Instagram Tips & Tricks – Get Follower, Increase Reach, Build Community

Instagram Tips – for young start-ups, fashion designers to stylish restaurants, even for established businesses, 50 or 100 years old, Instagram is new territory for many when it comes to marketing! What does being successful on Instagram mean? How do you build a community? How do you win more followers? When do you post and how often? Questions over questions! That’s why we met with an Instagram expert whom some of you may have seen on Sat1, Pro7 or RTL, Stefan M. Czaja Punkt one of the leading experts and not only a TV guest as a speaker he speaks to 300 people about marketing and social media. If you want to know more about Instagram Marketing, you can find many blog posts on the site of his social media agency.

Today he gives us a short overview about social media marketing on Instagram. We also talk about boughtikes, is it worth it? Then we also wanted to know comma there is software he would recommend as an expert for start-ups or young fashion designers? As a low-cost digital social media manager, so to speak. Because especially at the beginning you have to pay attention to every euro as a datap! So let’s come to our expert’s tip for your Instagram Marketing & Community Management.

What does success mean on Instagram? Community and followers

Success on Instagram means active community. Fashion trends, outfits, travel destinations, all the beautiful photos are worth nothing if nobody is interested in them. Community management, community building and most importantly community maintenance are the cornerstones of Instagram Marketing for companies. This is no longer just about selling but about brand awareness. Brand awareness is a technical term used by advertising agencies and stands for brand awareness. As you the connection or the relationship between brand and prospective customers, customers stands in the foreground. These two groups must also be taken into account in the approach and, of course, also when it comes to creating added value for one’s followers. Through added value, this can be simple questions to learn the honest opinion of the followers or relatively simple actions such as exclusive discounts that are only available on your Instagram channel. But added value is also that you react to comments. 85% of all startups and companies ignore comments from their own community. A person has taken time for the brand. If he or she often doesn’t get a reaction, the fan will stop sooner or later. The fewer comments there are, the less motivated other users are to comment on the content. The constant interaction between the channel, that is you as a boss, social media manager and the audience is the central tool for success on Instagram.

Community care

Even the first 100 fans are important when it comes to the construction. Because the first 100 followers are the first 100 brand advocates. They don’t have to be convinced anymore, they’re already there. Just as important are the first 1000 followers, a goal where many will now of course say, what only 1000 fans? Maybe I can kidnap you and we can do a little example. Just ten years ago, when Instagram and the big world of social media didn’t exist, a young fashion designer had to distribute flyers, make phone calls to buyers, get press placements in magazines, all almost impossible for a young designer! Especially the placement in media, in fashion magazines, is not possible without sufficient financial means. Social media has changed this, you can reach up to 1,000 fans from your own circle with one photo or video. Without a phone call, without distributing a flyer, without an appointment with a buyer to possibly be included in the new collection. You can reach 1000 people, who like me anyway, from your own means, almost free of charge. Marketing has never been so effective! That’s why the community is so important and that’s why the first 100 as well as the first 1000 fans are so important for you!

When I visit companies as a consultant I often hear that their own social media manager is dissatisfied because they only have 8,000 fans, much better would be 80,000 fans. Why and be satisfied? Who was already happy with 100 and also happy with 1000 fans, reacts differently, likes his community more, Inter acts more, brings more positive image. You should always keep the high goals but you should also be happy with what you have achieved and make it clear to your community by being present, interacting with people and demanding their honest opinion.

Interaction and software

For many startups, a dedicated social media manager who takes three or four hours a day to look at other channels, observe trends, likes to give comments, is far too expensive. Giving and commenting onikes on other channels on a daily basis would of course be too time-consuming in addition to the important tasks of new customer acquisition, accounting and general management. Much because Tabs but also many large companies therefore rely on social media software.

The interaction on one’s own channel, with one’s own photos and videos as well as direct news are thus done by oneself. All interaction on other channels, i.e. likening and commenting on other photos and videos, is handled by the software. Maybe we can come back to a practical example later how much social media software helps in our daily work and how much time it saves!

visual language and harmony

The second aspect is that the image content becomes more creative and varied due to the increased motivation. Often it is only details that make the difference but these details have a big impact on the long run. So before you think about a concept or a strategy, you need to find your own visual language. But as a social media manager I can only recommend to look for inspiration on other channels, if you don’t have to deal daily with bringing creativity into photos. Inspiration can of course be found directly on Instagram!

Find inspiration on other Instagram channels

Many will say now, is nevertheless clear! But from my experience I know that many companies, especially if they haven’t done anything in the field of social media marketing yet, spend many days and weeks with the conception. In the end, it might have taken an hour on Instagram to look at competing offers or completely different offers, e.g. just successful influencers.

  • What photos work?
  • What picture language works?
  • Is it rather the portrait or rather the whole body?
  • Are there many details in the image or does the photo focus on a specific subject?

My ultimate Instagram tip, for channel building but also for further support, save images in Instagram! Many do not use this function, but it is quite simple. You can save your own photos directly as inspiration in Instagram, you can even create different folders. For example, you can separate by photos of the team, photos of the product, photos of the lifestyle, photos of novelties, photos of the fair, …

To be able to save images, simply click on the icon below the image. Then go to the photo or video and your saved content. If you are fast, you can then directly select a folder where the photo should be saved. The photos are a constant source of inspiration, for oneself but also for employees or freelancers. Another small instagram tip from everyday life, with a large archive of inspiration one also has good ideas available at moments when one is less creative. For example, if you’re at a Fashion Week just before the first fashion show, you usually don’t have much time to think about creative concepts for Instagram. With a look into the stored photos, you have a lot of ideas and perhaps find a way to directly transform an idea for the current situation.

As I said, in practice many companies are busy for days and weeks thinking about what pictures should look like. It’s much faster with a glance at Instagram and Blogger and companies that are already making it successful. Here you save a lot of time and money as a startup. You can then focus your creativity again on your new fashion collection or, of course, on other areas of setting up a company.

But the A&O for Instagram are beautiful photos and a harmonious style of the Instagram feed.

Beautiful photos are important on Instagram – your own style

The ultimate tip, beautiful photos! Not everyone thinks about it, in many practical examples, we then see as consultants photos with a lot of text, preferably scattered in ten lines, with five different motifs, for example in the lottery. The next photo is dark, showing a lot of products. The next photo is a Selfie. No picture style, no line, no picture language. Recognition is so important for companies. Let’s just look at the basic practice, each company has its own colour. Each company has its own typeface, each company has its own concept. People need this recognition, not only to give us an advantage as a company, they get used to a certain look and never want to see it again because they like it. If we change this look too often, the fee sings sour cream and possibly the follower jumps off.

For Instagram you must always be clear that you need a visual language and you must not be too profound or give too much information. Why is that? On Instagram you have only a few moments in the feed but also with the stories. The next photo, the next video is only a swipe away. Information must therefore be clear, precise and very accurate. When you take your pictures make sure that

  • You have a consistent style, consistent coloring
  • Pictures focus on one subject, avoid too many details
  • Don’t use fonts or descriptions in image
  • Light, friendly photos are successful, dark, emotionless photos not
  • Sexy always goes!

Filter? Not everything is colorful

Where we just talked about bright and friendly photos and their success on Instagram, here’s the next Instagram tip! Do not use filters. Filters make the photos different, creative, colorful, old but also too much. Instagram is usually about authentic everyday life, not about advertising. Photos don’t need a lot of post-processing, they need creative ideas. I don’t need filters right from the start.

A little tip, corrections are possible. My recommendation:

  • brightness + 8 %
  • Heat + 8 %
  • Color – 8% for cooler, slightly desaturated images and + 8% for colorful images

This slight image correction makes a photo a little brighter, a little friendlier and more likeable, but is not at all comparable with post-processing or filters. This is merely a matter of a slight correction of the values.

Camera or Smartphone? The right equipment for Instagram

One of the absolute favorite questions of companies and firms, but also of start-ups and young entrepreneurs, you need a professional camera for instagram?

Anyone who has a modern smartphone of the last few months knows how far camera technology has come. From time-lapse video to photos with different sharpness straight lines, you can conjure up any photo or video on your smartphone today. The camera technology is so sophisticated and small that I now hide extremely good devices in the smartphones. For social media management nowadays you don’t really need a reflex camera anymore, a good smartphone Günter absolutely. You have killed two birds with one stone because you have not only all social media networks always with you but also a good camera. Not only can you pre-produce social media content for Instagram, you can even give it live, e.g. on Instagram TV. Situations are captured much faster because less technology has to be prepared. In addition, you don’t have to carry a large, heavy camera and its batteries. For me, the smartphone clearly wins in comparison!

portrait or square? The right format for photos

Surface is everything! No matter if it is the advertising poster in the city centre or the photo in Instagram feed. When you take pictures, make sure you don’t use your phone in a landscape heart position, but in a portrait position. Instagram gives you a lot more space. For example, if you publish a photo or video in landscape format, you have only a third of the space you could have in portrait format. Therefore, as a small but practical instagram tip, make sure that all your photos and videos are taken in portrait mode, i.e. in portrait format!

More followers? How to build your Instagram Community

Now we come to $10,000,000 question! How do I get more followers? How do I get them very quickly? How do I get them guaranteed? There is never a guarantee!

The community are individual people. Every person has his or her own thoughts, ideas, needs and desires. Social media campaigns can never be guaranteed to be planned. Just think of virality, the subject everyone’s talking about. Can we make a viral video, too? If social media management were that simple, each channel would probably have a billion fans, each video would have a billion views. But it’s not like that. In the competition there are also always competitors with comma, there are the traditional companies, new creative, in addition there are the numerous bloggers who publish content completely free of charge, every day. They also have the added advantage that they are private individuals and not companies “that just want to make money”.

My tips for Instagram:

  • Community Building as discussed above
  • Honest community care and communication with followers
  • Creative content with uniform visual language
  • regular publications, preferably daily
  • Increase reach through paid postings

There are two ways to generate range of coverage. Organic range and paid range. Organic range is the range you get through the algorithm within your own community.

  • The algorithm is influenced by various parameters, e.g. the posting period, when something is published and how many competing offers there are?
  • What is the number of first interactions in the first seconds? How does the interaction develop within the next minutes?

Organic reach thus refers to the people you reach, solely through the effect of the posting. In addition there is still the paid range, advertisements. Because by organic range one creates usually only ten to 15% of the own followers. So if you have 10000 people in front, you usually have 1000 to 1500 people. Through paid reach you can increase this amount of people. Paid range then goes by views, i.e. by the amount of contributions seen. Paid reach is good because organic growth alone would not reach so many people. What a pity, because if on average every 200th person orders a product that interacts with a posting, it would be very practical to reach even more people. That’s why companies advertise.

In principle it is always about organic growth and the organic Betreuung.de not only growth is important but on the regular customers! Through good texts and the involvement of the fans, e.g. through challenges, the own community remains active.

Smart Texts and Instagram Challenges

Smart and ingenious lyrics are definitely short! On Instagram nobody wants to read long, it’s about photos, videos, fast and short entertainment. Texts should therefore always be short and contain impulses for users. Impulses like Call-to-Action, references to our actual offer but also impulses like questions that demand real experiences from users. Questions are a very effective tool, e.g. very simple, “Would you wear it?” The to “what color was your dress at prom?”.

But smart texts aren’t just descriptive or ask questions, you should always remember to mention other brands or people or mark them directly on Instagram. This will give you positive image transfer. For example, if the photo shows a Fanta that is often drunk by young target groups, it is worth mentioning Fanta in the description. Image Transfer. The same goes for the social media stars, of course, if a certain piece of clothing is worn by someone, this person should also be mentioned and marked. This not only ensures that the respective person is informed of the new posting and can therefore react immediately with a like or a comment, which in turn increases the first interaction, which in turn raises the own posting in the algorithm. This also ensures that the posting is also made accessible to parts of the target group of the other person. On the one hand infeed, because there you see the mentions and markings in which the respective account itself was marked, on the other hand a part is also sent out to the target group, as far as parts of it interact with the photo or the video.

Number three is call to action. Who hasn’t heard of anything correct yet, for this one briefly explained.

Call-to-action in the post and stories

Karl zu Action is one of the central tools in online marketing. Corto Action means a direct reference to our respective target, this can be e.g. a product in the online shop, the registration in the newsletter or new fans for our channel. Depending on the white we actively in our descriptions indicate what we want to achieve. e.g.

  • Get 10% discount in our online shop, click here
  • Subscribe to newsletter now, tomorrow the new feature will come!
  • Follow us now on Instagram!

Age is active call to action, call-to-action. For the completeness of the process a link is needed. Unfortunately, you cannot place a link in Instagram Postings, but you can indicate here that the link is in the biography. Users will not only be prompted to click the link, but also to visit your Instagram channel. In the stories it’s already different, here you can place direct links and the full rock can visit the link by simply swyping upwards. Whether online shop or newsletter registration, direct vall to action.

  • Swipe up for 10% discount

Use Instagram Stories

Recommendation marketing is a big topic. Influenza in particular shows how effectively one can achieve sales by evaluating or describing products. The more personal the insights, the more authentic, the more likely the willingness to buy increases Point Instagram Stories are an excellent tool to give personal insights. Of course, the bigger the company you have planned, the bigger the stories. But the big advantage is, they disappear after 24 hours and you can publish several a day. Instagram Stories are produced very quickly and most of them have probably made a few themselves or even do some every day. The big advantage is that they are subject to a less strict construct such as postings in the instagram feed. Here the feed has to look harmonious at the end, the visual language has to be right, … with Instagram Stories it’s all much easier! Here, one does not have to be so creative, as a super simple example, the breakfast table would suffice with a delicious buffet. Afterwards we go to the office, have a coffee and have a look at some collection items. Later we go to the customer appointment and a photo of the cappuccino Togo is taken quickly, afterwards we tell in a short video, that this is now going to a great customer, on whom we are very much looking forward. Small intimate stories that permanently accompany the user.

Brand awareness is a big topic, which means brand awareness. Instagram Stories are an excellent Tulum to constantly send small messages.

Use hash tags selectively

When do hashtags actually make sense? That’s a really good question. Hashtags could now be explained in great detail and philosophized about for a long time, but in the end it’s all about using them as purposefully as possible. Instagram Tip 1 on Hashtags, does not use hashtags that are intended for building. Such always suggest follow me, then I follow you. If you press like on my picture, I press for a like on your picture. Why isn’t this working? We talk all the time about community and interaction, fans reacting to new photos, new videos and not spirit accounts interacting and never doing anything again. This text motivates others, new or even social bots, to interact with your channel. Real fans aren’t there. Tip number 2 for Hashtags, focus on very specific terms.

