Cinemas in Cologne – The best houses in town

You need another plan for your Friday night in Cologne? It is too cold outside to do anything, but also too bad to spend the evening at home. Then cinema is always a good alternative. In beautiful Cologne there is not only a considerable selection of conventional cinemas, but also some specials, such as the open-air cinema at the Kranhäuser or a car cinema in Porz. The selection speaks for itself. We at FIV have listed the highlights of the city for you – Have fun!

Residence – Noble cinema at the Hansaring

May I introduce – one of the noble cinemas of the city of Cologne. “Residence”. The special thing about this cinema is not only the beautiful and luxurious ambience, but also the possibility to drink a tasty cocktail after going to the cinema.

Cinedom – Cinema experience at the Mediapark

Directly at the Mediapark in Cologne you will find a cinema giant, the Cinedom. It is not only the fifth largest cinema of its kind but also one of the most popular cinemas in Cologne.

Sion summer cinema – cinema evening under the starry sky

Even on hot summer days, there is nothing against a visit to the cinema. However, when the sun is shining and the weather is nice, you usually don’t want to sit in the dark cinema auditorium. Here is our editorial tip: The Sion summer cinema. This cinema offers the perfect opportunity to watch a film in the cinema even on warm days. In addition, one should not miss the beautiful view of the Kranhäuser and the Cologne Cathedral.

Cinenova – Cinema, Open-Air and Live Ballet

Model agency pay money? No, you should make money!

Do you have to pay money to a model agency? Many models ask themselves this question at the beginning! Even in the larger agencies, we hear stories again and again that someone had to pay money to be accepted into a model agency. Watch it! Watch it! You shouldn’t pay money to get into an agency. Good agencies will make money with you.

Our reputable modeling agencies

The first and most important indicator to recognize a good model agency is the website, of course also evaluations and recommendations.

Model agency reviews

Here you can already see before the visit whether an agency is serious and whether it has good recommendations and ratings. If you are still standing in front of a model agency or a model agent who offers you a model contract by paying money, you should immediately refrain from doing so. As soon as you have to make a bank transfer right at the beginning, do not sign the contract. Serious agencies want to work with you without you having to pay anything.

Model agencies Germany

Model agencies usually do not charge any money for the recording. Later there are a few cases in which, for example, something is charged. However, this is something completely different, e.g. if the agency steps in advance for a trip. However, this is always agreed in advance. Therefore you should always rely on which model agency has a good website, represents various models, has good ratings on the internet and of course you should also keep an eye on the social media channels, especially Instagram!

Model Agency: Costs – Do I have to pay money?

Do costs arise in a model agency? In principle, as we have already explained in other articles, you should never have to pay anything to be accepted into a model agency!

Model agencies that are serious and have renowned customers want to earn money together with you. Therefore, it is important that a good agency will not charge you any money for the agency admission. Therefore there are no costs.

Costs of self-employment

Nevertheless, after some time you will incur some costs, because you are an independent entrepreneur. This includes, for example, travel expenses when you go to a casting. If you are later booked for jobs, in most cases customers will pay for travel and accommodation. For the first steps, however, you must occasionally buy a train ticket, or drive a few kilometers with the car. You should be aware of that.

Costs for outfits and make up

For such castings you only have to invest in basic outfits, e.g. black jeans, black simple shoes and tops, the same again in white. In addition, there are basic materials such as make-up. If something is missing from a photoshooting set, you immediately have something suitable with you and come across as super professional. Experts always have a suitcase with them, as they transport all their basics and have them ready to hand. Should a job or casting opportunity arise spontaneously, you can immediately grab your sports bag and get going. So you save time and don’t risk forgetting important things just because it gets hectic.

Costs for first-class photographers

The more jobs you have and the more money you save to get professional footage, the more rewarding it is to invest in a good photographer later. At the beginning you build up your model portfolio with test shootings and ideally also with smaller jobs. The test shootings are for the photographer as well as for the model, but also for the make-up artist for the portfolio. That means no money’s paid here. These so-called test shootings are a great opportunity to gain experience and practice, especially for you. At some point, however, you want photos that you don’t get through such a free shooting, then you have to invest in photographers.

Food x Berlin – Restaurants in a metropolis

If you are on the road in Berlin all day long, it is only understandable that hunger will strike at some point. But what should you eat with so much on offer? Don’t worry, we’ve picked out some great locations for you. From a noble restaurant to a delicious snack on the corner – there is something for everyone.

