skin and a face that is not symmetrical is unthinkable. Also with a hair advertising model there is a basic rule: The model must not have broken hair. So the exact type logically depends on the products and services to be advertised.

Advertising models – What do you earn?

The profession of the advertising model is particularly popular, since the payment for the jobs is significantly higher than for fashion models, for example on the catwalk. For an advertising model, it is essential that it is represented by a model agency that sets a high (justified) daily fee right from the start, as it is possible that subsequent jobs of this kind in the same product groups will be omitted. After all, the model should stand authentically for the product to be advertised. The recognition value of a model and a brand is decisive, therefore the faces of a big brand are reluctantly booked.

Advertising, advertising photography and spots for brands

Advertising is a broad sector in the area marketing. But what does everything count among them at all? And why is advertising one of the best paid jobs in the model business? In addition to poster advertising, flyers, catalogues, advertisements and general print advertising, advertising clips for both TV and the Internet are also part of the advertising spectrum. Through the instruments, e.g. the carrier media, companies try to polish up their image on the market or to set it at all. And they do so quite deliberately.

The big brands their marketing strategies

Well elaborated marketing strategies are behind an ultimately simple advertising campaign that is spread through the media. The enterprises try to address directly their target group and to communicate with this on another level to affect also. This has the goal that the customers feel addressed, identify themselves with the enterprise and the sales market finally increases. In order for the company to achieve these processes optimally, it is important to find the right models for the right advertising. Ultimately, it is these models that bring the company’s message to the customer.

Prerequisites Demands on a model in the advertising industry

The demands on an advertising model are manifold. Not only the corresponding appearance, good figure, certain size and a pretty face, counts. This is a prerequisite for gaining a foothold in the model business.

Self-confident, authentic and natural

However, success as an advertising model will only come to those who fully unfold in front of the camera and work ambitiously on themselves. An advertising model must feel comfortable in its skin. No matter how many pairs of eyes watch exactly how you shave your legs, smear a nut nougat cream bread or jump rope.

Authenticity is also very important, you have to stand for the corresponding brand and at the same time look real and natural, and a sympathetic charisma. Every viewer prefers the smart, bright girl next door to the arrogant prima ballerina. However, it’s also important for the nice neighbor girl that she shows a natural self-confidence. A quiet little mouse is out of place in the advertising industry.

The consumer should be able to remember you and associate the product with your strong charisma. Because everyone would like to be self-confident, energetic and positive. A radiant smile is just as much a top priority as good skin and beautiful hair. Good body care is a prerequisite. But the absolutely decisive argument for the selection of an advertising model is the acting talent. You have to be able to put yourself in a role and embody it with full conviction.

Requirements of modeling: Height, age and measurement

Model Measurements & Body Size – The classic model career every up-and-coming model dreams of almost always depends exclusively on the model’s body size. There are only a few exceptions, perhaps one in a thousand, who made it anyway due to their special nature. Everybody knows supermodel Kate Moss. She combines everything: a special look, a special charisma and she is always extremely committed to her work. In addition, she leads a very interesting private life for the media and thus also the right story.

Why are model dimensions so crucial for jobs?

Why are measurements so important for models? You always have to imagine there are many models. No matter if a designer has his presentation in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Cape Town or also New York and Berlin, fashion collections are cut to a certain size, especially if they have been tailor-made for the next season and are first shown to customers at fashion shows or in showrooms with a few sample pieces. These collection pieces are usually cut to a standard size, this standard size corresponds e.g. with High Fashion to a body size with female models of 178 cm and as a rule a confection size of 34 or 34, 36 (EU). Women should not be taller than 181 cm. For men, it is especially important that your body is not too well trained. What’s the matter with you? It makes it harder for normal men to identify with you. Male models should have a minimum size of 185 cm and a maximum size of 195 cm. When female models wear high heels, the biggest differences are not too extreme. At a fashion show then all models are about the same size and nothing distracts from the fashion has pieces.

The same applies of course to online shops, especially when it comes to the first pieces of a collection, standard sizes are issued. Whether it is clothing, size S or M (US), or standard size shoes from 36 to 38 (EU) for women and 42 or 43 (EU) for men.

Before we go into detail, these are the general “standards” for 95% of all jobs. The closer you are to these dimensions, the better the conditions – apart from personality.