Instead of 20 hashtags, we focus on our core product and our image. Both components get 3 exact, matching hashtags

  • Three general hash tags like #Beauty, #Eyeliner, #Makeup
  • 3 special hashtags for the image #Contour, #Makeuplover, #Eyeshadows

The goal is to reach the top positions point best of course always place 1, as in Google!

heat map Positioning in online marketing

We all know the search engine Google, the most important platform when it comes to questions on the Internet. Where can I find something? What does something mean? What does something stand for? Where can I find more information about something? The golden brisk in online marketing is number one. The closer you are to this position, the more often you are clicked. Whether on Google or instagram. Here one sees once very beautifully on the basis of the largest search machine of the world on what the views of the user focus, green frequently, yellow very frequently and red almost exclusively.

Buy a follower? Follow for your channel

In fact, there are very many who buy followers. We already had bloggers who had written to us and on closer analysis, out of 250,000 there were a maximum of 20,000 real people. Even large companies work with such funds, buy themselves over the years 10,000, 100,000 fans added. For example, you can see such things easily and without social media software by means of comments. Who has 200 000 followers but only two comments, there can be something wrong.

Buying Follower is quite easy, you can find a lot of offers on the internet. 10.000 fans for 20 $, international from India to the Philippines, up to qualitative 10.000 fans for 300 $, from the German-speaking countries. Ultimately, however, probably no real persons but Social Media Bots.

These accounts will never interact. On the other hand, just to explain, many visitors do not analyze Instagram channels. They just look in a hurry, 100,000 fans, many like that, I’m in. So the medal has two sides. What’s best for you, you have to weigh.

Thank you very much for the detailed discussion. For all our readers who want to start their own business, with their own start-up, fashion design or in the food sector, valuable tips. Thanks for your time!

Questions and Answers

What is instagram for a platform?

As a social network, Instagram is a platform where users can interact with each other. Most popular at the moment are photos in Feed and Instagram stories. The war is usually used daily or two, three times a week. Stories can be made several times a day, they are only available 24 hours a day. Other users respond to these postings and stories. This even leads to small conversations, e.g. in the comments. The more interaction the better! Many users also send direct messages, which are private messages from user to user.

On Instagram you can decide for yourself whether you want to keep your account private, so that only confirmed users have access to photos and videos, or whether the account is publicly accessible. The default setting is of course public. On Instagram, users are particularly concerned with briefly distracting themselves in everyday life. At the breakfast table, while waiting for the subway, small breaks during work, of course also in the evening, for example, when waiting for the date or for friends.

Users typically open Instagram’s app six to eight times a day. This speaks for a very high level of interaction. Small, short content, so-called snack content, is best received by Instagram users. Photos, stories with a length of 10 to 15 seconds or also videos with approx. 10 to 15 seconds length.

In 2010, Instagram started with just 13 employees, today there are thousands worldwide. Especially since the acquisition of Facebook, Instagram has evolved. From Ads to IG TV.

Is Instagram the same as Facebook?

Instagram and Facebook differ in many respects, but are also similar. The biggest difference lies in the target audience, the target audience of Instagram is much greater than comparison to Facebook. Facebook now serves almost all age groups, most of whom are between 20 and 50 years old. On Instagram, as described, the target group is significantly younger, usually the users are between 15 and 30 years old. Another big difference lies in the use of media. On Facebook names of all kinds shared by the content, articles on other websites, as well as events but also news. In Instagram, everything focuses on news, comma images and video material, as well as small postings from everyday life, the so-called stories.

Instagram is also faster-paced and is mostly accessed from mobile devices, via App. Facebook, on the other hand, is also used by many as a communication tool from their desktop PC and notebook. What’s the matter with you? Because you can!

We don’t even need to talk about advertising in TV channels or placements in other magazines. Today, thanks to Instagram, but also social networks such as Facebook, YouTube and tiktok everyone can constantly post anything new. Wonderful new world!

What is Instagram Marketing?

Instagram Marketing deals with all the peculiarities and features that the social network Instagram brings with it. As Instagram Agentur concepts and strategies are developed with which companies know, for example, how to proceed step by step with Instagram. Especially when the work is divided among several employees, it is important to have structure and planning.

If you are planning your own Instagram Marketing, you should also create structure and planning. What do I start with? Where am I going? All this I have to keep in mind. This concept, this strategy is pursued day by day. Based on the experiences and learnings you gain every day, you can gradually optimize your Instagram Marketing. The big goal in Instagram Marketing is reach. The more range a startup gets, the more information it can send. The community is therefore a central component of Instagram Marketing. Another central component for many companies and online shops is advertising on Instagram. Because, how can you make money on Instagram? Of course just as everywhere, through the sale of products and services. Advertisements help to reach additional people in addition to organic traffic, i.e. reach that can be generated without advertisements.

What is range instagram?

Reach on instagram corresponds to the amount of followers who have seen a posting. Two factors are distinguished within the range.

Simple range, the so-called views, correspond to the amount of ads that our posting had. A person can get our posting displayed several times. A new view is generated with each new display. In contrast to this is the unique range, so-called unique views. Only individual persons are counted here. It does not matter whether a single person is shown the posting several times or not.

Both factors are important in advertising. If you remember classic commercials, you know that here you often see an advertising film, that you rather remember the brand, you buy the product in the online shop or in the supermarket. The same applies to reach, the more often a person sees the brand or the product, the more likely they are to decide to buy it. When considering mere reach, e.g. when launching a product, the focus is more on unique views, so that the advertising agency can calculate how many people have been reached.

What are Instagram Ads?

Instagram Ads are ads that are displayed within the social network. Ads look like normal postings or stories, they only have a small hint to “sponsored post”. Instagram ads are very effective, as are ads on other social networks. Especially because the target groups can be determined so precisely, according to geographical view, for example all people in Berlin, as well as according to gender, e.g. only the women in Berlin but also things like the old and the interests play in. A certain coat or an expensive leather jacket can only be played off to a certain group of people who can most probably afford the expensive leather jacket and who already have similar interests, e.g. similar brands and products.

How much does advertising cost on Instagram?

The price for advertising on Instagram is not fixed. Depending on the current booking situation of the competition, number of people online, many factors are involved. In a rough rule of thumb, however, one can say that the prices per view can be between 5 cents and 5 €. Depending on how well the ad was made. That’s why many people trust us as a social media agency when it comes to campaign management. Even advertising campaigns on Instagram tend to go in the direction of € 4 to € 15. When it takes 100 views to create a purchase, the costs explode quickly. However, in collaboration with the social media agency, he manages to push prices below 1 €, which can quickly make good profits and earn money on Instagram.

How to make money with Instagram?

There are two ways to earn money on Instagram. One way is the classic sale of products. As described above, it is then a matter of building up your own community, within the group new products can then be presented.

You can besides arose in the social networks a completely new line of business, influencer marketing! Young, hard-working bloggers, who gradually won more fans, today reach millions of people and are the new stars, the social stars! As an influencer you can earn really good money, if you want to know how much you earn on Instagram you can calculate the costs and prices at Influencer Fee: Instagram calculate price. Influenza earn their money either with paid postings, which are postings that are paid directly or with affiliate marketing. Afilliate marketing is a classic from online marketing. You get sales commission. If, for example, an influencer posts a new expensive leather jacket, the link is clicked by 100 people, 40 people buy the leather jacket and the influenza receives a €10 commission for each jacket, it is €400 for this posting.

Advertising Agency: Brand, Design, Text, SEO, Online Shop – Advisor & Tips

Advertising agency – In New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Hong Kong many enterprises are on the search for an advertising agency. Whether full service or sub-disciplines, such as brand building, corporate design, advertising copy, search engine marketing and public relations, marketing has become complex. New strategies are also being added, for example for social media and influencer marketing. What does an advertising agency do? Our overview in XXXL format with everything you need to know about advertising agencies for your own start-up or as a medium-sized company – the free advertising agency guide:

What exactly does an advertising agency actually do?

The advertising agency definition on Wikipedia summarizes: “An advertising agency is a service enterprise, which takes over the consultation, conception, planning, organization and realization of advertising and other communication measures for […] client”. – Full service.

The exact services of an advertising agency are less known to many. Does an advertising agency only ensure that a certain product becomes known? Does the advertising agency take on much deeper tasks? Who assigns a Full service advertising agency, which assigns a professional, who argues with the entire range mark and marketing. The actual producer, the actual company, can fully concentrate on day-to-day business. Everything about their products or services is of course also influenced by the advertising agency. Just think of market research and new product development. But before we come to such a complex area as product development from market research, for example from reporting from social networks, we take a look at the very basic tasks of an advertising agency.

Corperate Design – Design and Recognition

Anyone who thinks of the big golden M immediately knows where he is at home in the fast food sector. Anyone who sees a star on a car knows immediately which brand it is. Corporate design starts with something small and non-complex like a logo and ends with precise guidelines for large companies and corporations. These even regulate how the logo is to be affixed to a particular make of car, with exact distances in millimetres to the door, wheel or window. Corporate Design deals with the visual red thread of your company. The colour plays an important role here, as do the shapes: round elements, pointed or very straight. All of this will then prevail throughout the entire media portfolio. From an image brochure for customers to a promotional clip for YouTube, as soon as our fans see our brand, they know who is meant. The faster this identification and perception is possible, the greater the brand awareness can become. Just think of the bustling shopping street in the city centre: the faster you can identify a particular fashion store from the jungle of fashion stores, the faster you will run towards it.

Corporate Design is not only concerned with the wishes and ideas of the customer, but also with the final customers and consumers. So how can you design your brand in such a way that your desired target group finds it appealing and attractive?

All these questions are clarified, conceived and developed by an advertising agency. From the logo to the image brochure, from the website to the web shop, even the car fleet is branded. Recognition ensures that our customers have quick access to us, but also quickly storm into our stores or online shops.

Content Marketing – Content with added value

Speaking of attracting visitors, the area of content marketing in particular has become extremely popular in recent years. Content Marketing works with texts in different facets and variations.

Content marketing can be the placement in a prestigious medium. For example, we can buy a placement in an article in a well-known magazine. This article then discusses a topic that is right for our company. If, for example, you are a real estate agency and have vacant apartments in the Berlin area, but are also looking for new properties, it would be worth buying an article in a magazine about real estate agents in Berlin. As soon as someone wants to give up their apartment, rent it out or sell it, they search the Internet for a good real estate agent in Berlin. Of course, you immediately look for reviews and recommendations and then probably discover our article in the trade magazine.

By this recommendation marketing, in combination with content marketing, we reach a fast and high level of trust with the users and thus the chance increases that you as a real estate agent get the free apartment and not the competition.

Content marketing, however, also extends to parts of search engine optimization, we will deal with this aspect in more detail later in search engine marketing. Search engine marketing deals with various areas of optimization for search engines, but also with analysis and monitoring.

Communication – advertising copy and PR

Advertising texts, one of the supreme disciplines of any advertising agency. Every idea can be packaged in thousands of words: the countless advantages, the differences to the competition, the small details that make the product special. Ultimately, however, in advertising communication you only have a few moments to transport messages. In order to use these moments perfectly, you need advertising texts that are short and concise, yet as informative as possible. But that is not enough, advertising texts also need added value for the ultimate consumer. Why should I change? Why should I bother to click on the online shop? Why would I go downtown? Advertising agencies will find the perfect answer to these questions. A coherent formulation, which is then adopted for the further advertising concept.

The media used ultimately form from this. This communication concept ultimately leads to the Guideline, which all employees, agencies and freelancers must adhere to. Of course, the concept also contains other aspects, such as the company’s dos and don’ts or formulations outside certain standards that require approval. By means of the guideline or the communication concept all other media are designed in their formulation, from the image brochure for the own company up to the flyer, and of course also larger advertisements and campaigns.

Outdoor advertising naturally also plays an important role for many large corporations and companies. No matter whether it’s the placements on the way to work or on the way back home: from the food company to fashion to technology & automotive, there is a lot of competition in outdoor advertising. Unlike on the Internet, the space is not always available and advertisements cannot be exchanged every second. Outdoor advertising therefore requires a lot of preparatory work, organisation and planning in order to reach the consumer effectively. Here, too, the advertising texts must be very short and concise. Usually only two or three words, in combination with the visual language, which should convince the consumer.

All this work has only one purpose, to promote sales in business. Regardless of whether it is the point of sale in stationary retail or the point of sale as a digital marketplace, your own or a third-party online shop. As you can see, there are various and, above all, very diverse marketing opportunities. An experienced advertising agency helps with the selection of the media, but also with the formulation of the right texts. An overview of the areas of application:

  • Communication concept
  • advertising texts and PR
  • brochures and flyers
  • Adverts and campaigns
  • Outdoor advertising and posters
  • Direct Marketing and Mailing
  • Sales promotion and POS

Brand – structure and presentation

Co-design, text and presentation ultimately lead to a major strategic goal, the development of one’s own brand. How do we present ourselves to customers? How do we present ourselves to our own employees? How should other competitors think of us? Brand building is a very complex and psychological topic. It is often small aspects that can make a brand known.

Example of brand development and brand image – Take a look at the name of our agency as a best practice example. The name Cocaine Models can and is sometimes controversial. At the same time, the name ensures that the agency is a topic of conversation in the right circles. The daring title of the name also conveys a certain philosophy of the agency, the young, the new, the rebellious. Of course all for the image only, in the background the agency is exhibited for high fashion customers as well as for advertising customers and promises extreme professionalism. The proximity to haute couture brands and international brands also sharpens the brand profile. The online presence focuses on young people and at first glance suggests to customers that there are tomorrow’s model newcomers here.

Regular events in an extremely high-quality setting as well as fashion shows and model castings ensure constant interaction, not only via digital media, but also live. In addition, representative work was quickly agreed with renowned agencies in mega-cities such as New York, London and Tokyo. This overall mix ensures that young talents feel very comfortable with us, as they have the chance of an international career, and at the same time customers see that we find the best talents in Germany through these targeted measures. An overall mix, which can be read over many pages in the planning, but, as you can see here, can also be described in short form.

Each brand image is individual!

Every brand image is individual! Advertising agencies are trained to find out the peculiarities of companies and to work out philosophies in such a way that they can also be reproduced in the shortest form.

Let’s find your brand core and let’s develop a strategy together with a three-, five- or ten-year vision!

Brands and branding at a glance:

  • Brand / competition analysis
  • Development of identity
  • Brand architecture

  • Naming

POS Material – Equip business premises

The furnishing of business premises is definitely one of our favourite disciplines! Interior design, feel-good rooms, sales areas and, of course, how do we keep the customer in the store? But not only the point of sale is important, but also the media distributed within the business premises. Beginning with the shop window decoration, where you can rely on props as well as work very well with print, up to the checkout area and the reference to one or the other small take-away article.

Changing designs with changing campaigns and seasons, the installation of monitors and screens for moving images, in the area of POS material for business premises is much possible. It doesn’t always have to be the dusty brochure!