#1 Orlando – Sicilian cuisine and wines

Our first recommendation is the Sicilian Orlando in Prenzlauer Berg. The place, where owner Giulia Paolillo welcomes her guests like friends, is at the same time a delicatessen, kitchen for individual catering and location for relaxed events and family celebrations. There you can buy delicious wines, delicious caponata, coffee and homemade olive oil. Anyone who loves a culinary trip to Sicily is in the right place.

#2 India Club – From curry to other Indian specialties

Near the Brandenburg Gate, at the back of Hotel Adlon, the most elegant and exclusive Indian in town awaits you. Set in the British colonial style, tasty dishes with lots of vegetables, chicken and lamb await you. Of course, only meat of the highest organic quality is used. In a real Tandoori oven made of clay you get the most delicious and varied Indian dishes refined with the most diverse spices of Indian cuisine.

#3 The Bastard Berlin

Yeah, you heard right. The bastard is regarded as one of THE meeting places for a good meal. Breakfast is particularly popular there. On weekends, visitors usually queue up and you have to be lucky that someone gets up. The waiters politely ask that other guests be allowed to join them at the tables. The audience is, typically Kreuzberg, colourfully mixed and international. The breakfast menu is comprehensive, very varied and appealing. There are scrambled eggs, cheese and sausage as well as vegetarian and vegan breakfast dishes and delicious cakes. The homemade brioche are a poem – try it with cream cheese and jam. The coffee in the bastard is excellent. Apart from the long waiting time, the bastard is definitely worth a visit, as the breakfast variety is hardly comparable to that of another restaurant. So off to the bastard in Kreuzberg.

#4 La Stella Nera – Vegan and Varied

Don’t worry, for our vegan readers we have also found a mega location, the La Stelle Nera in Berlin-Neuköln. The menu offers you an unforgettable experience of Neopolitan pizzas from the wood-burning oven. Of course everything with high-quality, organic flour and, if you like, with vegan cheese or vegan salami. If you don’t want pizza there is of course, as usual with Italians, delicious vegan pasta. The pasta is also made completely in-house to ensure that no animal products are used. La Stella Nera also offers other Italian delicacies such as antipasti, salads and of course the finest homemade desserts. Créme Caramel, for example, is a vegan cream-caramel pudding with orange sauce, which is very popular with all guests. If you like it traditional, you can also order a vegan tiramisu for dessert. However, it is important to know that if you want to eat there, you should reserve a place beforehand. La Stella Nera is quite well visited and so spontaneous is the chance that you won’t get there.

#5 The best Döner in the world – Mustafa’s vegetable Kebap

Kebap fans watch out – nowhere is there a better kebab than at Mustafa’s vegetable kebap. We don’t make that up, every day hundreds of enthusiastic doner fans go to the snack bar at the Mehringdamm. For many this is even the only reason to come to Berlin. We constantly hear that people drive from the airport directly with suitcases to the popular snack bar to treat themselves to a kebab – unbelievable. However, you can’t reserve a seat there in advance. If you want a really tasty doner kebab for just under 3 euros, you have to allow for about 45 to 60 minutes of waiting time. However, every visitor can only recommend that you do this, because it is really worth it.

Short trip Berlin? The best districts for your business trip as a model

You got your next job as a model in Berlin? Congratulations! But when you’re in the capital for the first time, you’re sure to feel lost. But Berlin isn’t as big as you think, if you know a little bit about it! So that you arrive safely on your next trip and can also explore the most beautiful places directly and find the perfect hotel or also an inexpensive alternative to the hotel, we have summarized here once the best tips for Berlin. First of all, do we basically get to the question, in which parts of the city does it even live to be a model?

The best districts of Berlin

If you are already booking a hotel or a cheap accommodation, then you should definitely settle down in the more beautiful places of Berlin, where you can experience something after a strenuous job, find cosy and tasty restaurants or even one or the other club, e.g. if it continues for you only the next day.