  • Women
    Body size for Fashion: 176 – 180cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 172 – 181cm / Germany
    Slim figure, usually long hair
  • men
    Body size for Fashion: 186 – 190cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 184 – 194cm / Germany
    Slim or slightly sporty figure

Dimensions for models for advertising

If you only want to work in advertising, i.e. not in the field of high fashion fashion, the dimensions are no longer so decisive for you. Here women with a height of 170 cm can have success as well as with a height of 183 cm. Also for men models the measures are more flexible, advertisement does not require any more the “absolute ideal measures” and the figure can deviate also a little bit.

Prerequisites for Plus Size Models

Plus Size Models are really trendy. More and more fashion designers and creative arts directors are turning to curvaceous women in advertising. There is a small difference between Plus Size Models and Curvy Models. Plus Size Models are models that are a little above the “normal” fashion model sizes, i.e. Plus Size Models are women who have a clothing size of 38 or 40 (EU). Plus Size models can do a great job because more women can identify with them as they do with high fashion models. As a Plus Size Model you can therefore not only work for fashion customers, but also in advertising. That makes the job opportunities varied and so you can earn good money as a Plus Size Model in the industry. You want to be a Plus Size Model? Then send us your application!

Curvy Models: Dimensions and fabrication

Curvy models in women with a clothing size between 42 and 44. Also the cup size is much bigger and can go up to a G-Cup. Curvy Models are as popular as Plus Size Models, as they are most appealing to the average woman. The average woman in Europe has a clothing size of 44, which means that even Curvy models with an average clothing size of 42 to 44 are only generally average. Also as Curvy Model we are very happy about your application in our model agency.

People Models

The last part of the model’s section revolves around those who have very special traits. Extremely wild hair, tattoos, best agers and many more. As a people model you work mainly in the advertising sector, whether it is for a muesli commercial or for a comfortable mattress. People Models correspond to the normal look of everyday people. You have a special gap in your teeth, a lot of curls or a conspicuous and striking nose. If you want to work as a people model, you should not apply in a model agency but in a special people agency. What’s the difference? People agencies also work in advertising, the only thing they serve less is the field of fashion. But as a People Mode you can also get jobs in advertising, for online shops or even classic advertising materials such as image brochures and catalogs.

Model dimensions are as varied as the job itself. There is a suitable agency for every area.

In fact! Body size makes the difference in jobs for models

Every model agency is happy about such a diamond. For most people, however, the rule remains the same: Your modeling career is almost always decided on the basis of body size. When we go through applications in the agency, the first information displayed is not name or your residence, first we see the height. Of course, we always take a look at the photos. But as a smaller model you always need the special, international look or a finished model folder. For international customers, the body and clothing size of the models is particularly important. But first we look at what a typical customer from Germany attaches importance to in his inquiry.

Basically, the following specifications are usually given by the customer for the model agency:

  1. body size of the model (80% of the requests)
  2. Model’s clothing size (70% of requests)
  3. Looks of the model (hair length, hair color, skin tone, etc. to 65% of inquiries)
  4. Recognition value (only 10% of the requests)

Elegant presentation of fashion requires slim bodies

Elegance – In order for products to be presented elegantly, the figure of the model is crucial for fashion designers and their agencies. The proportions of the model must be right so that the overall presentation is right. Whether fashion show, advertising poster or commercial. Clothing looks much more elegant on slim bodies. We all know the famous “dream measurements” of 90-60-90 (hip/waist/breast). These three measures are considered ideal if they are in proportion to the body size.

As a high fashion model in Milan or Paris this is often too much. Your hip may be New Face gladly still narrower, also the chest. An 87-58-82 (H/T/B) has a good chance at casting in the fashion capitals.

Small models have less chances of getting big jobs

You don’t stand a chance as a woman at castings in fashion cities under 175cm. If you are smaller than 175 cm, you will unfortunately have no chance in the castings of the big designers. For online shops, labels and advertising in the national market, you still have the chance to get jobs, so it’s worth it, even as a smaller model, if you pay attention to your proportions. For example, if a product is presented by a person, not a group, body size is much less important. If the proportions are right and you have less than 90-60-90 at less than 175cm, the overall picture is right. However, PR and advertising agencies know that you tend to be less booked as a smaller model, so the fees are slightly lower. The sooner you are a model the scheme is: big and attractive, the easier it is for you.