Advertising agencies are partly specialized to get involved in such ideas, to deliver creative concepts, how to stand out in the crowd! Especially in the shopping streets, which there are in every big city, the competition is big. In particular, fashion companies there are link to link ranked, like a chain. Where do I shop? The decision often only takes a few seconds. As we have already discussed before with the topic Corporate Design, it is firstly about the quick recognition of the brand and secondly again about the added value for our consumers! Maybe we have glasses and hats to match the current summer weather. Our media point directly to colors, cheerfulness and vacation. The perfect occasion to take a short break in the middle of the shopping mile! This is how effective POS marketing works in combination with business equipment, business premises and media.

Print advertising material – sales promotion information

Print advertising has always been important. Of course you can discuss the importance of a business card up and down. Ultimately, however, the point is to ensure that the business card, i.e. the contact, remains present. A name that’s only spoken is easy to forget. The business card remains on the desk. Just as with the business card, it is of course the same with other print media. Do you remember the catalogues from the 80s, 90s? The catalogue had permanent presence in the living rooms of families and households. Every now and then they rummaged in it and every now and then something was ordered. That’s exactly how it works today!

In the mailbox you discover a lot of advertising, 90% is not important for us, but sometimes we discover something that we pick up. The classic: the pizza card from the pizza baker around the corner. The pizza arrives fresh and hot, maybe you even get a few percent discount as a loyal regular customer. Continue with supermarket brochures, which are popular with many people. In the USA, couponing, collecting vouchers or combining them to get even bigger savings offers, has even become a real folk sport.

Although the world is becoming increasingly digital, print media retain their impact. From the business card, mentioned at the beginning, which remains on the desk, to the sales brochure in which the most important products are listed so that a sales representative or salesperson can present them immediately to the customer, to large posters, city lights and outdoor advertising.

Of course, we always recommend an individual mix of print media for your own business stationery. The car dealership needs brochures, fashion companies need large posters and sales representatives need the classic business card.

Tip: Think about the environment when printing

From our experience as a successful advertising agency we have very often noticed that large quantities are often ordered, therefore safety first! Particularly in the print sector, the costs for unit prices are falling enormously to high volumes. While the small hairdresser orders 1,000 pieces for 500 €, the automotive group orders 1,000,000 pieces for 5,000 €. The problem is that more than half of all printed media ends up in the warehouse and ends up in the garbage. A great waste of energy, from the loss of the trees, the production with energy, the manpower used and the inks in the print shop to the delivery to the passing on.

Therefore, when placing your final order, always think a little bit about the environment and ask yourself the question: do we really need one million pieces or are 100,000 pieces enough?

Production – Photographic and video material for advertising

The production of photo and video material for the print media, but of course also for all online and digital media, is one of the major core elements of advertising agencies. Here it depends on the close cooperation with many freelancers. It starts with the organization, including the photo studio, the photographer, a videographer, possibly the assistant, one or more make-up artists, stylists for props and outfits… many workers, who have to be organized together at one appointment.

In order for this tour de force to work at all, a lot of experience in planning and organizing photo shootings is required. The processes must be exactly right, a concept must be available in advance that immediately makes sense to every team member. The customer, i.e. you, must have given your okay to this advertising concept and all team members must be briefed in detail with a complete moodboard, i.e. a paper in which all scenes are represented pictorially, up to the timing and final callsheet. In the callsheet you define which people are present at the production date, how to best reach them and the times and of course all information for the assistant, from the driver for airport and hotel transfers to the camera assistant. Here is an overview of the most important parameters:

  • Shooting concept or campaign concept
  • moodboard with scenes images
  • Callsheet with contact addresses of all team members and time control file
  • Preliminary coordination and organization between photographer, videographer, technician, photo studio, make-up artist, stylist, models,…

Advertising and product photographer

Advertising and product photographers have a demanding job. Since we have to do very often with the material and also very frequently customers with us inquire whether we can support with the switching to first-class photographers, we have for this a separate range! Read more about the topic here:

Image processing for media

The post-editing in photography makes up a large part of the first class. We work in particular with photographers who work for international young brands, because they have the most up-to-date image for the zeitgeist, and with those photographers who also frequently cooperate with magazines, because they focus in particular on high-end postproduction. In the area of Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop no one can fool them so quickly. Of course, many photographers also use Capture One. But no matter what the software’s name is for the photographers, we can get you to the best in retouching.

In the image editing process, you only use the Lightroom program once you’ve heard it. Here, all photos are transferred from the camera and released for selection in large quantities, but the colors are also corrected once in a while. This results in the pre-selection or selection for the customer, which can then be used to decide on the final photo motifs. As soon as you, the customer, have made your decision as to which photos will ultimately be used for the campaign, these photos will be retouched in detail. For the retouch, the post-processing of the photos, programs like Adobe Photoshop or Capture One are used. Here the details are worked on, from the skin to individual strands of hair and of course dust on the floor. The supreme discipline is skin, of course. The image must not appear unnatural and ultimately post-processing must never look like post-processing. The best photographers edit their photos so that most would assume that they were never reworked. Here lies the great art of advertising and product photography!

SEM – Search engine marketing

Search engine marketing is nowadays one of the central means for sales promotion. In the digital age almost all information flows go via search engines, from simple questions to complex formulations. Companies that deal with search engine optimization for online shops and websites are the experts for rankings in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing or Yandex. Of course, Google is the absolute market leader on most continents. However, there are also various new search engines that offer new approaches, for example through ecological concepts. No matter how, in the field of search engine marketing you need an expert.

Our agency has already successfully brought over 50 clients to page one in over 20 countries around the world. Not only on page one, many of the keywords, which are search terms of the users, have also made it to number one, in the national as well as in the English-speaking area. Search engine marketing is so efficient because nobody goes to the city centres for new products anymore, first of all they search online. No matter whether they are digital marketplaces or the online shop. Not only products, but also services are increasingly called up online these days.

  • Which nearby massage parlours are recommended?
  • Where to find the nearest dealership for luxury brands?
  • What is the best shampoo?
  • Ladies T-Shirt Trends 2020
  • WLAN Berlin

Search queries are very different, but they are interesting and relevant for every industry, because a large part of the competition takes place in the digital market today. This cross-media mix, i.e. the spread across different media, has become extremely important for companies. Search engine optimization also relies on scattering. Let’s take a quick look at the topic of search engine optimization.

SEM / SEO – Search engine optimization

Search engine optimization initially deals fundamentally with the placement of websites and online shops in the popular search engines all around Google, Bing or Yahoo. The higher a website is placed, the more clicks it receives. The goal for any search engine company is to reach number one. But why is place one so important? Let’s take a look at a heatmap from the market research, it shows the search engine Google and the views of the users after a search query. It is clear to see that the largest presence always has its place at the top left. Because here all users get caught with their eyes, the advertisements are also placed in this prominent place. The closer your website or online shop comes to this point, the more clicks you are likely to get and the more sales you can make. Here you can see the views again clearly in the heat map:

How to get to page one on Google?

To reach page one, you first have to look at the competition. Is there a lot of competition or not? If, for example, we want to do search engine optimization in the area of real estate, apartments, insurance or financial services, we need correspondingly high capital for the implementation of the goals. It is already easier when it comes to more specific terms, for example the “lamp shop in Hamburg”. Here are a few examples of relatively difficult projects in search engine optimization and also a few simpler ones.

First a look at rather difficult keywords:

  • Hotel New York
  • short vacation Las Vegas
  • Car dealership Paris
  • Restaurant Berlin

In addition to these hard to come by keywords, there are also simpler ones, for example local topics or niche topics:

  • Lamp specialist shop in Hamburg
  • Short-Holiday Neuschwanstein Castle Bavaria
  • test drive Paris
  • Vegan Restaurant Recommendations Berlin

In this little example you can see that the more exact the terms become, the easier search engine optimization will probably be. Whereby ‘simple’ in the context of search engine optimization does not necessarily mean that it is not complicated. It is only relatively less expensive. Ultimately, however, targeted search engine optimization always remains an ongoing project and not a one-off setup, as long as it is a medium-sized and large company.

So far we were only in the area of content, of course there are even more aspects in search engine optimization, for example the page structure, but it would go too deep into detail. More important is the additional OnPage optimization. OnPage refers to all changes and measures that are made on your own website or in your online shop.

But there is more to search engine optimization than just OnPage optimization.

OnPage and OffPage optimization (backlinks)

As described, the OnPage optimization deals with a call of the own Internet page. The OffPage optimization then revolves around all measures outside the own online project. A large and central part of this is the generation of backlinks. Backlinks are links from other sites to our project.

Backlinks simply described:

  • Best Practice Real Estate – the central topic for our clients: House and apartment to buy or rent
  • We as advertising agency provide for the reader many topic-relevant sides with increase in value, which it does not find somewhere else
  • Example article: Kitchen trends 2020
  • The article will rise over weeks and months always higher in the placement
  • A larger living magazine investigates at some point to the topic kitchen trends of the coming yearly
  • The editor takes over two or three ideas and links our website
  • As an advertising agency we also buy a backlink in an online blog
  • By the cross-reference in the living magazine a further Blog on us became attentive and links for the third time the kitchen trends

The result of our backlink strategy or content and backlink strategy looks like this:

  • Organically, the article reached page one after five weeks and tended to stay there on place eight or nine
  • With the constant cross references our article rose step by step and now occupies place one

How do kitchen trends and houses fit together? In search engine optimization, you don’t just take up your rigid subject area, but also horizontally related topics. For example, when we talk about selling or buying a house, we should also talk about land in this context, i.e. garden, driveway and garage. But we should also report on the inner life of the house, from the kitchen to the living room, bathroom, children’s room, and of course family life, everything about electricity comparison, insurance comparison, but also tips for your own home such as formulating YouTube videos. A thousand ideas! One goal: sales promotion.

Questions about search engine optimization? Contact

Our internal experts ensure international placements, in several languages and in several countries. No matter whether national project or international, we help you in all areas. With reference projects that speak for our quality.

SEM / SEA – Search engine analysis

After the search engine optimization we want to have a short look at the search engine analysis. The search engine analysis deals with the behaviour of users on our own website. In addition, the search engine analysis also considers the effects of our search engine optimization. Have we risen or fallen in the rankings? How can I improve my ranking on Google? With exact key figures you can draw conclusions from the reporting and monitoring of the search engine.

Social Media – Marketing on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

Modern, modern, social media marketing! Anyone who is a brand nowadays is of course also active in the social networks. But it is no longer just prestige that attracts companies to social networks, but increasingly also sales strength. Social networks have developed into the central communication channel of our society. No matter how far you are from each other, scattered across continents or even just in two different rooms, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram dominate our daily lives. Therefore, having a clear presence in social networks is a central means for many companies to win new customers. As an advertising agency, social media marketing therefore plays an increasingly central role in the marketing context. Social networks are particularly popular as a communication channel for companies with young target groups.

Development of networks and advertisements

Social networks are also constantly evolving. Facebook used to be a timeline with a connected messenger service. Meanwhile Facebook is a huge universe of groups, different interests, information pages, companies and of course billions of individuals. Facebook enables companies and firms to place targeted advertisements to selected target groups. Advertisements have extremely low wastage, they hit exactly the people our advertisement is supposed to hit. No matter whether our target group is between 19 and 20 years old or between 35 and 40 years old, male or female, with interests or with fewer hobbies. There are local, regional and also city related advertisements as well as live broadcasts for events. Thanks to the Campaign Manager, you can bring products and services to the right audience in the most extreme way. Instagram has also changed: while in the past it was relatively difficult for advertisers to monitor campaigns, i.e. clearly evaluate the successes, Instagram now also has the option of placing links. For example, you can specifically advertise online shop products that are also specifically linked. Subsequently, the conversion rate of visitors to a website to customers can be read off precisely and the success or failure of the campaign can be assessed.

However, with billions of users, social media has also evolved in other facets, not only in advertising. Individual users have turned out to be so creative that they have gathered more and more fans behind them. Today, their communities are made up of millions of people, and the technical term for these special users is Influencer.

Influencer Marketing

About Influencer Marketing we already wrote a lot in our Social Media Blog! Influencer marketing deals with two central points:

  • Permanent presence and mention in the target group
  • In optimal case, direct sales promotion

Many companies have high expectations of influencer marketing. They understand influencer marketing, i.e. the cooperation with people in public life, as an advertisement: if I invest 500 €, I get 1,000 € out. Wrong thinking. Influencer marketing is more comparable to TV advertising, it ensures a regular presence within the target group and thus anchoring in the minds. If people are then looking for certain products and have received several recommendations from one or more of their favourite people in the social media in advance, you will remember our product and will therefore be more likely to choose the known or recommended product in the shop or online shop. This concept is called recommendation marketing.

Recommendation marketing is the core of influencer marketing. People who talk about us make the brand relevant. The more positive the statements about the brand are, the more likely users are to be willing to access this product. It is important not to place a product once, but over a regular period of time. Because unique advertisement goes up in smoke, no matter whether print, digital advertisement or even a flyer insert in the magazine. It is important that the brand is always present and thus taken into account in every purchase decision. Learn more about the topic here:

Webdesign – Responsive design for website and online shop

In former times internet pages were built statically with HTML. A little later the separation of structure and design came in HTML and CSS. The CSS file is global and contains all commands for the design, for example:

  • Font type and size
  • background colors or images
  • Color of lines and tables
  • Distance to next element

HTML contains all structural commands. The best known are Header and Footer. The header usually contains the menu and the footer the further information.

Webdesign is therefore concerned with the basic structure of Internet sites and online shops as well as their design. However, the design should not only be visually appealing, but also lead to sales. For this there will be special banners or collages and photomontages.

Content Management Systems like WordPress and TYPO3

Today, however, the design of Internet pages comprises even more aspects, while earlier systems were statically structured as described, today’s Internet pages and shops are structured on the basis of a content management system. This content management system, as well as HTML and CSS, separates structure and design, i.e. the code of the website and the content that is displayed. Simply explained, all contents are stored in a large Excel table. Depending on which page a user calls, the contents of a line are retrieved. This row contains several values distributed over the individual columns. This includes for example the author, the publication date, the associated categories, linked images and media, the content of the article and much more. Thus, a website and an online shop today are built according to the following principle:

  • HTML for the structure and placement of the elements
  • CSS for the design and all visual commands
  • SQL as a database for dynamically generated content

This is how modern content management systems such as WordPress and Typo3 are built, they belong to the absolute basis of every good advertising agency.