Berlin hot spots for your first visit

  • Berlin-Mitte: Typical city instead of typical Berlin, but central
  • Prenzlauer Berg: For a cosy time in Berlin
  • Friedrichshain: Party and Lifestyle 24/7
  • Kreuzberg: International and still Berlin
  • Berlin-Mitte: Typical city instead of typical Berlin, but central

Jobs in Berlin, tips for your next trip

In the middle of Berlin you can’t do anything wrong, you are in the centre of all places, and between Zoo, Potsdamer Platz and Alexanderplatz, you have numerous possibilities to eat something tasty but also to experience something in the evening. The area around Berlin Mitte is characterized by tourism but also by busy people, from Monday to Friday. On weekends you will usually find tourists here, strolling from one place to another. The absolute advantage of Berlin Mitte, you are very central and can reach all places quickly. It’s also very safe here and you have very elegant nightlife. The little disadvantage, life is a bit more expensive and of course you don’t get to know the real Berlin and the real Berliners! And exactly these beautiful experiences on journeys, meeting new people, new cultures but also simply new areas, is one of the absolute advantages which one can enjoy as a model. It is guaranteed not to be boring! But if you want to experience a bit more of Berlin, then maybe you should settle down in one of these districts. The advantage, you can easily find them! Around Berlin Mitte, we start northeast in Prenzlauer Berg. You reach Prenzlauer Berg directly above Alexanderplatz. Then it goes down to the south via Friedrichshain to Kreuzberg.

Prenzlauer Berg: For a cosy time in Berlin

The home of hipsters and young families is especially for those who want to experience a dignified Berlin, the best area for cheap overnight stays like at Airbnb or hotel rooms. Here in Prenzlauer Berg you will find fewer original Berliners, but many newcomers, but a very relaxed Berlin atmosphere, beautiful streets and a little green left and right. In Prenzlauer Berg there is more upscale gastronomy, although you can still afford it, of course, because the prices in Berlin are not as overpriced as in Munich, for example. In Prenzlauer Berg you will also find numerous smaller clubs, where you can spend the evening relaxed to jazz sounds or dance to house and hip hop. In Prenzlauer Berg you will find fewer tourists, many newcomers and therefore a very interesting and international mix.

Friedrichshain: Party and Lifestyle 24/7

If you want to experience something more and also a little younger culture, then you should definitely take a look at Berlin Friedrichshain. Here you will not only find the trendy scene clubs around Warschauer Straße, e.g. the Great Crested Grebe, here you will also find real Berlin streets. A little snotty, a little edgy, totally adorable! Friedrichshain is a smaller district in relation to Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg; it connects the two central and multicultural parts of Berlin. Here you can find party tourists in particular, which is why you can also experience a lot in the evening. From the club with swimming pool to simply hanging around on the street, e.g. on Warsaw Street and the many exciting possibilities that arise around this place. If you go a little further, only a few minutes, you are already at the beginning of Kreuzberg!

Kreuzberg: International and still Berlin

Just a few decades ago Kreuzberg was the multicultural district in which there were many problems. As a result, many creative people settled here and artists, so Kreuzberg became the popular district it is today. Kreuzberg perfectly connects the Berlin world and the international, tourists meet here with real local but also with dressed up and of course hipsters. The district is very cosy and offers with its various small bars, restaurants and clubs for every evening alternate. Berlin Kreuzberg will definitely not be boring for you as a model, neither during the day nor in the evening. During the day you can get various snacks from all over the world in hundreds of small restaurants, from the classics of Italy and Turkey to Mongolian, Kenyan or Indian, all cultures of the world can be found here! Kreuzberg also offers numerous hotels as well as Airbnb overnight accommodations, so that you can be right in the district and feel right at home here.

City map, travel to Berlin: Top recommendations for your short trip

We have summarized all three districts once again for you here in a clear map. Of course the other districts of Berlin are always worth a visit, but here you would have the easiest entry and get to know a beautiful part of Berlin. Not only a nice part, but also a lot of entertainment that not only the original Berliner gives but also tourists and business people. This mix makes the capital a very special place and also a hotspot in Germany not only for models but also for fashion designers and celebrities.

How do I find the best and cheapest hotel in Berlin?

If you are looking for a quick way to spontaneously book a hotel in Berlin, the best way is a booking portal and Booking.com.

On hotel booking portals you will not only find reviews and recommendations of other users but you will also constantly find the current availability. Often you have to make a lot of calls to find available rooms, booking portals provide a quick and uncomplicated insight into the current situation. Especially at big events, mostly fairs, many hotels are fully booked, because international guests also arrive and some companies book out half hotels directly, e.g. if a big division comes from China. Therefore it is recommended to take a look at such booking portals.

It pays to book via Airbnb for Berlin?

