Model Agency Beginners

The most people looking for a model agency are absolute beginners, of course! But what does it actually mean to be a model beginner? In principle, there are two stages in modeling, the first being the young age from 14 to 17, when you find out if you really want to do the job. Many have a wrong idea of modeling and think that they can get directly onto the cover of Vogue, Elle or Harper’s Bazaar without any work. Wrong. Modeling is a very demanding job which requires a lot of ambition, motivation, perseverance and the will to persevere at the big castings, e.g. in Milan, Paris or also in Berlin and Hamburg. Because, as a model, you are always surrounded by strong competition. Every year, 10,000 people want to be models. The really good ones apply in the top agencies, many take part in TV casting shows and a much bigger part tries it on internet platforms.

The best way is always a serious model management, because it is not about a unique TV appearance but about a sustainable career. The targeted promotion from the beginning to the end, tips before the big first job and of course also the entire administration as well as the subsequent protection of rights of use. All this is part of a good management and therefore you should also decide for one of the renowned German model agencies. For example, our agency was voted one of the top recommendations for Germany by the Bravo Girl in 2017 and directly afterwards in 2018. This gives you the best contacts to the fashion world but also to advertising. But let’s start at the very beginning.

14 to 17 years Model Portfolio Construction, school & first jobs

When you are young, you usually start at the age of 14 or 15 and send your first model application to the agency. You can see how a model application is structured in our article.

If you get feedback from an agency, congratulations! Because that is already a first big step. Top agencies receive 30, 40, up to 70, 80 applications daily. In a week, in a month, a lot of things come together. Therefore the recall of a model agency is already a first big success for you!

Recording and development for Beginners

In the beginning you compete with different new models, many fight for jobs, photo shoots and customers. But before you even get the chance, you need first experiences through photo shootings and model coachings. Because if you work for big customers, on an international level, the first job has to be right there and it must not seem that you are a total beginner. Although you honestly say that you have your first job today, it can’t look at you. That’s why it’s so important that you first build up a good model portfolio to gain your first experiences.

Construction of the Model folder

In order for your model portfolio to become more diverse and stronger, your agency will arrange your first test shootings with good fashion photographers. They help you not to get a one-page book, but to combine different routes. Sporty, high fashion, black and white, portrait, group photos, you need a strong brand to keep up with the big competition of models! That’s why the structure of your model folder is so important. Read more here about the model folder

//// Insert link to model folder

This is where those who take the job seriously and appear punctually at the test shootings, deliver good results and also satisfy photographers part with professional work. This phase is relatively long and parallel to the school you will do few jobs, because you will first get a good model folder and of course also the time flexibility to do e.g. jobs in other cities. That comes in the 2nd

Your first Jobs

Your first jobs as a model will be mainly for small photo shootings, e.g. for online shop and e-commerce but also for Instagram and Lookbooks. In these first jobs you can prove your professionalism and show that you can do more than just look good. Because at some point the first moving images are added, e.g. for small video clips. These small video clips may eventually become whole commercials, perhaps even with voice content. At the latest here you must not only deliver the good appearance but also be able, e.g. in emotions but also in acting with other people. Imagine, for example, an advertising spot for a large furniture retailer who wants to show how comfortable the new living room furnishings are in a family situation. Your job as a model is to play the young daughter, who doesn’t really want to spend an evening with her family, but because the sofa is so comfortable, she stays at home all night! So you play a happy family, act together, 3 emotions and faces have to fit perfectly on the photo and in the video camera at the same moment. These and other challenges are waiting for you as a beginner in a modeling agency. The more jobs you do, the more confident you become and the better!

Not everyone has this ambition and so many stop on this way, so that in the end maybe only 20 to 30% remain who absolutely want to become a model! What’s the matter with you? Modeling is a demanding job. Nobody becomes a star overnight and the competition is big. Only those who are willing to take on this challenge and see it as an entrepreneurial challenge will be able to survive and get to know the big world.

Model Marie Dahmen: Sexy posing, sweet smile

Marie Dahmen had already dreamed of a great career in the modeling business as a child. The young student combines everyday school life with exciting photo shoots and model jobs. With Cocaine Models since 2015, she quickly made a name for herself in the agency, especially as a strong Beauy face. We talked to the talented beauty about everyday life between school and model business.

The Model-Sedcard from Marie can be found here. Also go to all female models.

Marie Dahmen in interview

CM: You’re still quite new and haven’t gained much experience in the modeling business, where does your interest in modeling come from? What do you like about modeling?

Marie: I am very interested in the variety, diversity and beauty. I also enjoy playing different roles.

CM: Was that already in your childhood a dream to become a successful model?

Marie: Yes, even as a small child I was very interested in it and it has always been my dream job.

CM: What do your parents think of your job as a model?