Responsive Design for iPhone, Samsung and Co

With the increasing diversification of end devices, web designers have to get used to more and more different formats. That’s why web design today is usually much less creative than it was ten years ago. Ten years ago there were relatively uniform image formats, each screen has approximately the same resolution. At some point notebooks, high definition monitors, and later mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets were added. Of course not to be forgotten in any modern household: the internet-capable 4k TV set, on which people also like to surf. All these different formats must be taken into account when designing websites and online shops. One of the most important end devices that is defined nowadays is:

  • Smartphones – Mobile first!
  • Notebooks and Tablets
  • Computers and Monitors
  • 4k TV screens

As you can see from our website, it should be defined for all end devices. However, not only for the respective end devices, but also for the individual manufacturers and model types. Thus the iPhone 7 differs fundamentally from the iPhone 10. At the same time, models continue to differ, although they are coming onto the market at the same time. Ultimately, the right scaling, graphic design and preparation of the content must be found for every screen resolution. This optimization in usability is the daily bread for good advertising agencies.

Webshop / Online Shop – Your digital marketplace

Digital distribution has been gaining in importance for years. An end is not in sight and the annual growth figures prove the trend. More and more retailers are turning to their own online shop, not just the typical fashion companies or DIY stores. Also more and more smaller companies are naturally attracted in the area of online shopping. The antique dealer around the corner or the hairdresser, who will now offer his products under his own brand in the online shop in addition to Amazon.

Due to the previously mentioned innovations in Web 2.0, in particular the dynamic compilation of content by content management systems, online shops can be produced in great variety today. From a minimal design for exclusive and luxurious products to a large online shop with 10,000 products and more. We, too, have gathered some expertise, from online food retailers to sports fashion manufacturers. Online shops are subject to the same principles as websites. Especially the web design and of course the responsive design for all end devices plays an important role, as does search engine marketing. Every single product should be designed according to the criteria of search engine optimization. As can be statistically proven, the trend for online trading is clearly upwards.

Statistics online trading and growth

As you can see, there is still a lot of scope in the area of e-commerce. From the automobile trade to building materials, wholesale markets and food retailers, but also for fashion companies, Internet providers or travel providers, it is worth considering setting up your own e-commerce.

Statistics: E-Commerce turnover in Germany in 2015 and a forecast until 2020 (in billions of US dollars) | Statista
More statistics can be found at Statista.

Today, comparison portals ensure that many people do without their own Internet presence. There are many examples from everyday life, be it food suppliers whose orders are entered via large platforms and who then deliver dinner, no matter whether pizza or Asian directly to the front door, to the provider of holiday apartments on platforms such as Airbnb. It is worthwhile to place your own e-commerce in connection with search engine marketing. This saves you costs for advertising, e.g. on portals or search engines, and you do not have to pay any sales commission or agency fee to the respective portal for successful sales. Therefore, the investment in an e-commerce model is definitely worthwhile in the long run.

The Model Book: Become a Model with Tips & Insights!

The Model Book: Become a Model – Handwritten over many months, with detailed research, simple steps and many insider tips for models! Everything about “modeling” and “becoming a model”. Maybe the new standard work. In THE MODEL BOOK you will learn in different chapters, step by step, one after the other, the entire advertising industry and its special features. As a model, especially as a young model, you have to pay attention to many details at the beginning of your career. What do you mean, you don’t know? Who accepts the wrong jobs, does not find the right agency or builds up his buck in the wrong direction, can quickly build up a bigger career. Models also have only a few years to reach the important steps. The better prepared you are as New Face for this time, the easier it will be for you to gain a foothold in the industry and earn money as a model. In the Model Book you will therefore learn chapter by chapter and step by step how to prepare yourself for the start of your modeling career.

The Model Book: Overview of models

In the first chapter you will learn all about the indispensable mental strengths of a model. What requirements do you have to meet, quite apart from the often perfect measurements, in order to convince as a model at photo shootings and advertising video shootings?

Self-confidence and organization: The A&O for models

For you, the most important thing here is your own self-confidence, four personal initiatives and self-organisation. As a model, you will be sent on journeys at an early age. Sei is at the age of 15 years in the next big city, by plane from Frankfurt to Hamburg or just a few months and years later across Europe and the world. As a model, especially in the high fashion world and in skin couture, the international path is always open. If you take your chances early enough and I prepare perfectly for them myself, you can go far. Quite different from television, real top models are less about the story, drama and self-production. For models it’s about absolute willpower and belief in yourself (yourself!). As you will learn in the next chapters of the book, as a model you will have to face many exams! Absolute trust is an absolute priority for your modeling agent and your modeling agency.

The perfect model agency for New Faces

Mother agencies, model agencies, fashion agents, boutique agencies and bookers – What?!

Before it goes to the big topic of model castings, the first showrooms and jobs, the book deals with the search for the perfect agency. Each model agency has its own portfolio and clientele. Often model agencies are very specialized in a certain area (advertising, high fashion, etc.). Also the size of agencies is different. There are some Modelbookers who hardly know anybody, but who have the best contacts and only work with 5-15 models. There are small agencies, large agencies with hundreds of employees and huge international model agencies such as IMG or ELITE.

In general, you can distinguish model agencies like this: There are international agencies, national agencies and regional model agencies. The more international a model agency is, the stricter are the requirements for your measurements, but also the higher are the requirements to be accepted as a model by this model agency (experience, pictures, etc.). With national agencies, advertising (supermarkets, insurance companies, etc.) is very often the issue, here it is not too important to have a perfect figure, with perfect proportions and exact body size. The measures in national markets therefore differ from those of the international standard. For models who work in regional areas, the dimensions count even less. This is often about smaller jobs and smaller fairs (hostess). As an international high fashion model, you naturally want to join the big brands, but of course you have to prepare yourself perfectly!

Serious model agencies: agency search and model application

In order to find the best agency for you and your requirements, you will learn in the book what a perfect model agency application looks like and how to find the best model agency for you! Many questions are also answered here, for example, whether you need a lot of photo material for your application The simple answer is: No, you just need Polaroids. The Model Scouts in agencies have a very trained view and can recognize by their experience of many years, already by simple Polaroids whether you have potential for the agency or not. Polaroids are super simple photos with the smartphone, in daylight. That’s it. If you want to know how to make perfect Polaroids for your application, read more here: Become a model. For your application you don’t need a long cover letter or to describe how motivated you are! There’s just a little bit of key information. These are usually your name, your place of residence, your contact details and three to four photos. You also write down your measurements: your body size, hips, waist, bottom and shoe size.

Your model folder: The best photos for castings & jobs

Once you have found the perfect model agency for you, you can start with the first test shootings with photographers! Of course your model agency will help you a lot to get only the best photographers. Your agency will also see to it that you get a wide range of material for your model portfolio. Many make the mistake of focusing purely on “fashion photos”. Especially when there’s no agency in the background to advise you as a model. My tip: As a model you should always make sure that your model portfolio is as multi-faceted as possible. Not every customer can directly imagine what one can make of you as a guy. The photos help the customer to make his decision. The more extensive your photo portfolio is in the model folder, the more likely it is that customers will be able to make bookings.

Someday your book will be so full, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Which photo do I put in the folder, which one not? With professional models, the folder is so strong at some point that they are booked more and more often directly. Direct bookings are very good because you don’t have to attend a casting and are not in a pre-selection. You don’t have to keep days off (“Option”), you will be booked directly by the customer for an appointment!

Test shootings with photographers: build up model portfolio and win jobs

So that you can build up your model portfolio perfectly, you’ll also learn in the book how to get your own test shoots (also called TFP shoots in Germany) from photographers. As a modeling agent, I have to deal with test shootings for our models on a daily basis, so here are a few valuable tips on how you should ideally write to photographers. What’s the matter with you? With the right cover letter, your chances of getting good test shoots will increase. There are some little tricks I’ll tell you in the book. In principle, it can be said that you should briefly deal with the photographer instead of “just” writing to him or her. You should also create a suitable moodboard. The more interesting the shooting is for the photographer of your choice, the more time-saving the shooting is, the higher is your chance for the test shooting! So take a good look at what the photographer has already done and what not.

You shouldn’t do too much with the test shoot, though. If I post a new photographer on Facebook and Instagram every day, your market value may drop quickly. Why should a big customer still pay a lot of money if “every” photographer is allowed to photograph you for free? With a professional modeling agency behind you, you will of course get direct tips and the best contacts so that you are as exclusive as possible!

If you take care of yourself and his portfolio, you should make sure that you want the photographer to expand your portfolio. If you already have five photo series with “Fashion”, maybe you should try something new! To help you do this, you’ll get all the tips you need to write the perfect letter to photographers.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: Welcome to the Model World

Daily business. We did it! You have prepared yourself well for being a model, written a good application, found a serious agency, built up and expanded your model portfolio, you get the first castings and voila: The first jobs! The tasks are then very extensive and varied. Unlike normal office life, you don’t have to deal with the same tasks every day. You won’t be working every day either. Sometimes you have free time, sometimes you will travel, sometimes you are already one day earlier on site for the fitting. In between, many young models study, so you’ll soon have a full-time job! Especially when you go abroad.

First you will start your career with small jobs for online shootings, you will work on showrooms, maybe do some online shops and get your first commercials. When you’re ready, you’ll earn enough money to get to professional photographers and to bring your model portfolio to an even higher level with new photo series from top photographers! With new photos you will get better jobs again. At some point it will be time and if your model portfolio is full enough, your agency can also suggest you for abroad in its partner agencies. So even as a young model you can quickly get to the international metropolises, Milan, Paris and New York. Many models now also go to Asia, Shanghai and Hong Kong. But some also go to large production facilities such as Istanbul. But the Big Four remain the dream of all models: London, Paris, Milan and New York.

After the job: healthy life and beauty

A model’s job is really exhausting! So there is another chapter that deals only with how you eat healthily and how you live healthily. You will also get great beauty tips on how to take care of yourself, your skin and your hair even during strenuous jobs and many days of travel. You have many shootings, many appointments and often don’t find the time to cook something fresh for yourself. Then you have to go on to the next shooting and maybe you still have overtime. After eleven hours of shooting and “smiling”, you are absolutely knocked out back to the hotel. You’ll find the best tips on how to keep fit anyway in the book! The book not only shows you how to become a model and what you will experience as a model, you also get practical tips for the time after the jobs.

After you can keep yourself fit in the hard everyday life of a model and eat a healthy diet, we go one step further: Networking! When you’re out and about at fashion shows or photo shoots, there are often people with a taste for fashion. Therefore it is good and important if you know a little about the absolute basics. Small talk is always important! Whether at the Fashion Week or in your model agency. Therefore, an entire chapter is devoted to the theme of fashion. Where does fashion come from, why does it actually exist? Is fashion just clothes or is fashion more? How do trends influence us? Who sets trends? It also deals with the two important parts of fashion: haute couture and pret-a-porter. Both fashion styles are very important for designers, as well as for models and the entire advertising industry and production behind fashion.

Fashion changes at any time. That’s why the Fashion Week in the fashion metropolises doesn’t just take place once a year. In Paris, Milan and New York there are more often big fashion events! “Spring/Summer”, “Autumn/Winter”, “Prefall”, “Fashion Week Mens”, and so on. New collections of fashion designers are constantly being presented. Meanwhile, backstage before, during and after the shows, you’ll be coming back to fashion again and again. So you know what it’s like to be a model in haute couture and pret-a-porter.
show the book in the chapter about trends and fashions!

Modeling abroad: Perfect dimensions, hard work and diligence

Now you have learned everything to make it in Germany as a model! For the best of the best it goes on now, abroad! Here you will get to know the big model world. At first quite small, with other models in a large model WG. Later, when you have convinced the first agencies of yourself and are booked again for the following season, also get to know new agencies and your schedule gets fuller and fuller, you have done it. Now you can get to know the world, travel and meet interesting people on jobs every day. This is the dream of all young models. Everybody wants to go to the big media circus when they say “I want to be a top model!”

The way there is long and as described in chapter 1, success is mainly connected with the mental power of a model. You have to be true to yourself, you have to believe in yourself! Not just for a few weeks, but for years. Even the biggest top models in the world and supermodels of Victoria’s Secret shows have taken a few years to really succeed and become famous. They started very early, were partly discovered very early by scouts and worked their way up for years, first beside school, then full time, to the “superstars” they are today for many.

The Model Book for everyone: The Model Book

Not every model will follow the path of high fashion and international advertising. The book also gives models on national markets a very informative insight, so that you as a “commercial” model can also take a lot of important things with you. You will learn a lot about the agency search, how to set up and expand your modelbook, how to find the perfect photographers, what jobs to expect and what opportunities you have to make a career as a model! I wrote the book for several months and met interesting people for it, as well as fashion photographer Oliver Rudolph. Part of the work was also created in collaboration with Michelle Hamacher. I thank you very much and look forward to further cooperation! With this book we give young, new models a realistic insight into the fashion industry and wish each one of you much success and the very best for your individual way!

Book Recommendations from Models

Agency recommendations

In the new edition you will not only find all topics but also more than fifty recommendations for model agencies in Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne/Düsseldorf and Munich.

Author: Stephan M. Czaja, owner and model agent at CM

After many publications about media, THE MODEL BOOK is my first work for models. It’s about being a model, but it’s also about your media coverage. Self-marketing takes up a large part, including the correct, first handling of media. In the model agency many questions reach us daily. The book is intended to give young models and new faces a good and optimal start, with good agencies and good jobs.

Your first model application: Your first step to modeling

Have you decided to become a model or would you like to give your model career more seriousness and work more professionally? Then the first step is to find the right agency. You already have an appointment at an agency? Read how to prepare for your interview here!

Become a model – Application and interview

If you want to apply to us, you will find everything you need to know about the topic here:

Why do you need a model agency for modeling?

An agency is very important for a model, because it supports and protects you as a model. She helps you find photographers and jobs. No matter if you are booked as a model for shootings or catwalks, the agency will show you in the best light. The bookers know how to present yourself optimally with your book. As “New Face” you will be supported by your agency in setting up your book and your setcard. One very important point: an agency protects you from dubious customers and dubious job enquiries. Usually dubious customers already shy away when they learn that a model is represented by an agency. This is particularly important for an international modeling career, because models abroad are often underpaid and exploited. A reputable model agency ensures that you do not work unpaid overtime, that you do not take dubious pictures of yourself, that you are adequately paid and accommodated. In addition, the agency will determine in advance whether the job is of high quality and whether you can be associated with the customer as a model without your image suffering as a result. At best, every job should prove your model qualities and positively underline your image.

How do you find the best model agency as a newcomer?

There are now plenty of model agencies. But how do I even find a suitable model agency? And when is a modeling agency serious? Your search starts on the Internet. It’s convenient if your agency is within your radius. That’s why you should simply enter “Model agency + your city” in Google and browse the results. Since it is generally important for a model to be represented in the larger “Mode & Medien-Städten” in Germany, you should search for “Modelagenturen + Hamburg/ Berlin/ München/ Köln/ Düsseldorf/ Frankfurt”. You’ll get some results. The next hurdle: Now how do you know which of the agencies are even serious? One possibility is that there are already ready-made model agency lists on the Internet that are constantly updated, for example the Vogue list. With this you can assume that only well-known and serious agencies are listed. However, as a dedicated model you should take a closer look at your selected agencies yourself before applying.