If you want to save some money, booking with Airbnb is definitely worthwhile. However, if you have a demanding and stressful job, it is sometimes advisable to book a hotel, as they take care of you completely. You don’t have to worry about food or keeping your room clean. So you can fall straight into bed late in the evening, after a strenuous job in Berlin. Usually the customer or your model agency will book the hotel anyway. This is the advantage of management, we take care of all your concerns! This way you can fully concentrate on your career and get the right input from your management to develop your career.

Model Johanna in Athens: Greece – modeling, living and working abroad

Going abroad as a model – a constant theme for many models, both New Comers and professionals. With a stay abroad, some plans come your way, you will be rewarded with plenty of experiences – no matter where in the world you are. Many young models are concerned about whether they can cope independently abroad, what exactly awaits them and which country or city is the right choice. Johanna von Cocaine Models is currently on the road as a model in Athens. I spoke to her about her stay abroad in the Greek capital.

Model Johanna – modeling in relaxed Athens

CM: Johanna, you are a model in Athens until the end of February, how did you get there?

I was already working here in November 2014 for one month, now my agency asked if I am available again and I came back. My agency in Cologne has put me in touch with the agency here in Athens.

CM: Why Athens of all places? What attracted you to Athens as a model?

I didn’t choose Athens directly, it turned out rather like this. But it is a beautiful city with a relaxed working atmosphere & the weather is wonderful.

Johanna-Model-Sedcard-Fashion-Editorial-Commercial-Catwalk-Onlineshop-Tv-Portrait-22

CM: Would you recommend Athens as a model city?

I would recommend Athens as a model city so far away that you can get good pictures here. Most models come to Athens to take good pictures and gain experience, not to earn the big money, because the payment is rather meagre. But to make contacts and get good pictures Athens is absolutely recommendable.

Modeling Experience Athens – Preparations & Experiences

CM: How did you prepare for your trip there?

Actually one does not have to prepare oneself really great, the hotel is booked before by the agency for the model and one must actually only book his flight and fly off. It is important to plan your meals on site before your trip, as not all apartments have kitchens and you are often on the road the whole day. I always take a few plastic cans and plastic cutlery with me so that I can cook my food on the spot and take it with me during the day.

CM: What are your experiences as a model in Athens so far?

Firstly, the people in Athens are mostly very friendly. Everything is very relaxed! On the other hand, there is always work here. There are many good photographers in Athens and clients are loyal and book you back when they are satisfied with you.

CM: How would you describe the model target group in Greece, which model types are in demand?

Blond and brown-haired models are the absolute favorite here, Asian and dark-skinned models have it rather hard here. Besides, the Greeks don’t like “too skinny” girls that much. One of my friends was even cheated a few centimetres more on her hip for her sedcard.

CM: Which castings should you attend and which jobs did you get during your time in Greece?

There are castings every day for the most different jobs, there is everything. You go to castings for fashion shows, TV commercials, online shops, magazines, editorials or campaigns. Anything you can imagine. I did some shootings for online shops, for example for sunglasses or clothes, such shootings are enough for every model here, two campaigns +TV spot, web campaigns, editorial for a magazine and more.

Johanna-Model-Sedcard-Fashion-Editorial-Commercial-Catwalk-Onlineshop-Tv-Portrait-21

Johanna between Castings & Jobs – Breakfast, Coffee, Castings

CM: What is your daily modeling life in Athens like?

Get up, make breakfast, then on the way to the castings or bookings get a coffee, which is super cheap here, then it goes with the metro, the bus, the trolley or on foot to the casting. There you are usually five to 10 minutes and then you go on to the next casting. Bookings, on the other hand, are more relaxed. The model has a given arrival time, as a model you are usually on time and then wait an hour for the client or the make-up artists. Then, on average, eight hours or more are worked.

CM: How did you live and how did you get it?

Each agency has its own apartments/hotels for the models, in which you are automatically accommodated. I stayed at the hotel last time, too. There you share the room with another girl and if you are lucky you will find the bathroom in the room, otherwise you have to share the bathroom in the hallway with the other hotel occupants. There is also a small kitchen where you can make yourself something to eat. Accommodation in a hotel costs 17 Euro per night and will be deducted from the money you receive. But this time I live with friends, it’s cheaper and you have more space.

CM: How did you spend your time in Athens away from modeling?

