Finding the right model agency is not so easy for many people when they are looking for the perfect agency or management. The search is quite simple, if you consider a few basic things. That’s why we asked our Chef Booker today to give us some practical tips on how to find the ideal model agency!

Tip number 1: Search engines

If you are looking for a model agency, search engines are your first port of call. Why exactly is that so? Agencies that take care of their models also maintain a high-quality online presence for customers. It doesn’t matter if it is the own website that represents the portfolios of the models or the social media presence, from Tik Tok to Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. For a model agency there is a lot to do in the area of marketing. In addition to the online media, there are of course live events and much more. Who maintains its Internet side correctly, that gives itself probably also in many other aspects large trouble. By the simple search for e.g. “Modelagentur Berlin”, you can find all important pages from Berlin in a fraction of a second.

Important: Pay attention to advertisements

When you start your search on such portals, always pay attention to advertisements. The first places are often booked by paid partnerships. These partners and model agencies do not make it from their own stand on page one, so they buy advertising space. Therefore, make sure that you only click on model agencies that do not have advertising labels. At Google you see for example a small symbol with the letters “AD” which stands for Advertising.

Model agencies on page 2, 3, 4

Many look at their search for the right model agency usually only on the first places. Not only are there the advertisements, on pages 2, 3 and 4 you will also find some interesting model agencies. Especially in the big cities like Munich, Berlin or Hamburg you will find good working agencies on the places further back. Especially if you don’t make it directly to one of the top agencies on the first places, you should not give up the search! Because as we will see later in chapter competition, there are perhaps only too many types that resemble your look already. Maybe that’s why you didn’t get any feedback from the modeling agency. That’s why you should always remember that on pages 2, 3, 4 you will also find interesting model agencies. In big cities like New York, or London, you can even click up to page 10 and still find good model agencies in the city.

Tip number 2: Modelagency.one and Models.com

Worldwide there are two portals where you can find the best model agencies. For one, Modelagency.one. The platform is editorially supervised and model agencies cannot buy themselves paid. But Models.com is also a good option. Here you can shop as a model agency, but you have to fulfill certain criteria. A look at both sides is worthwhile for you!

Modelagency.one lists the best model agencies worldwide in the most important cities, but also the most important core countries for models. On the portal you will find editorial articles, which means that all model agencies are checked and updated by hand. On this page you will find all important contact information from all over the world, no matter if you are looking for a good model agency in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong or Shanghai. On the respective city pages you will also find small descriptions as well as links to social media profiles, so that you can have a look at the agencies directly!

Have you ever heard of Models.com? The internet platform has been around for a long time and it checks its listed model agencies very carefully. The prerequisites for a listing are, among other things, that you represent three models that are already listed on Models.com, which means that you already have a certain reputation, a good reputation as a model agency.

Here you will find a lot of good agencies, in different cities of the world. From Amsterdam, via Los Angeles, to Shanghai.

The important thing is, to be listed here, you have to pay a lot of money. Not every model agency is willing to spend a lot of money on a link. Therefore many very good agencies are also not listed here. Do you get an excellent overview of most of the top agencies in your city? That’s why it’s worth visiting this page!

Tip number 3: Portfolios of models

After you have found several good agencies, no matter if you use the search engine or brutal ones like models.com, or modelagency.one, we recommend you to open the different model agencies in a new tab. So you have the different agencies all open in one browser. In the next step you go on each model agency into the portfolio of the women. Mostly by the term “Women” or “Main”.

By the different tabs in your browser you can now look at the individual model agencies directly in comparison. So you can judge the model agency according to several criteria.

  • How many models does the model agency look after? Elitist management with 20, or 30, or mass file with over 200?
  • Do you see photos from jobs and campaigns of brands you know?
  • If you compare all agencies, which one looks the most professional?
  • Which model agency shows the models possible natural? Who overdoes it with make up and styling, so that the model is distracted?
  • Is there New Faces, at the age of 15, or 16 years with international look?
  • Are there any experienced models with extremely many photo galleries and different settings?

Of course you don’t have to answer all these questions in a checklist or on a piece of paper. It is important to keep the questions in mind while you look at the portfolios of the different agencies. If you then compare ten or fifteen model agencies with each other, you will quickly find out which agency offers the best platform for models and perhaps in the future for you too!

Tip number 4: Competition in the model agency

As mentioned before, one of the best tips we can give you is that you won’t give up after the first cancellation! Because although you might have the perfect look and size to work as an international model in cities like Milan, Paris or New York, there are already existing models in every model agency. Of course, these have absolute priority in this respect. So if there are maybe already two or three New Faces in your vintage that have a similar look as you, e.g. 1.78 m tall and blonde long hair. Then maybe you didn’t get the chance to start in the agency because of this internal competition. You shouldn’t stick your head in the sand and give up! Stay self-confident and try the next agency right away. It is important for you that sooner or later you find a partner with whom you enjoy working together. In America, the United Kingdom and also in Germany there are many good agencies that take good care of you!

So always apply in several good agencies so that your chances of a model contract increase!

Tip number 5: News and Blog

After you have looked at the portfolios of the models, it is also worthwhile for you to have a look at the news or in the block of the model agency. Here you will find current information, e.g. about the models of the agency, but also news about new jobs, castings and campaigns of the model agency. Here you can see from the regularity of the postings how intensively the model agency takes care of its reputation, i.e. its external impact and marketing! The more informative and extensive the blog posts are, the more effort the agency makes, the more customers they will lure to the website and the more chances you have as a model for jobs! Pay attention therefore also to the interaction and the regularity.

Tip number 6: Social Media

In addition to the news on the website, you should always take a look at the social media networks. With model agencies, Instagram is of course especially worthwhile, since almost every model agency is active here! Model agencies that are particularly hard-working and also have their own YouTube channel and are active there. Anyone who knows influencers or bloggers knows that maintaining a YouTube channel is the biggest challenge. Because you don’t live from just one photo, you have to offer more complex content, often over eight or ten minutes. The videos must appear regularly, so that the followers always stay with them. The more regularly a model agency posts and the more it interacts with its fans and followers, the better.

One last tip: not all covers are the same. A few model agencies fake covers. There are also certain magazines, such as Vogue Italia, where anyone can upload their photos. Each photo will then receive a Vogue Italia logo. So taking photos in Vogue Italia is far from comparable to Vogue USA or Vogue Germany. But covers are always a very good indicator for you, has the model agency managed to inspire models with covers for itself, or does the model agency only represent models who do not yet have a fashion magazine cover?