Criteria for serious model agencies in Germany

In order to find out for yourself which agency is serious, you should go through different steps.

  • Step 1: The Agency’s website. Very important: A serious model agency has a serious website. A simple, clear design, a high quality board and information about the agency team.
  • Step 2: The level of the models. Take a look at the model board and determine the level of the models yourself. The following criteria will help you here: Do the models have optimal model dimensions and an impressive face? Are the pictures of the models high quality?
  • Step 3: Does the agency work with serious clients? You can easily research this on the agency’s website or on the agency’s social media platforms. In general, you can easily measure the seriousness of your customers according to their degree of recognition. Also the “likes” on Facebook or “Follwer” on Instagram show how well known and popular a model agency is.
  • Step 4: Search the Internet for reports from other models or clients of the agency. Note that not every comment is true. In order to get a better picture of the agency you should read enough testimonials and reviews of the agency. To say it in addition is: See these evaluations rather than references, make you nevertheless own picture.

Find your perfect model agency – Summary:

Recognize reputable model agencies:

  • serious customers (for example, well-known brands through advertising)
  • serious models (appearance, dimensions)
  • fixed admission criteria
  • serious website
  • Transparency regarding the agency team (for example through website)

Agency is not serious if:

  • No/untransparent website (no naming of agency headquarters or agency teams)
  • simple agency admission without preconditions and interview
  • no cooperation with serious customers
  • Admission fees will be charged

The model application

You have now found a suitable, reputable model agency and would like to apply as a model. What’s the best way to apply? Nowadays, applications are usually sent by e-mail, which means that you can find an e-mail address and a contact person to whom you can send your application via the agency’s website.

What must be in your application?

Most agencies publish their admission criteria on their websites. In general, you should state your measurements in your mail, i.e. chest, waist and hip circumference. You should attach great importance to the accuracy and timeliness of your measurement data, because an agency does not like it at all if you make false statements. You’ve never taken measurements yourself? No problem. No problem.

Take and measure measurements yourself

You simply measure your measurements with a normal tape measure. If you’re unsure, get someone you can trust to help you. To determine the exact circumference of your chest, the tape measure must be placed at the widest point of the chest and pulled to tension. Important for women: If you wear a bra when measuring, pull off approx. 1 cm, for push-up bras at least 2 cm. To determine the circumference of your waist, place the tape measure at the narrowest point and pull it tight. You measure the hip circumference at the widest point of your hip or bottom. The optimal model measurements for a woman (as a guideline) are 90-60-90.

In addition to your measurements, you should include pictures in your application. You should make a selection that shows you in different facets, i.e. commercial, fashion and beauty pictures from your book as well as simple Polaroids. You don’t have a book yet and no Polaroids? No problem. No problem.

Picture selection for your model folder

Some agencies prefer models who already have a certain selection of pictures. So you should start looking for different, good photographers. The easiest way to do this is via the Internet. Do the same as your agency search, i.e. search for professional photographers in your area, check their websites, look at their pictures and search for ratings of the photographers by other models. Important: Make a conscious choice. It is of little use to you if you thoughtlessly select numerous photographers who take similar pictures of you (for example, only fashion pictures). Rather, you should choose a few photographers who take different pictures of you in different “directions”, i.e. fashion, commercial and beauty pictures. Here applies: Invest rather a little more money, so that the pictures become qualitatively high-quality and convince. Only those who invest will benefit.

Polaroids for Models – Fast, clean photos

At some agencies even simple Polaroid pictures are sufficient for the application. You can do this yourself or get support from a friend or family member. Polaroids are clean pictures that show your body and face in different facets and give the agency a first impression of you. Polaroids show you in front of a white wall, a good exposure, without make-up, in plain, tight-fitting clothes (skinny jeans or leggings & simple top or T-shirt) and with women preferably in high shoes. One picture should be taken of you in underwear, on one picture you should laugh, on the other one you should look rather expressionless into the camera. Important: No big posing! The pictures should be simple and natural.

checklist for models

  • Optimal & exact dimensions
  • Optically neat look
  • Naturalness
  • The special something (For example, strikingly beautiful eyes/lips, small features such as a tooth gap or a mothers meal, long & undyed hair, a special radiance)
  • self-conscious, present & friendly appearance

If you meet all the criteria of the model agency and the bookers find you interesting, you will be invited to a personal interview at the agency.

Model agency from 30 – Become a model at 30+ years of age

You are looking for a modeling agency from 30 years? With us and other agencies you will also find your home as a model over 30 years old. The big difference is the previous experience, have you already worked as a model and have you knowledge, references and customers to show or do you start completely new?

Modeling from 30 with previous experience

If you have already gained experience as a model at photo shoots, commercials or fashion shows, it is of course much easier for you to join the model agency. Many agencies, including ourselves, are looking for good models from the age of 30. On the way from the first catwalk at the age of 16 or 17, not everyone stays in a model agency but studies, works in a media agency or becomes a doctor or physician in a completely different way. So not everyone stays the same, which is why it is so important for model agencies to find good models from the age of 30. Because in advertising we need you! For new fashion collections, presentations at fashion shows, but also photo shoots for online shops, Instagram to video shoots for YouTube or TV commercials or spots for cinemas. You can already see how diverse the range of possible jobs is that you can do as a model at the age of 30.

Modeling from 30 without previous knowledge and experience

If you want to become a model at the age of 30 and have no previous experience or knowledge of the industry, it will be a bit more difficult! But this is quite normal and with young models completely the same, because of course there are substantially more models without experience who would like to realize their dream. It is therefore worthwhile for you to prepare well for this application.

What are the optimal conditions for models from 30?

The most important thing is that you have a job where you can take flexible time off. For example, if you spontaneously get a job for the next week and have to go to Paris on Tuesday, you might have to tear it down on Monday evening. Could you spontaneously take today off for next week? This is one of the first important questions, your time flexibility for job enquiries and customers.

If you can answer yes to this question, the next step is to go to your place of residence. Ideally, you should live close to your agency or potential client in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich or Düsseldorf and Cologne. This way you can be relatively flexible on the jobs and you can also be spontaneous on castings, e.g. in Berlin Mitte. If your place of residence is 3 hours away from the nearest big city, it will be relatively difficult for you to take advantage of such opportunities. This of course reduces your chances of getting a job compared to the competition.

The third important point that you must answer in advance with a yes is motivation.

  • Do you really have the ambition to concentrate on building your own model book over the months and years?
  • Would you invest time and money to independently get new photo galleries, how to improve your book?
  • Would you invest time and money to be able to go to a casting for example, you would do the same for 10 castings?
  • When a job calls abroad, would you accept it?

You have to answer all these questions and even more, because modeling in one of the big and renowned modeling agencies means full commitment in the booking case.

Model application

If you can answer all these questions with a clear yes, then we are looking forward to your model application. Send us your contact information and your photos, we are very happy. All information can be found here:

Find a Model Agency

Find the perfect model agency? That can be difficult! Ideally you should rely on ratings, recommendations and experiences from other models. Through their opinions and statements you can already learn a lot about a model agency. But before you decide on a specific model agency, the first step is the search! So let’s look for the perfect model agency!

Reputation and Website: Search and Find with Google

Pretty much everyone will start their search either on Google or on Instagram. Probably Google! Search engines are already an extremely good indicator, because they show you who is making an effort for his media appearance. Search engines like Google try hard to show you as a user only the content that might be really interesting for you. Apart from the advertisements you will usually only find the recommended model agencies at Google & Co.

Start your search regionally

Before you look for a model agency in Milan or New York, look for a good agency in Germany that can represent you for all important cities. In which city your model agency is located is not significant. Large agencies work for the entire German market. You should focus on getting into one of the best German agencies! Start your search with the keyword model agency and the name of the closest largest city with at least one million inhabitants. Exceptions may be Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, otherwise you should always orient yourself to the nearest, larger city. Then search for

  • Model Agency Berlin
  • Model agency Hamburg
  • Model agency Cologne
  • Model agency Munich

References and news on the website

On the website of every model agency you should find references, but also news. Here the agencies write about new jobs, commercials and photo shoots. If you don’t find any updates about new jobs on the agency page, this is not advantageous. Always check to see if you can find references and customers. Here you can get an idea of the customers the agency works for and thus you can find your perfect target group. In the last step, check the model board. How many models does the agency represent? Is it 500 or only 50 selected models? Every job planning and every travel planning costs time and money. The more models an agency represents, the less time it can invest in a single model. So take a look at how meaningful the portfolios are and compare different model agencies with each other. That way you can make the best impression on yourself! Let’s summarize again which points you should check on the websites of model agencies:

  • News, Blog and Job Postings
  • Customers and References
  • Number of models
  • Compare different modelboards

Rating on Google, Facebook and other portals

In the next step you can look at reviews on the different portals. Two important clues: Watch how many ratings model agencies have. Is it just two or are there 20 reviews? The more ratings, the better you can get a meaningful picture. What you should also pay attention to is the average number of stars. Is the number above 3.5 or below? If the agency has over 3.5, you can usually expect it to do a good job. When the agency creates 4 stars, you can assume that it does very good work. Individual negative comments should be checked, because model agencies often receive negative ratings from models that have not been accepted. With 50 applications that a model agency receives every day, not every model gets a feedback and therefore there are sometimes negative reviews without a real reason. Don’t let single negative reviews dissuade you from a model agency if the majority of the reviews are good. You usually get the most objective reviews from Google and Facebook. Many millions of German users are registered here and therefore the potential to have a meaningful amount of ratings is greatest. Besides the evaluation portals you should always take a look at the social networks!

Find model agency on Instagram and YouTube

Of course, model agencies are not only represented on Instagram and YouTube. Nevertheless, it is usually the most important networks for model agencies to find young models. Here you can look exactly the same as in the Blog of the agency whether the agency represents good customers, offers various jobs and strives for regular Postings.

You will find most model agencies on Instagram, because Instagram is made for model agencies! Photo, photo and sometimes a video! In any case, take a look at the social media channels of model agencies, because here you can also judge whether a model agency makes an effort or whether it does something without passion.

These were our tips to help you find your perfect modeling agency. We wish you every success!

Write to a model agency – Your perfect application looks like this

How do I correctly write a model agency? The model agency is very short, although many think that you need previous experience or professional photo shoots. In reality, you don’t need much, two photos and a few dates. Let’s have a look at what the perfect model agency looks like.

Fact: Model agencies have little time

The most important rule is keep your letter very short. Because in a renowned and good model agency, sometimes 50 to 100 applications arrive daily. If there is only one scout in the agency, he has only a few seconds for each application, besides the actual agency work. That’s why you have to score by your photo, not by a long cover letter.

Write to model agency: Contact Details and Dimensions

Your e-mail or letter should contain the following information:

  • Name and first name
  • age
  • Residence
  • E-Mail address
  • Phone number
  • body size
  • fabrication

This basic information should be written to your model agency.

References and Social Media Accounts

Additionally you can add some more information. e.g.

  • Instagram Channel URL
  • YouTube Channel URL if you have more than 5,000 followers
  • Experiences, if you already had jobs or references and customers
  • Reference Links to YouTube or Vimeo for commercials

More information should definitely not be written to your model agency. Now we come to the actually important step, your photo! That’s right, the singular, photo. You don’t need an expensive photo shoot, no professional photographer, just you and a friend or a girlfriend, gladly also your mum or dad, who takes a good photo of you in the daylight. That’s it.

Application Photo for your cover letter

As described above, if you are looking for new faces, the model scouts have little time. 50 to 100 applications reach a good model agency on average per day. This means that the model scout only has a few seconds for each application and each individual review of the application documents. In addition to scouting new faces, his work also includes making new contracts, planning the first shootings and presenting the model to the team. So what matters is your photo! In principle, your application should not contain more than a maximum of four photos, but basically one photo or two is sufficient.

  • Portraitfoto
  • full body photo

In combination with your height, clothing and age, the scout has all the important information for himself. The decision then only takes a few seconds. How can you make your photos too perfect?

Perfect Environment for Application photos

For your application photos you should definitely pay attention to daylight, here you have the best lighting conditions and also absolutely natural radiation. Light emitted by lamps does not have the natural warmth and of course the light source is directly in the room, which can also be seen in the shadows. Therefore you should always make sure in the first step that you take your photo in daylight. You should absolutely do without make-up, any styling that distracts from you and your skin, your hair, your facial features, your proportions is too much! That’s why you should completely do without make-up and styling. Clothes should not distract from you either, so you should wear black trousers and a black top as a woman or a black shirt as a man. With the shoes you should keep it the same, plain and unobtrusive. Let’s sum it up again:

  • photos in daylight
  • Good smartphone camera is enough
  • No make-up
  • No styling
  • Black trousers, black top, plain shoes

These are the most important facts for your application photos. So you have the two perfect pictures, portrait and full body. Make sure that you don’t laugh at either photo, be absolutely unemotional and just look into the camera. Like I said, nothing should distract from your person, even gestures or facial expressions. If you have both your photos, you are welcome to take a photo with a smile and a photo of the page so that you can also see yourself in the profile. That would give you four photos and the perfect basis for your model agency to write!

Model agency from 40

Become a model at the age of 40? Even at the age of 40 you can still join a model agency. However, it is a great advantage if you have already gained experience. E.g. because you already work as a make-up artist or in an advertising agency and sometimes even stood in front of the camera. If you want to professionalize yourself, do more jobs and build up your own model portfolio, then it is worth applying to a model agency.

Models over 40 years for photo shootings and advertising

There are extremely many products and accordingly many customers for 40 year old models. Whether it’s beauty products, advertising spots for real estate portals or food or even fashion online shops. The possibilities of jobs are very varied and accordingly one can also build up and establish oneself as a model at an advanced age. Especially due to the demographic change, the market for older models is getting bigger and bigger, so who prepares himself at the age of 40, so to speak, can get hold of Thomas later and win many different customers for himself.

Anyone who has already gained experience and has been active in model agencies before will of course have many advantages, precisely because of the demographic change that has just been mentioned. More and more commercials and more and more advertising campaigns are designed for an older audience or target group.

If you want to apply in our model agency, then we are looking forward to your application! Here you can find all information about the model application.

Model Johanna in Athens: Greece – modeling, living and working abroad

Going abroad as a model – a constant theme for many models, both New Comers and professionals. With a stay abroad, some plans come your way, you will be rewarded with plenty of experiences – no matter where in the world you are. Many young models are concerned about whether they can cope independently abroad, what exactly awaits them and which country or city is the right choice. Johanna von Cocaine Models is currently on the road as a model in Athens. I spoke to her about her stay abroad in the Greek capital.