In the evenings you often go out, have fun and have a drink. Otherwise you can of course visit the Acropolis and other sights. I also spend a lot of time in the shopping streets and when I have a day off I go to the sea.

Athens – Highlights & Recommendations

CM: What are your personal Athens highlights?

The Acropolis in any case, one should go up there once, alone to enjoy the view! This is completely free of charge for European students. Another highlight are of course the new friends and the hours together. An insider tip: The spinach feta pie which you can buy here in all bakeries is great and should be plastered on every visit to Athens.

CM: What do you recommend to other models who go to Athens for a while?

Calmness! Even if you are a young model who is a little panicked for the first few days, you are never too late in Greece. Furthermore, I can only recommend a good contact to the local agency. I have seen that if you visit the agency more often and maintain a good relationship, you get a lot of help and the agency gives you some opportunities. Always take sunscreen with you, because I even got a little sunburn in February!

CM: What does the modeling industry in Athens and Greece look like?

She’s definitely big! There are many jobs, albeit for less money. Due to Greece’s financial situation, one can certainly imagine how people have to struggle with it to pay enough. Nevertheless, there is work for every willing to work! I haven’t met anyone here who hasn’t worked. Nevertheless, the market for Male Models is very narrow, because there are enough Greek boys on site.

<Johanna-Model-Sedcard-Fashion-Editorial-Commercial-Catwalk-Onlineshop-Tv-Portrait-14<

CM: Is a stay in Athens worthwhile for models?

Not necessarily to make big money, but for good pictures and a lot of experiences that really take you further. You can also earn money, but it may well be that in the end there is not so much jumping around when I look at the payment here.

CM: What did you notice positively in Athens, what rather negatively?

The friendly people are positive! Absolutely negative is chronic lateness.

CM: Are there any cultural differences that a German visitor should take into account?

One thing is very unusual: You can order coffee at the bakeries and it will be delivered to you wherever you want! this is super practical! Another big difference and for many probably a big change: Smoking is going on everywhere inside, whether at the shooting, in the restaurant, in the club or at the casting.

Johanna: “Now I’m a pro in posing”

CM: What do you take with you to Germany from your time as a model in Athens?

Many new friends and experiences. Also some pictures, which I can use for my book and fortunately also my earned money. I also take many new contacts with me, which I will certainly be able to use when I come back. One thing I can say for sure: After your stay in Athens you will be a professional in posing for online shop shootings! That’s something every model here takes with them.

Johanna-Model-Sedcard-Fashion-Editorial-Commercial-Catwalk-Onlineshop-Tv-Portrait-15

CM: For which models with what ambitions do you recommend Athens?

I think Athens is something for models with experience as well as for newcomers. Of course you should have a reasonably good book, but you don’t have to work so much to get a foothold here. You shouldn’t be shy either, because you are rather small for a model, because there are rather less fashion shows taking place here.

CM: Dear Johanna, thank you for your interview!

Modeling Abroad: Malia in Cape Town – Jobs, Castings and Models in South Africa

Going abroad as a model – a constant theme for many models, both New Comers and professionals. With a stay abroad, some plans come your way, you will be rewarded with plenty of experiences – no matter where in the world you are. Many young models are concerned about whether they can cope independently abroad, what exactly awaits them and which country or city is the right choice. Malia von Cocaine Models is currently on the road as a model in Cape Town. I talked to her about her stay abroad in the South African dream city.

Model Malia: “Cape Town was a coincidence”

CM: Malia, you’ve been modeling in South Africa for several weeks/months. What have you experienced there as a model?

Here you experience a lot – from shootings, sight seeing, surfing to shark diving. Cape Town is extremely diverse in every respect.

CM: How did you discover South Africa/ Cape Town in particular?

I’m honest, Cape Town was more of a coincidence. My friend wanted to spend a semester abroad at the university and I thought I could just come along and model there. Since we went on holiday a year ago and had an agency there, it was very easy to implement the plan then.

CM: How did you prepare for your stay in advance?

In the end you don’t have to prepare for Cape Town, the only difficult or “long” one is the work visa, so you should plan about 2-3 weeks until you have all documents together and drive to the embassy in Berlin. It’s also important what clothes you take with you. I say this quite explicitly because Cape Town does not offer good or high-quality shopping opportunities (in terms of shootings). So if you plan to test, you should bring some clothes.

Malia about the possibilities as a model in Cape Town

CM: What are your experiences in Cape Town as a model so far?