Marie: My parents have mixed feelings about this. They range from pride to joy to concern.

CM: You still go to school, how do you reconcile that with modeling?

Marie: I realize that it’s not easy to reconcile the two in the long run, but I can’t say much about it yet, as I’m still very new to the business.

CM: You’re still very young, where does your self-confidence come from? How do your classmates or friends react to you modeling?

Marie: I have two brothers, through them I was forced to develop self-confidence haha. My girlfriends and my boyfriend think it’s very good that I started modeling because I’ve always talked about it and they always told me to finally apply. You wish me that this life’s dream will come true.

CM:What do you think is special about you and how do you stand out among other models?

Marie: I just really enjoy being in front of the camera and that’s the joy I radiate in the pictures. Because I am very self-confident, I also express this in the pictures.

CM: What is your big dream, what do you still want to achieve in your future?

Marie: First I want to take my Abitur and then, if possible, study in Cologne. Of course I want to go on modeling and see what the future will bring.

CM: Dear Marie, thank you for the interview!

Become a Model Frankfurt: Agency, Jobs and Travel – Questions and Answers

Frankfurter Models – Today we wanted to give all young young models in Frankfurt am Main a little insight into the work of a model agency in Frankfurt. Did you know that most jobs don’t take place in Frankfurt? But let’s start with the basic questions that arise about models. Becoming a model is quite demanding, because you already start at school. So you have to concentrate not only on good grades, but also on keeping your requirements and improving yourself.

Become a model in Frankfurt Main: How it works

Basically these question always arises first:

How old do I have to be to start modeling?

If you want to be represented and managed as a model in an international model agency like ours, you should be at least 15 years old. As a model agency, we recommend that you concentrate fully on school before you start.

Of course there are not only teenagers and teen models in the model industry, but also models with 20, 30 or even 60 years, so-called Best Agers. We also have tips for you!

Full concentration on school

Good grades and a good basic education will help you a lot later in your job. After all, the better you get, the more flights you have to make, the more punctual you have to get to hotels in new cities where you have to find your way around again and again. Sometimes you have to show some spontaneity for small advertising jobs or moderations. After the shootings or in the breaks, there are small small talks. If you then have a Magazine Shooting and can’t communicate off-set with the others who have usually seen a lot of the world, you shine less than with good general knowledge. But the more you get close to the end of your school days, the more often you will get booking requests from your model agency or cities outside Frankfurt. In addition, there are often travel days, so you are on the road for two or three days. The better your grades are, the more likely your school is to give you this freedom.

Legal requirements and labour law

The second important point in the minimum age of 15 years are the labour laws and regulations that exist in Germany. With 15 years you may already work substantially more freely, under 15 years you need special permissions, e.g. from the youth welfare department in addition, from a specialist. In an international model agency like ours you work a lot with fashion and products for a target group that is also over 16 years. Therefore international model agencies focus on models with 15, 16 years.

International jobs and customers

The third important point, if you want to work internationally, you need time to travel. Such a stay abroad usually lasts at least 45 days, but mostly even 60 days. The only time students really have time for such a long stay, including the trip, is during the summer holidays. In the summer holidays are generally rest periods, not only in Germany but also abroad. The families go on holiday and there is less production. Of course, there are fewer jobs for models. Some agencies, in Paris or also in Milan even close the agency completely for one or two weeks during this time. The high season for such a stay is then again September to December and afterwards from February to July.

In which cities are there the most jobs for models?

If you want to start your career from Frankfurt, your first focus will be on Germany and the larger cities in your area. This mainly includes Cologne but also Düsseldorf. The simple basic rule says that the more people live in a city, the more jobs, more advertising agencies, more manufacturing companies, but also more service providers and more advertising opportunities in the city center. The two factor plays the situation of the city, so there is e.g. a clear Top 10 in Germany. You can get most jobs as a model in Berlin and Hamburg. Especially in Berlin many international productions take place, in Hamburg there are many media agencies and therefore also many offers for models. Then come Munich, Cologne and just after that Frankfurt am Main, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

Alternative for Frankfurt Models: Cologne, Berlin and Frankfurt

In Frankfurt am Main, the view in the direction of Cologne and Düsseldorf is definitely the most worthwhile. But you can also do some interesting and exciting jobs in Frankfurt.

What jobs are there in Frankfurt? Of course you can do a wide range of jobs in Frankfurt. For example, you can work in the Frankfurt city centre for fashion designers and present fashion to customers from all over the world. Showrooms are closed events, usually only the fashion designers, someone from marketing and two representatives of the customer are present. You present the fashion on your body. Such a thing is called Fitting Model. Also in Frankfurt you will do many jobs in showrooms at the beginning of your modeling career. Besides, you will do your first photo shootings as a model in Frankfurt. Probably most of all for Instagram and with growing experience also for the first Frankfurt online shops. No matter if it’s about fashion, products from the technology industry or sports. The better you get and the more varied, the higher the chances are that customers will book you for jobs in Frankfurt.