Model Johanna – modeling in relaxed Athens

CM: Johanna, you are a model in Athens until the end of February, how did you get there?

I was already working here in November 2014 for one month, now my agency asked if I am available again and I came back. My agency in Cologne has put me in touch with the agency here in Athens.

CM: Why Athens of all places? What attracted you to Athens as a model?

I didn’t choose Athens directly, it turned out rather like this. But it is a beautiful city with a relaxed working atmosphere & the weather is wonderful.

CM: Would you recommend Athens as a model city?

I would recommend Athens as a model city so far away that you can get good pictures here. Most models come to Athens to take good pictures and gain experience, not to earn the big money, because the payment is rather meagre. But to make contacts and get good pictures Athens is absolutely recommendable.

Modeling Experience Athens – Preparations & Experiences

CM: How did you prepare for your trip there?

Actually one does not have to prepare oneself really great, the hotel is booked before by the agency for the model and one must actually only book his flight and fly off. It is important to plan your meals on site before your trip, as not all apartments have kitchens and you are often on the road the whole day. I always take a few plastic cans and plastic cutlery with me so that I can cook my food on the spot and take it with me during the day.

CM: What are your experiences as a model in Athens so far?

Firstly, the people in Athens are mostly very friendly. Everything is very relaxed! On the other hand, there is always work here. There are many good photographers in Athens and clients are loyal and book you back when they are satisfied with you.

CM: How would you describe the model target group in Greece, which model types are in demand?

Blond and brown-haired models are the absolute favorite here, Asian and dark-skinned models have it rather hard here. Besides, the Greeks don’t like “too skinny” girls that much. One of my friends was even cheated a few centimetres more on her hip for her sedcard.

CM: Which castings should you attend and which jobs did you get during your time in Greece?

There are castings every day for the most different jobs, there is everything. You go to castings for fashion shows, TV commercials, online shops, magazines, editorials or campaigns. Anything you can imagine. I did some shootings for online shops, for example for sunglasses or clothes, such shootings are enough for every model here, two campaigns +TV spot, web campaigns, editorial for a magazine and more.

Johanna between Castings & Jobs – Breakfast, Coffee, Castings

CM: What is your daily modeling life in Athens like?

Get up, make breakfast, then on the way to the castings or bookings get a coffee, which is super cheap here, then it goes with the metro, the bus, the trolley or on foot to the casting. There you are usually five to 10 minutes and then you go on to the next casting. Bookings, on the other hand, are more relaxed. The model has a given arrival time, as a model you are usually on time and then wait an hour for the client or the make-up artists. Then, on average, eight hours or more are worked.

CM: How did you live and how did you get it?

Each agency has its own apartments/hotels for the models, in which you are automatically accommodated. I stayed at the hotel last time, too. There you share the room with another girl and if you are lucky you will find the bathroom in the room, otherwise you have to share the bathroom in the hallway with the other hotel occupants. There is also a small kitchen where you can make yourself something to eat. Accommodation in a hotel costs 17 Euro per night and will be deducted from the money you receive. But this time I live with friends, it’s cheaper and you have more space.

CM: How did you spend your time in Athens away from modeling?

In the evenings you often go out, have fun and have a drink. Otherwise you can of course visit the Acropolis and other sights. I also spend a lot of time in the shopping streets and when I have a day off I go to the sea.

Athens – Highlights & Recommendations

CM: What are your personal Athens highlights?

The Acropolis in any case, one should go up there once, alone to enjoy the view! This is completely free of charge for European students. Another highlight are of course the new friends and the hours together. An insider tip: The spinach feta pie which you can buy here in all bakeries is great and should be plastered on every visit to Athens.

CM: What do you recommend to other models who go to Athens for a while?

Calmness! Even if you are a young model who is a little panicked for the first few days, you are never too late in Greece. Furthermore, I can only recommend a good contact to the local agency. I have seen that if you visit the agency more often and maintain a good relationship, you get a lot of help and the agency gives you some opportunities. Always take sunscreen with you, because I even got a little sunburn in February!

CM: What does the modeling industry in Athens and Greece look like?

She’s definitely big! There are many jobs, albeit for less money. Due to Greece’s financial situation, one can certainly imagine how people have to struggle with it to pay enough. Nevertheless, there is work for every willing to work! I haven’t met anyone here who hasn’t worked. Nevertheless, the market for Male Models is very narrow, because there are enough Greek boys on site.

<Johanna-Model-Sedcard-Fashion-Editorial-Commercial-Catwalk-Onlineshop-Tv-Portrait-14<

CM: Is a stay in Athens worthwhile for models?

Not necessarily to make big money, but for good pictures and a lot of experiences that really take you further. You can also earn money, but it may well be that in the end there is not so much jumping around when I look at the payment here.

CM: What did you notice positively in Athens, what rather negatively?

The friendly people are positive! Absolutely negative is chronic lateness.

CM: Are there any cultural differences that a German visitor should take into account?

One thing is very unusual: You can order coffee at the bakeries and it will be delivered to you wherever you want! this is super practical! Another big difference and for many probably a big change: Smoking is going on everywhere inside, whether at the shooting, in the restaurant, in the club or at the casting.

Johanna: “Now I’m a pro in posing”

CM: What do you take with you to Germany from your time as a model in Athens?

Many new friends and experiences. Also some pictures, which I can use for my book and fortunately also my earned money. I also take many new contacts with me, which I will certainly be able to use when I come back. One thing I can say for sure: After your stay in Athens you will be a professional in posing for online shop shootings! That’s something every model here takes with them.

Johanna-Model-Sedcard-Fashion-Editorial-Commercial-Catwalk-Onlineshop-Tv-Portrait-15

CM: For which models with what ambitions do you recommend Athens?

I think Athens is something for models with experience as well as for newcomers. Of course you should have a reasonably good book, but you don’t have to work so much to get a foothold here. You shouldn’t be shy either, because you are rather small for a model, because there are rather less fashion shows taking place here.

CM: Dear Johanna, thank you for your interview!

Modeling Abroad: Malia in Cape Town – Jobs, Castings and Models in South Africa

Going abroad as a model – a constant theme for many models, both New Comers and professionals. With a stay abroad, some plans come your way, you will be rewarded with plenty of experiences – no matter where in the world you are. Many young models are concerned about whether they can cope independently abroad, what exactly awaits them and which country or city is the right choice. Malia von Cocaine Models is currently on the road as a model in Cape Town. I talked to her about her stay abroad in the South African dream city.

Model Malia: “Cape Town was a coincidence”

CM: Malia, you’ve been modeling in South Africa for several weeks/months. What have you experienced there as a model?

Here you experience a lot – from shootings, sight seeing, surfing to shark diving. Cape Town is extremely diverse in every respect.

CM: How did you discover South Africa/ Cape Town in particular?

I’m honest, Cape Town was more of a coincidence. My friend wanted to spend a semester abroad at the university and I thought I could just come along and model there. Since we went on holiday a year ago and had an agency there, it was very easy to implement the plan then.

CM: How did you prepare for your stay in advance?

In the end you don’t have to prepare for Cape Town, the only difficult or “long” one is the work visa, so you should plan about 2-3 weeks until you have all documents together and drive to the embassy in Berlin. It’s also important what clothes you take with you. I say this quite explicitly because Cape Town does not offer good or high-quality shopping opportunities (in terms of shootings). So if you plan to test, you should bring some clothes.

Malia about the possibilities as a model in Cape Town

CM: What are your experiences in Cape Town as a model so far?

There is a lot of competition on the road, casting can be longer than you want and direct booking unfortunately doesn’t exist. The jobs are great and you have opportunities you wouldn’t have in Germany and the tests are great.

CM: From your experience: Which models are particularly in demand in South Africa?

Ü30 models with blond short hair. Also male models.

CM: What does the modeling industry in Cape Town look like?

There are extremely many agencies and in the summer (German winter) the customers make a pilgrimage to Cape Town and produce there, due to the low costs. Yes, the model fees are also about half as good as in comparison to Germany. You feel like in a German village, because there are extremely many German models/photographers/MUAs on site.

CM: What jobs have you done in Cape Town so far? How did they go off?

Sport jobs, a lot is produced there in this respect, but also TV commercials. The process is no different than in Germany, perhaps one difference: after the casting there is always a callback, i.e. a second casting. If you are taken then there is one day only for fitting and then it is only produced. The days are long because you start shooting very early (because of the light). People rarely work over lunchtime because the light is too hard and it usually doesn’t continue until the afternoon.

CM: What are your typical daily routines in South Africa as a model?

The agencies communicate via SMS and send you the casting. Then you go to the different casting studios and hope that not 100 other people are waiting for the same casting. Waiting times vary from 10 minutes to 4 hours per casting.

There are normal castings (here the waiting times are 1-4 hours) and “requested” castings (there you are specially requested, have an appointment and usually come directly to it). Requested castings are always the ones where you have the best chances, because the customer has already selected you based on his pictures and wants to see you.

CM: How do you live and how did you get your place? What do you recommend?

The agencies help or provide accommodation. But I’m not a fan of model apartments and that’s why we chose Airbnb for our own accommodation. This was not directly in Cape Town City, but only 15 minutes away, cheaper and on the beach – which I personally like better. If you are an independent person and like to organize yourself, I can only recommend such a thing. If you are perhaps unsure, you should seek the help of the agency.

Malias Cape Town Highlights

CM: What are your personal Cape Town highlights?

My highlight was one of my last test shootings with the photographer Jacques Weyers (photographed for Elle Southafrica and World of Swimsuits among others). We shot an editorial, which was very important to me personally and in which I could find myself very well. Besides, I was the only model Jacques tested with, which was like a little knighthood for me.

CM: Which model hot spots would you recommend to other models?

The Food Markets in Cape Town are amazing, and I’m also a fan of some restaurants: Kloofstreet House, Cafe Paradiso, Simply Asia, Beluga and Black Sheep. Osumo makes the best smoothies and to celebrate: Era, Tschin Tschin Rooftopbar, Shimmy Beachclub.

CM: What do you like about modeling in Cape Town? What is more problematic?

I find the locations in Cape Town fantastic. If you want to do tests, you can have extremely many settings and improve your book very much.

Another problem is that the fees are unfortunately not so good and you have to be careful about the crime in Cape Town.

CM: What does a model have to pay special attention to in South Africa? (rules, customs, differences to Germany etc.)

Cape Town is very Western/European, but yes there are townships and crime is high. In the evening when it gets dark you should not go out alone or to the beach, you should not carry too many valuables around with you, carry too expensive clothes, get involved in conversations in the street or just go with people. You should just pay attention to what’s going on around you. When you rent a car, you have to expect people to drive extremely badly and uncoordinated. We had a little accident because someone drove into our car (only fender damage) and my credit card was stolen from the machine. You just have to be aware of these things when you are there and plan to fly there. Nevertheless, you don’t have to be afraid on the spot, because if you just pay attention to these things you are safe.

Cape Town for the Model-Book – Germany for the Model-Gage

CM: What do you take with you from your stay in South Africa to Germany?

Cape Town is good for the book and for the experience, however, one simply has to say that one is “on paid vacation” there and that Plus Minus Null will return to Germany.

CM: Would you recommend South Africa, especially Cape Town, to other models? Why?

I think for Newfaces Cape Town is great, you can build your book with great photographers, especially in terms of commercials. Then I also think that Cape Town is very good for models Ü30, because the market there is very versatile and as a model you can work there very well even in old age. If you fall into this grid or simply want to gain experience abroad I can recommend Cape Town, but if you think you will make the big money there I have to say, unfortunately, stay in Germany.

CM: Dear Malia, thank you for the interview!

That’s it – Successful model casting in Cologne

Catwalk. Posing. Recall. On Sunday the big, open Cocaine Models model casting took place in Cologne. The team was highly motivated, the location casting-fairly up-behaved and the demand for model applicants enormous. Michelle has captured the formative impressions for you and summarized them briefly.

Casting start – Large rush in the Mediapark

Sunday morning 12 o’clock – the gates of our Cocaine Models agency open. Numerous model applicants have already gathered outside the door. The line at the reception is getting longer by the minute. Each applicant registers on a list and receives a number. Time passes and there is a certain tension in the air. Our Polaroid assistant Celia takes care of the Polaroid photos, which are taken before the jury’s assessment. The model applicants observe the competition or give each other the last tips for a perfect appearance. Meanwhile, our social media representative Hanna Jung is working diligently on interesting “Behind-the Szenes” shots.
First impressions count: Models in casting

The jury’s eyes wander curiously to the door of the casting room. Every new face is carefully received. The model candidates try to convince the jurors of their personality, their experiences and a short test walk. Critical glances eye every step and every movement. Our Cocaine Models jury, consisting of model-booker Regina Steinpress, model-booker Marcel Matt, photographer Oliver Rudolph and two of our agency models as guest jurors, are busy taking notes. Thanks to years of experience in the modeling business, our team always agrees quickly which candidates have a chance of being recalled.

The Recall – the second round of interviews

The number of model applicants shrinks from 54 to 25 candidates in round 2, the “recall”. The selection is difficult: Many talented young models fight for a place in the Cocaine Models Model file. In the recall, the chosen one is felt closer to the tooth, or rather to the shoe. The candidates prove themselves to the direct competition in small groups. They show their catwalk style, as well as different posing styles according to photographer’s instructions. Especially the challenge “dynamic posing” shows which of the model candidates have a solid self-confidence: A jump. A twist. YES the girls also on high heels! The view is directed towards the camera. After a short expert consultation, each model receives direct and constructive feedback.

The jury’s verdict

Congratulations: We welcome 16 new faces to our agency! Besides six new male models, 10 new female models adorn our model portfolio. We are enthusiastic and proudly welcome our new agency. SAY HELLO! After 7 pm we deserve some rest and toast to a successful casting day. To our team, to our models, to Cocaine models!

Model Booking: How do I book a model for photos and advertising?

Models are booked for different jobs under different conditions and expectations. The respective customer has certain ideas and criteria according to which he selects a model. He informs the model agency concerned of his criteria and usually sends a mood board, which tells the agency more about the context of the assignment. There are basically two options for model bookings: Either a customer has browsed the model file of the model agency concerned and already selected one or more models, which he would like to invite either to the Casting or book directly. However, it is also common to ask the model agency to select models according to the criteria and send the client a selection of models.