There is a lot of competition on the road, casting can be longer than you want and direct booking unfortunately doesn’t exist. The jobs are great and you have opportunities you wouldn’t have in Germany and the tests are great.

CM: From your experience: Which models are particularly in demand in South Africa?

Ü30 models with blond short hair. Also male models.

CM: What does the modeling industry in Cape Town look like?

There are extremely many agencies and in the summer (German winter) the customers make a pilgrimage to Cape Town and produce there, due to the low costs. Yes, the model fees are also about half as good as in comparison to Germany. You feel like in a German village, because there are extremely many German models/photographers/MUAs on site.

CM: What jobs have you done in Cape Town so far? How did they go off?

Sport jobs, a lot is produced there in this respect, but also TV commercials. The process is no different than in Germany, perhaps one difference: after the casting there is always a callback, i.e. a second casting. If you are taken then there is one day only for fitting and then it is only produced. The days are long because you start shooting very early (because of the light). People rarely work over lunchtime because the light is too hard and it usually doesn’t continue until the afternoon.

CM: What are your typical daily routines in South Africa as a model?

The agencies communicate via SMS and send you the casting. Then you go to the different casting studios and hope that not 100 other people are waiting for the same casting. Waiting times vary from 10 minutes to 4 hours per casting.

There are normal castings (here the waiting times are 1-4 hours) and “requested” castings (there you are specially requested, have an appointment and usually come directly to it). Requested castings are always the ones where you have the best chances, because the customer has already selected you based on his pictures and wants to see you.

CM: How do you live and how did you get your place? What do you recommend?

The agencies help or provide accommodation. But I’m not a fan of model apartments and that’s why we chose Airbnb for our own accommodation. This was not directly in Cape Town City, but only 15 minutes away, cheaper and on the beach – which I personally like better. If you are an independent person and like to organize yourself, I can only recommend such a thing. If you are perhaps unsure, you should seek the help of the agency.

Malias Cape Town Highlights

CM: What are your personal Cape Town highlights?

My highlight was one of my last test shootings with the photographer Jacques Weyers (photographed for Elle Southafrica and World of Swimsuits among others). We shot an editorial, which was very important to me personally and in which I could find myself very well. Besides, I was the only model Jacques tested with, which was like a little knighthood for me.

CM: Which model hot spots would you recommend to other models?

The Food Markets in Cape Town are amazing, and I’m also a fan of some restaurants: Kloofstreet House, Cafe Paradiso, Simply Asia, Beluga and Black Sheep. Osumo makes the best smoothies and to celebrate: Era, Tschin Tschin Rooftopbar, Shimmy Beachclub.

CM: What do you like about modeling in Cape Town? What is more problematic?

I find the locations in Cape Town fantastic. If you want to do tests, you can have extremely many settings and improve your book very much.

Another problem is that the fees are unfortunately not so good and you have to be careful about the crime in Cape Town.

CM: What does a model have to pay special attention to in South Africa? (rules, customs, differences to Germany etc.)

Cape Town is very Western/European, but yes there are townships and crime is high. In the evening when it gets dark you should not go out alone or to the beach, you should not carry too many valuables around with you, carry too expensive clothes, get involved in conversations in the street or just go with people. You should just pay attention to what’s going on around you. When you rent a car, you have to expect people to drive extremely badly and uncoordinated. We had a little accident because someone drove into our car (only fender damage) and my credit card was stolen from the machine. You just have to be aware of these things when you are there and plan to fly there. Nevertheless, you don’t have to be afraid on the spot, because if you just pay attention to these things you are safe.

Cape Town for the Model-Book – Germany for the Model-Gage

CM: What do you take with you from your stay in South Africa to Germany?

Cape Town is good for the book and for the experience, however, one simply has to say that one is “on paid vacation” there and that Plus Minus Null will return to Germany.

CM: Would you recommend South Africa, especially Cape Town, to other models? Why?

I think for Newfaces Cape Town is great, you can build your book with great photographers, especially in terms of commercials. Then I also think that Cape Town is very good for models Ü30, because the market there is very versatile and as a model you can work there very well even in old age. If you fall into this grid or simply want to gain experience abroad I can recommend Cape Town, but if you think you will make the big money there I have to say, unfortunately, stay in Germany.

CM: Dear Malia, thank you for the interview!