Over 181cm it becomes again more difficult as a woman. Just as there are limits at the bottom, there are also limits at the top. Female models over 181 cm have it again more difficult. For one thing, you’re bigger than your colleagues. But you are also often taller than your male colleagues. With high heels you are as tall as most boys with 187 cm. Even on the catwalk. The fashion collections are only produced in one size for the first presentation. Mostly for dress size 34 (max. 34/36) at 175-179cm. Designers, teams and producers would have to change every single piece or book all models larger.

These are just two factors to describe why it becomes difficult to model successfully at a certain height. Nevertheless, you have good chances in the national advertising markets, for example in people agencies. They often have jobs very similar to model agencies: commercials, fairs & co. In every big city there are people agencies.

Advertising effect of elegance for brands of all kinds

In the international fashion industry, the rules are much stricter, as mentioned earlier. Instead of 90-60-90 it can be 87-58-82. Fashion designers as well as agencies are looking for models to present their products as high as possible. The higher the quality and more exclusive the product is to the consumer in the commercial or from the poster, the easier it is to justify a high price for the product or service. Therefore, as a good model who can sell products through looks and poses, you can also earn a lot of money. Even for individual advertising campaigns, four and five-digit amounts are quickly possible for one-day advertising productions, even for “new faces”. Why does advertising need models for events, photos and videos? Read more here: Advertising and its function in marketing.

Expensive or cheap: fashion must be presented elegantly

Even cheaper labels always try to reach the level of high-priced labels in advertising. Whether exclusive, international label or fashion startup, the model must have a slim body so that the garments fall optimally, no wrinkles throw and fit perfectly. This applies to all fashion metropolises and models in New York, Paris, London and Milan.

Fashion is always something special. Fashion thrives on being special! New fashion collections are regularly launched by designers worldwide, every season. Not only major international fashion designers and retail chains work in this way. Even small fashion labels have to constantly present their customers with new designs and cuts to attract their attention. So designers and fashion have to reinvent themselves again and again in order to remain interesting for consumers.

Curvy Model: Supersize models become more and more popular

Never before have they been so in demand – Curvy Models. Personality instead of “ideal measures”. The curves of the 50’s and together with the still prevailing size 0 models bring the next development in the fashion world, the Curvy Model. It is important to note this: Curvy isn’t just lazy and fast food. Nutrition is the A&O of every model, because you don’t want to lose your sporty curves. The market for Curvys is growing steadily and is being sought everywhere.

Shows in Milan, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and London

The new masterpieces are regularly presented at the Fashion Weeks. Milan, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and London. In spring, summer, autumn and winter people are always looking for new looks and trends. Almost all designers have one thing in common: they tailor their collections for tall, slim people. The clothes fall more elegantly, fabrics unfold their full effect, everything looks more exclusive and higher quality! Gracile figures make clothes and their possible price more expensive. Even if not all fashion brands work in this scheme, it is still the majority of the industry.

Fashion show dimensions

Fashion shows and fashion presentations are subject to an unwritten norm. For female models, a clothing size of 34 (max. 34/36) with a body size of 177-180 (176-181) cm is considered ideal at the beginning of their career. Your hip should be under 5 inches. For men models there is usually a clothing size of 48 (max. 50/52) with a body size of 185-192 cm. Here’s a tip for male models: At the beginning of your career, as a male model you should also pay attention to a younger look. If you already look too masculine in your first years as a model, you’ll quickly get a chance for jobs in the fashion industry and at castings. That’s why you as a male model should always go to castings with a shaved beard during the first years.

Modeling: Reality vs dream in New York, Paris and worldwide

It is the dream of many young girls, women, boys and men all over the world: to become a model! Living the glamorous life, wearing expensive designer clothes, travelling to the most beautiful places of the world, knowing important people and looking extremely beautiful.

Become a model: Who would not want that?