With increasing experience, productions also increase in size. If you are first-class, you will also make it into the first commercials, as well as here for Opel, produced with three of our models near Frankfurt! With a production team of over 50 people, a helicopter, over ten cars that can be seen alone in the spot and a whole production team behind it.

How do I apply in a model agency in Frankfurt?

For your application in Frankfurt you don’t need much, the experienced eyes of the model agency see the requirements for models at a glance. All we need from you as a model agency are three to four photos. Important, you don’t have to book a professional photographer to improve your model portfolio. At the beginning, at the application, simple mobile phone photos are enough for us as an agency.

It is important that you can be seen in daylight. You should wear neither makeup nor styling, so that nothing distracts from you as a person. Because naturalness is also the most important thing for customers later on. When you later negotiate with customers or send the models abroad, many decisions are made on the basis of Polaroids. Polaroids are just such simple shots. Without styling, makeup, special outfit, nothing distracts from you. The background is a simple concrete wall, you are standing in front of the camera, looking into the lens, without posing and emotions. Naturalness is the A&O.

Read more about this topic here: Model Polaroids.

Do’s and Dont’s for Frankfurt Models

If you really want to become a model, you should avoid any unnatural influences beforehand. This includes simple gel nails but also going to the solarium, hair extensions, lips injections, do without everything! Because you are as beautiful as you are!

Application in a model agency

In the following you simply send your picture material to Modelagentur, some data as well as your contact, your name, place of residence but also the most important measurements as well as your body and clothing size. If a model agency is interested in you, they will get back to you as soon as possible, most likely within five days. So the process won’t take that long, if you don’t get any feedback from the model agencies, the look won’t suit you. Don’t ask any questions, because every model agency has only limited capacities and wants to take care of the models completely. If you are in an agency tomorrow, you would want full attention. If you don’t fit, you should accept this and try your luck in another agency.

How tall do I have to be as a model in Frankfurt?

The body size plays a decisive role, even if there is no completely uniform scale of measurements, the fashion world in particular focuses on a minimum body size of 175cm for women. You shouldn’t be bigger than 181cm either. This is the perfect size for pre-cut garments but also for fashion shows in Frankfurt. Meanwhile you should be at least 186 cm tall and maximum 190 cm in your application as men’s model. So you fit perfectly to the female cast, even if they wear high heels. It is important that you are not too much trained as a man, you should have a defined body, not be a muscle package.

These are the prerequisites for models who want to enter the fashion industry. Of course measurements can also deviate, models with 170 cm can also have success, but statistically it will be less. But if you still make an effort, show full commitment, who knows! You can also be more trained as a man, e.g. if you want to become a sportsman or Fitness Model. In an international agency like ours, however, you should normally meet the requirements.

Tip! Here you can find good Gyms in Frankfurt

The clothing size for women should be between 32 and 36. For Curvy Models, the sizes usually start at 42. For men, the ideal size at the beginning of a career is 48 to 52. If you want to become even more of a minimum size, check out the requirements for models here.

  • Women
    Body size for Fashion: 176 – 180cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 172 – 181cm / Germany
    Slim figure, usually long hair
  • Men
    Body size for Fashion: 186 – 190cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 184 – 194cm / Germany
    Slim or slightly sporty figure

What happens after my agency recording in Frankfurt am Main?

The following steps are very different from your age or the time you are going to spend with the school. For example, if you still have two years of school ahead of you, the first two years will focus on building your Modelbook and getting it ready for the national and international market. Your agency will arrange appointments with good photographers to help you with your portfolio. It is important for you always to pay attention to the quality, it is better to have few good photos than a mass of halfway good pictures. Because at the latest when you are in competition as a model, e.g. for jobs in other cities like Hamburg or Berlin, you need a strong portfolio where the customer can see with a few moments how good you are.

After the first year, the first jobs start slowly, it takes a while, because you first have to build up a model book and you have to have good performance in school, so that you get free, most productions, almost all of them, are during the week. If there’s one more day of travel and one day for the return journey, plus the booking is for 2 days, you’re quickly out for a week. Therefore you will work even less during school time and do smaller jobs as well as the previously mentioned showrooms in Frankfurt city centre or for Frankfurt online shops or social media channels like Instagram photo shootings.

If you’re already at the end of your school days at the agency, it’s sometimes a matter of placement abroad. As a model it should go on and on for you, from Frankfurt to Berlin, from Berlin to London Fashion Week and from London to Milan, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo. That’s exactly the plan of an international model agency and the reason why you’re playing in the professional league here. This requires special commitment, self-interest and of course a constant will to improve yourself. The job of a model is very demanding!