Become a Model Frankfurt: Agency, Jobs and Travel – Questions and Answers

Frankfurter Models – Today we wanted to give all young young models in Frankfurt am Main a little insight into the work of a model agency in Frankfurt. Did you know that most jobs don’t take place in Frankfurt? But let’s start with the basic questions that arise about models. Becoming a model is quite demanding, because you already start at school. So you have to concentrate not only on good grades, but also on keeping your requirements and improving yourself.

Become a model in Frankfurt Main: How it works

Basically these question always arises first:

How old do I have to be to start modeling?

If you want to be represented and managed as a model in an international model agency like ours, you should be at least 15 years old. As a model agency, we recommend that you concentrate fully on school before you start.

Of course there are not only teenagers and teen models in the model industry, but also models with 20, 30 or even 60 years, so-called Best Agers. We also have tips for you!

Full concentration on school

Good grades and a good basic education will help you a lot later in your job. After all, the better you get, the more flights you have to make, the more punctual you have to get to hotels in new cities where you have to find your way around again and again. Sometimes you have to show some spontaneity for small advertising jobs or moderations. After the shootings or in the breaks, there are small small talks. If you then have a Magazine Shooting and can’t communicate off-set with the others who have usually seen a lot of the world, you shine less than with good general knowledge. But the more you get close to the end of your school days, the more often you will get booking requests from your model agency or cities outside Frankfurt. In addition, there are often travel days, so you are on the road for two or three days. The better your grades are, the more likely your school is to give you this freedom.

Legal requirements and labour law

The second important point in the minimum age of 15 years are the labour laws and regulations that exist in Germany. With 15 years you may already work substantially more freely, under 15 years you need special permissions, e.g. from the youth welfare department in addition, from a specialist. In an international model agency like ours you work a lot with fashion and products for a target group that is also over 16 years. Therefore international model agencies focus on models with 15, 16 years.

International jobs and customers

The third important point, if you want to work internationally, you need time to travel. Such a stay abroad usually lasts at least 45 days, but mostly even 60 days. The only time students really have time for such a long stay, including the trip, is during the summer holidays. In the summer holidays are generally rest periods, not only in Germany but also abroad. The families go on holiday and there is less production. Of course, there are fewer jobs for models. Some agencies, in Paris or also in Milan even close the agency completely for one or two weeks during this time. The high season for such a stay is then again September to December and afterwards from February to July.

In which cities are there the most jobs for models?

If you want to start your career from Frankfurt, your first focus will be on Germany and the larger cities in your area. This mainly includes Cologne but also Düsseldorf. The simple basic rule says that the more people live in a city, the more jobs, more advertising agencies, more manufacturing companies, but also more service providers and more advertising opportunities in the city center. The two factor plays the situation of the city, so there is e.g. a clear Top 10 in Germany. You can get most jobs as a model in Berlin and Hamburg. Especially in Berlin many international productions take place, in Hamburg there are many media agencies and therefore also many offers for models. Then come Munich, Cologne and just after that Frankfurt am Main, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

Alternative for Frankfurt Models: Cologne, Berlin and Frankfurt

In Frankfurt am Main, the view in the direction of Cologne and Düsseldorf is definitely the most worthwhile. But you can also do some interesting and exciting jobs in Frankfurt.

What jobs are there in Frankfurt? Of course you can do a wide range of jobs in Frankfurt. For example, you can work in the Frankfurt city centre for fashion designers and present fashion to customers from all over the world. Showrooms are closed events, usually only the fashion designers, someone from marketing and two representatives of the customer are present. You present the fashion on your body. Such a thing is called Fitting Model. Also in Frankfurt you will do many jobs in showrooms at the beginning of your modeling career. Besides, you will do your first photo shootings as a model in Frankfurt. Probably most of all for Instagram and with growing experience also for the first Frankfurt online shops. No matter if it’s about fashion, products from the technology industry or sports. The better you get and the more varied, the higher the chances are that customers will book you for jobs in Frankfurt.

With increasing experience, productions also increase in size. If you are first-class, you will also make it into the first commercials, as well as here for Opel, produced with three of our models near Frankfurt! With a production team of over 50 people, a helicopter, over ten cars that can be seen alone in the spot and a whole production team behind it.

How do I apply in a model agency in Frankfurt?