But a modelling career is so much more than just being “pretty”. As a model you are also a businesswoman or businessman. There will be a time when you will have to think about accounting, buyouts, travel expenses and organising your schedule as well. Of course there is a chapter for that, in which you will learn how to register as a self-employed model and how to do your accounting and taxes. But let’s get back to the basics again! As in any other profession, it is the same in modelling – ninety per cent work, and ten percent looks and talent. Luck? Well, the famous timing and luck will evolve from your commitment. The more you offer and work, the more you will get back from it. Nothing will just come by itself. Nobody was born as a model (we are excluding children and celebrities from this statement). In the end, modelling is a full-time job, hard work, requiring discipline and passion. At best, a portion of cleverness and being smart. But most of all, a great body and steady improvement. Between the dream of being a model and reality of being a model, there are many years of hard work, but you get the chance of adding glamour to your life!

Which requirements do you need to fulfill as a model?

Those are the questions, which I will answer in the first chapter of this book in a very detailed way. For you, it is important to know which agencies suit your requirements and where you will fit in. By choosing the right agency, you will be able to find the right clients for you with your book. On your way to becoming a model, it is mainly about your mental skills, body requirements, knowledge about the different modelling agencies, the perfect application, high quality images, castings, jobs, fashion and much more. Now you will learn how to properly assess yourself.

What do you have to be in order to be successful?

Inner strength and belief will be vital on your journey. As a model, it is important to be strong and self-confident, even though you had a long flight the day before and checked in late at your hotel last night. Tiredness, stress, time pressure? Nobody should notice all these things when you are at a casting.

Yes – modeling is a job that demands lots of commitment and self-confidence. Motivation and ambition will define you as model for clients and agencies. You have to be communicative, be able to organize all your appointments, take care of yourself (your look and body), be able to be versatile at photo shoots, timely flexible and be able to take last minute jobs. Your character is as important as your physical appearance – both will define your success.

A model always has to show discipline, strength and persistence. Jobs are quite often exhausting and long. Even when not all scenes are done by the end of the day and you will have to stay longer. Tiredness and stress should not be noticed when you are a professional model. If you are able to prove all these skills, many more agencies and clients will continue to book you for jobs. Continuous bookings are important for the model and agency if you want to entirely focus on your job.

Models are under constant pressure regarding their competition. At live or at e-castings, competition is right there. Usually more than one hundred models are being casted. If you are committed and make it to the fashion capitals of Europe, the US and Asia, you will be sent to castings on a daily basis. You will get your list in the morning for the entire day, and in the evening you will have to work out in a fitness studio and get to sleep, living in a model apartment. You will be tired in the evening. If everything goes well for you, you will not only attend important castings, but also walk some fashion shows. As I already said – all this demands you trusting your skills and a lot of energy!

If you are starting as a model in Europe, United States or worldwide, good for you because you are already in one of the best countries for modeling at the beginning for your career. Everything is highly regulated and clear. Working hours are set between clients and agencies, and are often limited. You will not only get paid for the working hours, but also for any overtime you do. Your payment is quite high from the very beginning, because they are set by the agency. Additionally, you will receive buyouts. Buyouts are extra payments for usage rights, for example, if a commercial is shown for more than a year on TV or in other countries. A lot of booking details are in your favor if you are staring your career in Germany. Luxury in our country is also at the set you are working at. Production teams are very friendly and usually take care of the models and make you feel comfortable. It starts with friendly greetings throughout to healthy and great catering. You will experience a very regulated and nice atmosphere.

Modeling worldwide: USA to Europe and Asia

As a model: Be thankful for that all the time!

If you are working as a model in Asian cities, many agencies will charge a higher commission (in Germany it is usually twenty percent, in Asia fifty), which is almost three times more than in Germany. The same goes for fashion capitals including Istanbul, where the conditions are worse at the beginning. Jobs are not paid that well, working hours might be ten to twelve hours, and instead of taking pictures of thirty looks, you will have to change into ninety different outfits.

Mental strength and charisma in major cities like New York

Clients want to sell their products and services via commercials to their customers, and in doing so they are using models. It is a mix of perfect portraying of emotions and the range of the commercial and the model itself. Emotions come to life by the charisma of the model. Therefore, it is important that you arrive at a set self-confident. It will show in your charisma. By loving what you are doing, the respective result will be achieved. Hence, for modeling agencies and agents, it is important that female and male models feel well in their skin. As a model, you have to be able to switch roles at sets in order to sell the customer the product or service. Read more about New York:

All about New York

Some tips for the first time as a model in New York:

Keeping it real and natural are the two magic words. These will attract the customers and the concept will be successful. Models “sell” commercials better. Therefore, jobs within commercials are very versatile: billboards, cinema spots, image films, online shops or social networks. All media comes alive because of models. Classic print media like magazines, image brochures, or interior design of stores in cities also take advantage of models and their attractive appearance. For all these media, it is vital that you are versatile likewise: facial expressions, gestures and your entire appearance. In short: clients and partners of the modeling agencies will look for an expressive face, convincing looks, great posture and coordination.