Prerequisites for models in commercials and commercials

In order to become a successful model in a serious model agency, a model must have different requirements. For a model agency it counts whether a model is well booked. Oaks of carcasses are regularly sorted out. A model must have a very good figure, means slim, taut, the right measurements. Of course, the optimal sizes differ more closely between male and female models. Male models can do more exercise than female models. Their main aim is to have a firm and fit body, i.e. cardio training and light muscle training are sufficient. Too much muscle and weight training makes the muscles in a female model become too wide and the assumed measurements are no longer optimal.

The optimal measurements for men and women?

Female Models: The Prerequisites

Female models should be at least 174 cm tall. Smaller models can be successful, but the chance is very small. Therefore the size is a decisive criterion for a model agency to include a model. The optimal measurements for female models are 90-60-90.

Male Models: The Prerequisites

A male model must have a slim and defined body. The minimum size is 184 cm. Especially tall men can have problems in the model industry as well as men who are too small, as they do not fit into the designer’s collections. The maximum size of a male model is 194 cm.

Character & Strength are strong attributes for advertising models

Besides the physical requirements, the mental requirements and the character of a model also count. A model has to prove strength, discipline and endurance. Jobs are often strenuous and time-consuming. A good model should not feel tired or stressed. Motivation and ambition distinguish an experienced model, the customer likes to book such models again, this is very important for a model and the model agency. Furthermore, a healthy self-confidence and the changeability of a model are decisive selection criteria. From this total package the charisma of a model is formed. A customer tries to convey his products and services to consumers through a model. This succeeds through an optimal mediation of emotions. Emotions are aroused by the charisma of a model, including facial expressions and gestures. A model must be able to slip into different roles in order to “sell” the product/service to the consumer. Authenticity and naturalness are the magic words to captivate consumers so that the customer’s concept works.

Character? That’s Chand from Stockholm!

Modeling! Job opportunities in the advertising industry: online shop, showroom and TV spots

There are many job opportunities for a model. The body is the tool of a model and therefore the capital. A model advertises a customer’s products and services. This can be done via various carrier media. A model can be booked for poster advertising, magazine editorials or covers, online presence, TV commercials or similar. On the catwalk a model presents fashion collections or beauty and styling products/services. The body is the screen for the catwalk appearance, but in the commercial area (advertising) also counts the facial expressions and gestures of the model, which leads to the sales promotion of the products/services.

Modelagenturen – Agency for photo shooting and construction of models

A serious and good model agency is very important for a model. Although a model can work without an agency, the risk of a model being exploited is enormous, especially abroad. The tasks of a model agency include the placement of good (for serious, well-known customers, a good salary) jobs. The model agency ensures that a model is not underpaid, especially abroad models are often enormously underpaid. In addition, the model agency ensures a good image of the model. A serious model agency takes a model’s uncertainties and supports the model with questions. A model can have several modeling agencies. We recommend a parent agency and a good agency in each major city, such as Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne / Düsseldorf or abroad, e.g. in London, New York, Paris or Milan. Customers all over Germany and all over the world can book a model, for example a model book Hamburg, model book Berlin or model book London.

Model Guru Lutz Marquardt about model agency and mother agency

What is the difference between a model agency and a parent agency? Model agencies are exclusively responsible for the mediation, a parent agency, on the other hand, builds models, arranges photo shoots with good photographers and later places models abroad with large and renowned agencies in Milan, Paris, London or Shanghai and New York.

Book model: prices and agency commission in Germany

The payment of a model is managed by the model agency concerned. The model agency issues an invoice for the client and negotiates the prices with him. New Faces are generally cheaper than experienced models. With the experience and the level of awareness of a model also the price of a model increases.

In Germany, the agency usually charges 20 percent commission for referrals to customers once the model has completed its job. Abroad this agency commission can vary and also amount to up to 50 percent. In addition to paying the model, the agency usually requires a so-called AP from the client.

Modeling in Frankfurt / Germany: Questions and answers

Today we wanted to give all young models in Frankfurt a little insight into the work of a model agency in Frankfurt. Did you know most jobs don’t even take place in Frankfurt! But let’s start with the basic questions about modeling. Becoming a model is quite demanding because you start at school. So you not only have to focus on good grades, but also on keeping your qualifications and improving yourself. Basically, however, the question always arises first:

How old do I have to be to start modeling?

If you want to be represented and managed as a model in an international model agency like ours, you should be at least 15 years old. As a modeling agency, we recommend that you concentrate fully on school first.

Full concentration on school

Good grades and a good basic education will help you a lot in your job later on. After all, the better you get, you have to take flights, you have to reach hotels on time, that in constantly new cities, in which you have to find your way around again and again. Sometimes you have to show some spontaneity for small advertising jobs or moderations. After the shootings or during the breaks, there are little small talks. If you have a magazine shooting and can’t talk to the others off the set, who have usually already seen a lot of the world, you shine less than with good general knowledge. But the closer you get to the end of your school time, the more often you will receive booking requests from your model agency for Berlin or cities outside of Berlin. In addition, there are often days of travel, so you will be on the road for two or three days. The better your grades, the more likely it is that your school is willing to give this freedom.

Legal requirements and labor law

The second important point in the minimum age of 15 years are the work laws and regulations that exist in Germany. With 15 years you can work much more freely, under 15 years you need special permission, e.g. from the youth welfare office but also from a specialist. In an international model agency like ours you work a lot with fashion and products for a target group that is also only over 16 years old. That’s why international modeling agencies are focusing on models aged 15, 16.

International Jobs and Clients

The third important point, if you want to work internationally, you need time to travel. Such a stay abroad usually lasts at least 45 days, but usually even 60 days. The only time students really have for such a long stay including travel are the summer holidays. During the summer holidays, however, there are general rest periods, not only in Germany but also abroad. Families go on holiday and less is produced. Of course there are then also considerably fewer jobs for models. Some agencies, in Paris or Milan, even close down the agency completely for a week or two during this time. The high season for such a stay is then again September to December and then from February to July.

In which cities are the most jobs for models?

If you want to start your career from Frankfurt, you will first focus on Germany and the larger cities near you. These include above all Cologne but also Düsseldorf. The simple basic rule says that the more people live in a city, the more jobs, more advertising agencies, more manufacturing companies but also more service providers and more advertising opportunities in the city centre there are. The location of the city plays the two factor, e.g. there is a clear Top 10 in Germany. You can get most jobs as a model in Berlin and Hamburg. Especially in Berlin there are many international productions, in Hamburg there are many media agencies and therefore also many offers for models. Then come Munich, Cologne and shortly afterwards Frankfurt am Main, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

In Frankfurt am Main, it is definitely best to look in the direction of Cologne and Düsseldorf. But you can also do some interesting and exciting jobs in Frankfurt.

What jobs are there in Frankfurt? Of course you can do a wide range of jobs in Frankfurt. For example, you can work for fashion designers in Frankfurt city centre and present fashion to customers from all over the world. Showrooms are closed events, usually only the fashion designers, someone from marketing and two representatives of the customer are present. You present fashion on the body. It’s called a showroom model. In Frankfurt you will also be doing many jobs in showrooms at the beginning of your modeling career. Besides you will do your first photo shootings as a model in Frankfurt. Probably most for Instagram and with growing experience also for the first Frankfurt online shops. No matter if it’s about fashion, products from the technology industry or sports. The better you get and the more diverse you are, the higher the chances that customers will book you for jobs in Frankfurt.

With increasing experience, the size of productions also increases. If you are first class, you will make it to the first commercials, as well as here for Opel, produced with three of our models near Frankfurt! With a production team of over 50 people, a helicopter, over ten cars that can be seen in the spot alone and a whole production team behind it. Here you can see the finished commercial of Opel.

How do I apply to a Frankfurt model agency?

You don’t need much for your application in Frankfurt, the experienced eyes of the model agency see the requirements for models at a glance. All we need from you as a model agency are three to four photos. Important, you don’t have to book a professional photographer to improve your model portfolio. At the beginning, with the application, very simple mobile phone photos are enough for us as an agency. The important thing is that you can be seen in daylight. You should not wear makeup or styling so that nothing distracts from you as a person. After all, naturalness is also the most important thing for customers later on. When you later negotiate with customers or send models abroad, many decisions are made on the basis of Polaroids. Polaroids are just such simple shots. Without styling, makeup, special outfit, nothing distracts from you. The background is a simple concrete wall, you are standing in front of the camera, looking into the lens, without posing and emotions. Naturalness is the A&O.

If you really want to become a model, you should avoid any unnatural influences in advance. In addition belong simple gel nails in addition, the course in the Solarium, hair extensions, spraying lips on, do without everything! Because you are beautiful as you are!

In the following you simply send your pictorial material to model agency, in addition a few dates as well as your contact, your name, residence in addition, the most important measures as well as your body and ready-made size. If a model agency is interested in you, they will get back to you relatively quickly, most likely within five days. So the process doesn’t take that long, if you don’t get any feedback from the modeling agencies, you didn’t like the look. Don’t ask questions because every model agency has limited capacity and wants to take care of the models completely. If you were in an agency tomorrow, you’d want all the attention. If you don’t fit, you should accept this and try your luck in another agency.

How big do I have to be as a model in Frankfurt?

Body height plays a decisive factor, even if there is no completely uniform scale of measurements, the fashion world in women in particular focuses on a minimum body height of 175cm. You should not be taller than 181cm. This is the perfect size for pre-cut garments as well as for fashion shows in Frankfurt. Meanwhile, when applying as a male model, you should be at least 185 cm tall and no more than 191 cm. So you fit perfectly to the female cast, even if they wear high heels. It is important that you are not too well trained as a man, you should have a defined body, not be a muscle pack.

These are the prerequisites for models who want to enter the fashion industry. Of course measurements can also deviate, models with 170 cm can also have success, however, it becomes purely statistically less. But if you try hard, show full commitment, who knows! You can also be more trained as a man, e.g. if you want to become a sports or fitness model. In an international agency like ours, however, you should usually meet the requirements.

The clothing size for women should be between 32 and 36. Curvy Models are usually available in sizes from 42, for men the ideal size at the beginning of their career is 48 to 52, if you want to become even more of a minimum size, then take a look at the requirements for models here.

What happens after my agency admission in Frankfurt am Main?

The following steps are very different from your age or the time you will spend at school. For example, if you still have two years of school ahead of you, the first two years will focus on building up your model portfolio and preparing it for the national and international markets. Your agency will arrange appointments with good photographers who can help you with your portfolio. It is important for you to always pay attention to the quality, it is better to have few good photos than a mass of reasonably good ones. Because at the latest when you are competing as a model, e.g. for jobs in other cities such as Hamburg or Berlin, you need a strong portfolio in which the customer recognizes how good you are with just a few moments.

After the first year it starts slowly with the first jobs, it takes a little while, because you first have to build a model book and you have to have good performance in school, so that you also get free, most productions, almost all, are during the week. If there is a day of travel and a day for the return journey, and the booking is for 2 days, you are quickly out for a week. That’s why you will work even less during your school time, first doing smaller jobs and the aforementioned showrooms in Frankfurt city centre or for Frankfurt online shops or social media channels such as Instagram photo shootings.

If you are already at the end of your schooling with the agency admission, it is sometimes already about placement abroad. As a model you should go further and further, from Frankfurt to Berlin, from Berlin to London and from London to Milan, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo. This is exactly the plan of an international model agency and the reason why you play here in the professional league. This requires special commitment, self-interest and of course a constant will to improve oneself. A model’s job is very demanding!

Prerequisites for Models in Hamburg

Maybe you live in the countryside, in a village or in a small town, or maybe in the middle of Hamburg, Altona or HafenCity. However, the same requirements apply to all of them, e.g. when it comes to body size, clothing, but also the measurements around chest, hips and waist. But the measurements are only a part of the requirements, as well as a healthy diet, body care but also pay attention to figure, hair, nails,… many details that most people don’t think about when they talk about how easy or difficult it is to become a model. Once all the basic requirements have been met, however, the model’s own character and personality are particularly important. The cooperation with the management is very important, at the beginning it is less intensive but the longer you work as a model the more intensive the cooperation becomes.

  • General good appearance and neat appearance
  • Healthy nutrition and regular sports
  • Professional collaboration with management and customers
  • Embition and commitment to the job as a model

Models & School? First castings and jobs

If, for example, you are still in school at the beginning and have two or three years ahead of you, you will do fewer jobs at the beginning. This is quite normal, since you should concentrate on school and your education! But as soon as it approaches the end of the school, you will ideally start the first international planning. If you can’t do it internationally, you can still look forward to many more jobs! Because as a student you are often tied up, between the different exams, the vacation, enjoy the leisure time! As soon as you have the time, you can travel, you can plan days of travel, you are flexible and you have a good school-leaving certificate in your pocket. For example, as a model it is important that you can express yourself well, many customers speak English, so it is very important that you have a good command of English! But there is also a bit of mathematics, for example when it comes to calculating your own travel expenses. The more successful you are as a model, the more you will invest in a photographer. Especially in Hamburg there are many good photographers. Of course, you no longer have to work with everyone. That’s why good photographers in Hamburg also cost money. But as soon as you earn money in your first jobs, you will also invest in the first photographers to improve your model portfolio!

Live Casting – A look behind the scenes

You haven’t seen a model casting live yet? Here is a small example from our Youtube Channel!

Application in a model agency as a Hamburger

If you want to apply in a model agency in Hamburg, you don’t need a professional photo shooting. All your modeling agency wants to see in Hamburg is Polaroids. Polaroids are super easy to create, all you need is a good friend, a mobile phone and daylight! You’ll also have to get the right outfit in the city centre, black trousers, a black top, black or white, plain shoes. Your underwear should be black as well. As a woman, you should also buy a bikini and high heels. If you are still new in Hamburg, then we have a few recommendations for you: Fashion Boutiques Hamburg. For your modeling agency, you then grab good daylight and a relatively simple wall. The background of your photo should be as bad as possible so that nothing distracts from you! You don’t need makeup or styling. All your modeling agency wants to see is you!

take measurements yourself: Measure hips, waist and chest

Here you see all important points on the body to take your measurements yourself. Make sure that you wear as little clothing as possible when measuring and be honest with yourself when measuring! You can find more information about minimum sizes and proportions for models here: Model Dimensions.

We hope that you have learned a little and have summarized here once again the most important articles for you on the subject Model become!

Model Coachings – runway training, acting & more

Send photos: Professional shooting or simply with your mobile phone?

In the next step you take a full body photo, a portrait and another portrait with a laugh. First in normal outfit, black jeans, black top and shoes. If you are over 16 years old, you can also send Polaroid bikinis or Polaroids in underwear. If you’re under the age of 16, you shouldn’t do this! It is important that you are seen with your whole body, once your face in the portrait and another photo has a smile. Why is laughing so important? As a model you work for many jobs in advertising. Advertising sells through friendliness, emotions that you as a model can arouse in you, better than any other! That’s why there should be a laughing portrait of you.

After the recording: Patience is a virtue – also in Hamburg!