Self-confidence, reliability and being able to switch roles are three important skills for you to make your way into the fashion industry. Same applies to online shops, where you will have to smile constantly, or very demanding clients who expect perfection and pay for it. Especially with high fashion labels!

Self-confidence and strength

Many models start when they are young. Whilst others go shopping in the city after school, as a model, you will be at photo shoots, planning your next journey and have a lot of responsibility. You will see that later in your book. On set, you are working with different people, characters, and languages. You will travel a lot; have to find your way in foreign cities and most of the time, you will be by yourself.

Commitment and initiative

You will be asked a lot, and that is exactly the reason why you have to show initiative. It does not matter if it’s a job or a test shoot with a photographer. You have to bring commitment when planning your shoot, working on your book, doing your homework, meeting friends and engaging on social media. Test shoots and photo shoots will be done alongside with photographers and makeup artists in order to build your portfolio. They are unpaid and all people involved profit from the results.

Discipline and ambition

This actually includes a lot: regular sleep, no parties before important jobs/shoots, being on time and body care. You will also have to do a number of workouts regularly and maintain a healthy diet.

Charisma and effect

Your charisma is what makes you “unique”. People like you just for who you are. Be positive and open towards people, engage them at set with your energy and communicative manners just when the timing is right. As Buddha says: “Start each day with a smile!” This total package of measurements, looks, motivation and ambition will form the charisma of a model. Charisma will make you successful in the long run. Agencies, agents and clients will not only remember you for that beautiful smile, but also because you were friendly, sweet, easy going and were able to motivate the entire production team at the job. Charisma will always be your great help and make people love you, as well as add that extra spark to your pictures and videos. In a nutshell – your “daily business” as a professional model.

  1. Why does advertising need models?
  2. How many commercials do you see each day?

Advertisement always reinvents itself in order to stay interesting. Fashion, trends and ideas change every day. New ideas, new networks conquer the world via social networks like Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. Faster than ever! Hence, advertisement has to redefine itself because with all this amount of information it has to stand out. With every new collection, new season and technical innovations, new products will be shot, lookbooks printed, commercials produced, and campaigns done. Productions and producers need fresh faces for the presentation of creations. Even products that have been on the market for decades get a new commercial, new designs and new features each year. Therefore, as a successful model, having worked for a while now, you have to know what you are doing and be great at it. If it goes well for you, you will make it from new face to full-time professional model.

Model measurements for catwalks and fashion shows

Fashion is always something special. Fashion lives on Being special! New fashion collections are regularly released by designers worldwide, every season. Not only major international fashion designers and retail chains are working. Even small fashion labels have to constantly present new designs and styles to their customers to gain their attention. So designers and fashion have to reinvent themselves time after time to stay interesting for consumers.

Shows in Milan, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and London

At the Fashion Weeks the new masterpieces are regularly presented. In Milan, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and London. In spring, summer, autumn and winter, people are always looking for new looks and trends. Almost all designers have one thing in common, they tailor their collections for tall, slender people as mentioned in every post to similar topics. The clothes are more elegant, fabrics unfold their full effect, everything looks more exclusive and high quality! Delicate figures make clothes and their possible price more expensive. Even if not all fashion brands work in this scheme, it’s the majority of the industry.

Dimensions for fashion show

Fashion shows and fashion presentations are subject to an unwritten standard. For female models, a dress size of 34 (maximum 34/36) with a height of 177-180 (176-181) cm is considered ideal at the beginning of the career. Your hip should be under 91cm. Men’s models usually have a clothing size of 48 (max 50/52) with a height of 185-192 cm. A tip here for men’s models: At the beginning of the career you should pay attention as a male model on a younger look. If you look too masculine in your early years as a model, you’ll quickly get a chance on jobs in the fashion industry and on casting. That’s why you should always go to Castings with a shaved beard as a male model in the first years.