Before you send your application to a model agency, you should definitely talk to your parents and of course you should also think about the head gasket you are going to use as a model. You want to build a professional career. This can only be achieved with the support of a management team and the network that comes with it. So you always have to be prepared that no success comes overnight. The best Youtubers took years. The greatest Hollywood actors took years. No star is born overnight. Therefore, you should always stay professional, you should take the time for your education, that is for your school, and you should give yourself and your career time. If you develop step by step, build up your model book over the first years, then do bigger and bigger jobs or even go abroad for a few months or years, that’s the right way! A serious model agency like ours supports you with professional management and accompaniment so that you develop your model portfolio perfectly and build up for the ideal market, for your requirements. If you have taken your photos for your first model application in Hamburg, all you need is your contact details and the most important measurements, as well as your body size, shoes or even the clothing size. That’s all a good modeling agency needs from you! The Model Scouts in the agency have a lot of experience and a very professional view to judge applications from Hamburg.

Media city Hamburg: Photographers, advertising agencies and publishers

Who wants to try himself as a model in Hamburg, he should already at the beginning of his career, on good contacts in the advertising and media industry set. Especially in Hamburg there is of course a lot of competition among models. The biggest media and advertising agencies are at home here, from Altona to the harbour and the city. While in other large German cities, such as Cologne or Munich, life is rather quieter. Only Berlin is comparable to Hafencity! What’s the problem? Over the decades, Hamburg has developed into an absolute media metropolis. Here are not only the big advertising agencies at home, in which you as a model naturally have excellent chances to get castings and jobs. More, even big publishers and magazines. In this article we want to tell you a bit about Hamburg castings and jobs as New Face!

Special magazines attract models automatically. No matter if it’s the High Fashion Magazine or other categories, as well as Lifestyle and Interior. For models, especially photos taken in magazines are an absolute reference. Especially in fashion magazines, of course. These photos show that the models have good contacts or a good model agency. As a model you have to pass the preselection before the shooting date. Your luck! As a model in Hamburg, the way is not far to make the leap into the magazines. Even if you travel to Hamburg as a model, you will quickly arrive at the agencies or photo studios. Mostly directly from Hamburger Bahnhof or Airport.

Advertising finances you as a model

The “most money” for you as a model lies in advertising productions – for magazines you rarely get paid. Most tracks in magazines are even created without payment. The photos are then used for their own portfolio (model, photographer, visa, etc.). However, your income comes mainly from advertising or “commercial” jobs. When we talk about the German market, in particular advertising spots, photo shoots for online shops or classic catalogues and image brochures for companies. It is not only about fashion, of course many other brands and companies also book models for your advertising. In Hamburg, for example, this includes insurance and food. Especially big chains (no matter if fashion or food) produce new tracks almost weekly in their studios or those of the photographers and production teams. In doing so, we are always looking for new models to sell the new products of the week optimally in the respective brochures. If you find your regular customers, you’ll make a good living as a model.

Jobs in Hamburg: Online Shops, Social Media & TV Advertising

When you start modeling, your first jobs are to do showrooms. Such a showroom in Hamburg is a small, internal event in which designers, marketing managers or sales staff meet with the customer to select parts of the new collection. These new fashion pieces should of course be shown to you as a model! How are the seams processed, what is the texture of the materials, how does the jeans or jacket fit? In order for the designer, sales manager or marketing manager to have a model directly on site, young models in particular are booked for this type of job. You usually work in Hamburg’s city centre, where designers meet their customers. Once you’ve gained your first experience and upgraded your model portfolio through test shootings with photographers, you’ll get your first jobs for social media shootings or online shops!

Start: Shootings, Social Media, Online Shop and Image

There are always new fashion collections or new products. Exactly, it doesn’t always have to be about fashion trends! Just look at smartphones, there is always a new iPhone or a new mobile phone from Samsung Galaxy to HTC. There are also many new models, new commercials and photo shoots in the automotive industry. Models are needed for every new brand and for every new model. Also for new seasons but also for different seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter! Each emotional set needs its individual composition of photo models, production team but also advertising agency, which creates the creative concept. There are always new jobs in Hamburg! If you work hard and also show your model agency or management that you are professional on jobs and on time, the customers are satisfied with you, then you will get your first commercials sometime!

Next Level: Jobs for commercials and TV commercials in Hamburg

The word TV is nowadays of course often equated with broadcasting, e.g. through YouTube advertising. Advertising in video format, be it the advertising film for upstream YouTube videos, the advertising film for TV and cinema or even influencer marketing with videos on YouTube, this is where you as a model have the greatest potential. Since the production of commercials by media agencies is quite complex, the productions are not only used in Germany. Unlike regional brands that use your photos in the Hamburg area, for example, such TV commercials are often broadcast throughout German-speaking countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Many commercials are also shown throughout Europe or even internationally, in America and Asia. Hamburg offers great potential for you as a model!

If you want to work as a fulltime model and professional, then you need not only jobs here but also in other cities. Therefore it is important for you as a young model to choose an international model agency that offers the best perspectives not only for Hamburg but also for Germany and for the international stage, ideally!

Sequence bookings for models in Hamburg

In a career, it is important for every entrepreneur (you are also an entrepreneur) to acquire satisfied, returning customers. If you have customers who are satisfied with you and your performance, the chance increases that you will book yourself again when there are new jobs. Especially showrooms and fashion shows bring you directly to the decision makers in the companies. If you are convinced here, you may soon be booked for an entire Lookbook campaign. Then you not only get the clothes of the customer to present them, you get a whole photo shoot with a big team, in a big studio and with great certainty also a beautiful video, which you can use afterwards for your model portfolio and his portfolio.

Model agencies in Hamburg for serious castings & jobs

There are model agencies in Hamburg, like the proverbial “sand by the sea”. In Hamburg there are not only the classic model agencies, but also many individual model bookers or agents. Their names are often not as well known as the big agencies, but they also have very good contacts in the advertising industry. They often used to work in an advertising agency themselves and then moved into the world of fashion and models. Now they have a good network to certain companies and they are placing these jobs. There are also mother agencies. Mother agencies are so to speak the biggest form of the agency, they not only represent you as a model in Germany but also try to actively bring you to their partner agencies all over the world. As a model, you can also work in the absolute top cities such as New York, London, Paris or Milan. Every model’s dream when it comes to becoming a model!

The big leap is usually only possible with one of the big agencies! They have the necessary personnel and the necessary financial means, which you need as a model, if you want to continue and for example also work abroad. This is not only about the work itself, but also about airline tickets, hotels and contracts that you make with the respective partner agencies prior to each stay abroad. From the Hamburg airport it goes off then into the whole world. USA, South Korea, Greece, France. A big risk, which is why contracts and a reputable model agency in Hamburg are also important. This ensures that everything runs smoothly for you and that you arrive safely in the new country from the very first moment.

You work abroad as a model 45-6o days

As a model you usually work 45 to 60 days abroad. The agencies take over all your investments, so that you can fully concentrate on your job. At the end of your stay the income will be deducted from the expenses and the remaining surplus will be divided among one party. As a model you get at least half of your winnings paid out. Since you had no costs, it is an incredibly great opportunity to expand your model portfolio, get to know new people and above all to make new contacts all over the world.

Reposting of agencies from Cape Town & Co.

If you are convinced of showrooms and fashion shows in Hamburg and Germany, there is a good chance that one of your customers will book you again for a larger campaign or photo shoot. It’s the same with agencies. Once you’ve worked abroad and the model agency has got to know you, appreciated your work and had good experiences with you, they’ll ask you if you don’t want to visit them next season. By working in different countries you gain a lot of experience and your model portfolio becomes more and more diverse.

The big customers and jobs are abroad!

If you go abroad as a model, you have the great chance of more campaigns and much more expensive photo material. While productions in a country like Germany are very expensive, productions in many other European countries or even in an international comparison are much cheaper. In Madrid or Barcelona you will already get much bigger information, if you should go as a model sometime to Asia, it can also be that you have a helicopter, an elephant or something else with you. These photos are of course absolutely great for your portfolio and show that you also exist in larger productions as a model and bring your performance.

Luxury in Hamburg: Models and High Fashion

Who wants to create in Hamburg the jump into the far world, can that! Hamburg is not only well-known for its numerous media, Hamburg is well-known also for its VIPs, prominent ones and its probably well-to-do inhabitants in many districts. Of course you won’t find a luxury boutique in the Schanzenviertel but in the city! Because in every city where luxury is concentrated, there are of course many satellites around the brands. These are companies that accumulate around a certain industry. In the high fashion and world of haute couture, for example, these are fashion boutiques and showrooms of the various fashion designers. Here in Hamburg they present the latest fashion of the season to their customers, directly on the model. The customer can then decide on the spot which pieces to purchase for his fashion chain.

Fashion boutique, exclusive wholesalers and showrooms

Numerous big brands are in Hamburg. Models are booked quite often by them for the new collections. If you were still like on a showroom, imagine it as a very, very small fashion show. As a model you present the new pieces of the designer. In front of you sits a selected audience, but not more than 100 people as in a fashion show, as a rule there are only a few people here. For example, they represent larger fashion houses and brands and are looking for new trends for their stores. That’s why they visit the designers, it’s about trends and novelties! Your job is the presentation and if they like a garment about you, you also present the workmanship and materials. As a model and sales talent, you’ll help the designer bring his fashion to the world!

Specially young models often work in Hamburg showrooms. With this you can earn your first living as a model and then concentrate full time on modeling. Jobs on showrooms are also an excellent exercise, as you have direct contact with the marketing department, maybe even the customer, so fashion designer himself. Here you can not only learn how to present yourself, but also how to present your customers’ products and garments convincingly and authentically. The better you become as a model and the more convincing you are with the customer, the higher is the chance of follow-up bookings.

Models & Model will be in the Harbor City

If you consistently follow your path as a model, you can build a great career as a model in Hamburg. If your career runs smoothly, you can also stay in your (!) city forever, if you like! Through your model agency you have got good contacts in Germany and customers who like to book you frequently. You’ve been abroad, you’ve expanded a folder and now you get new requests from Italy or South Africa every year. If you follow this path for years and stick to it consistently, you can manage to live from modeling and also find your home in Hamburg. The city is beautiful, not only to work but also to spend one’s life here. In the city, at the port or in the various multicultures quarter at the edge.

Become a photo model – Dream job: Popular & underestimated

Become a model: A dream of many young girls, women and men. Living in glamour and luxury, wearing expensive designer collections, visiting the most beautiful places in the world, knowing the right people and looking incredibly good. Who doesn’t want that? That can’t be hard, many suspect. With the right model agency in Berlin, Hamburg or Munich. But behind such a career is much more than just being “beautiful”: Incredibly much work, talent and finally also some “luck”. No human being is born as a model – well maybe isolated cases, but these are absolute exceptions. Basically, modeling is a full-time job that requires a lot of sweat, discipline and passion. At best, a good dose of cleverness and intelligence. Because even as a model, you’re a businesswoman or a businessman. What is basically behind the profession of a photo model?

Dream job photo model – The way to model

What is a photo model? The definition of a model

A photo model is a person who advertises products or services by using his body, i.e. visually. This can be on TV, on posters, face-to-face, in magazines, online or similar. Models are also booked for demonstrating and presenting fashion collections or beauty and styling products. For the optimal model figure, a model must exercise regularly and should pay strict attention to nutrition. Even if the body as canvas is in the foreground when modeling, gestures, facial expressions, an intensive look into the camera, posing and charisma also play an important role in a photo model. Emotions are very important for advertising, because sales promotion works through emotions. Emotions are generated by the disciplines mentioned above, such as facial expressions or gestures. A model must train hard in order to be able to implement the disciplines authentically at the push of a button. At catwalk shows, for the presentation of fashion collections, the models must also know the different running styles and present a choreography on the catwalk, as a pure photo model this is usually not necessary.

There are already small tips that help. Set up a few moods for the posing in front of every photographer shooting or before every single set. For example, there are small, very effective facial expressions, for women among others:

  1. Sink your head down. Then look up and focus the camera.
  2. Games with the lips.
  3. Similar to step 1, but then the view from (left or right) outside goes to the camera
  4. You can close your eyes and’feel’
  5. Now you can seem’tender’, look or even’lovely’
  6. Sweet looks, then smile
  7. And don’t forget: Also move your body

difference: photo model & catwalk model

In the past, a strict distinction was made between the term photo model and catwalk model (also called mannequine). Today both fall under the generic term model. Thus, a model can stand in front of the camera for advertising shoots as well as make a good figure on the catwalk for designers. Of course there are different “model types”, i.e. if a model has a good figure, a great face and a unique charisma, but is generally too small for the catwalk, then it can still work as a photo model, but is rather less booked for the catwalk.

Photo modeling agencies – serious modeling agencies

Models can work with and without photo modeling agency. A contract with a good model agency is always recommendable. First, a modeling agency will make sure that you get good jobs, the emphasis is on good! The quality of a customer and an order counts. The model agency makes sure that you only work with serious customers and presents you in the best light. Especially if a model works abroad, a model agency is important as security, because no customer can use the model by underpayment or the like. If you have questions, she supports you as a model and shows you the deficits you have to work on. In Germany, the agency usually charges 20 percent commission for referrals to customers once the model has completed its job. Abroad this agency commission can vary and also amount to up to 50 percent. In addition to paying the model, the agency usually requires a so-called AP from the client.

Become a photo model – The requirements for models

An optimized body, i.e. a slim, slightly sporty figure, is the basic requirement for a photo model and a catwalk model. A distinction is made between male and female models. While the male models are allowed to do more sports, the female models should be only slightly muscular. You should make sure that your body is taut and you are fit, really visible muscles should be avoided as much as possible, otherwise they are not flexible. Furthermore, the character and the charisma of a model is of course decisive! It is not enough just to meet the visual requirements to become a successful model. The character, the changeability, the self-confidence and the resulting charisma are immensely important to succeed in the model business in the long run. In addition, a model should have a great deal of motivation and ambition, because a model has to work on himself permanently. Jobs can be very strenuous and lengthy, but a model should not show signs of fatigue, stress or frustration. An actor’s talent is a great benefit to a model, so she can not only slip into the different roles better, but also overplay the current feelings.

Model dimensions for women and men

Of course, a distinction is also made between female and male models.

Prerequisites for Men Models

A male model should have a defined, slim body. The minimum size for a male model is 184 cm. A male model should not be larger than 194 cm in order to be flexible.

Prerequisites for Female Models

In principle, a female model should not be smaller than 174 cm to achieve real success in the modeling business. Smaller models can work as photo models, but often do not fit into the fashion collections and are not popular with designers, especially for the catwalk. The perfect model sizes for women are 90-60-90 (90 cm hip, 60 cm waist, 90 cm chest circumference.)