For your application in Frankfurt you don’t need much, the experienced eyes of the model agency see the requirements for models at a glance. All we need from you as a model agency are three to four photos. Important, you don’t have to book a professional photographer to improve your model portfolio. At the beginning, at the application, simple mobile phone photos are enough for us as an agency.

It is important that you can be seen in daylight. You should wear neither makeup nor styling, so that nothing distracts from you as a person. Because naturalness is also the most important thing for customers later on. When you later negotiate with customers or send the models abroad, many decisions are made on the basis of Polaroids. Polaroids are just such simple shots. Without styling, makeup, special outfit, nothing distracts from you. The background is a simple concrete wall, you are standing in front of the camera, looking into the lens, without posing and emotions. Naturalness is the A&O.

Read more about this topic here: Model Polaroids.

Do’s and Dont’s for Frankfurt Models

If you really want to become a model, you should avoid any unnatural influences beforehand. This includes simple gel nails but also going to the solarium, hair extensions, lips injections, do without everything! Because you are as beautiful as you are!

Application in a model agency

In the following you simply send your picture material to Modelagentur, some data as well as your contact, your name, place of residence but also the most important measurements as well as your body and clothing size. If a model agency is interested in you, they will get back to you as soon as possible, most likely within five days. So the process won’t take that long, if you don’t get any feedback from the model agencies, the look won’t suit you. Don’t ask any questions, because every model agency has only limited capacities and wants to take care of the models completely. If you are in an agency tomorrow, you would want full attention. If you don’t fit, you should accept this and try your luck in another agency.

How tall do I have to be as a model in Frankfurt?

The body size plays a decisive role, even if there is no completely uniform scale of measurements, the fashion world in particular focuses on a minimum body size of 175cm for women. You shouldn’t be bigger than 181cm either. This is the perfect size for pre-cut garments but also for fashion shows in Frankfurt. Meanwhile you should be at least 186 cm tall and maximum 190 cm in your application as men’s model. So you fit perfectly to the female cast, even if they wear high heels. It is important that you are not too much trained as a man, you should have a defined body, not be a muscle package.

These are the prerequisites for models who want to enter the fashion industry. Of course measurements can also deviate, models with 170 cm can also have success, but statistically it will be less. But if you still make an effort, show full commitment, who knows! You can also be more trained as a man, e.g. if you want to become a sportsman or Fitness Model. In an international agency like ours, however, you should normally meet the requirements.

Tip! Here you can find good Gyms in Frankfurt

The clothing size for women should be between 32 and 36. For Curvy Models, the sizes usually start at 42. For men, the ideal size at the beginning of a career is 48 to 52. If you want to become even more of a minimum size, check out the requirements for models here.

  • Women
    Body size for Fashion: 176 – 180cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 172 – 181cm / Germany
    Slim figure, usually long hair
  • Men
    Body size for Fashion: 186 – 190cm / International
    Body size for advertising: 184 – 194cm / Germany
    Slim or slightly sporty figure

What happens after my agency recording in Frankfurt am Main?

The following steps are very different from your age or the time you are going to spend with the school. For example, if you still have two years of school ahead of you, the first two years will focus on building your Modelbook and getting it ready for the national and international market. Your agency will arrange appointments with good photographers to help you with your portfolio. It is important for you always to pay attention to the quality, it is better to have few good photos than a mass of halfway good pictures. Because at the latest when you are in competition as a model, e.g. for jobs in other cities like Hamburg or Berlin, you need a strong portfolio where the customer can see with a few moments how good you are.

After the first year, the first jobs start slowly, it takes a while, because you first have to build up a model book and you have to have good performance in school, so that you get free, most productions, almost all of them, are during the week. If there’s one more day of travel and one day for the return journey, plus the booking is for 2 days, you’re quickly out for a week. Therefore you will work even less during school time and do smaller jobs as well as the previously mentioned showrooms in Frankfurt city centre or for Frankfurt online shops or social media channels like Instagram photo shootings.

If you’re already at the end of your school days at the agency, it’s sometimes a matter of placement abroad. As a model it should go on and on for you, from Frankfurt to Berlin, from Berlin to London Fashion Week and from London to Milan, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo. That’s exactly the plan of an international model agency and the reason why you’re playing in the professional league here. This requires special commitment, self-interest and of course a constant will to improve yourself. The job of a model is very demanding!

Social media marketing with influencers for fashion companies

Social media management plays an important role in any modern media planning for new projects, products and brands. Here companies reach the right contact persons directly and without large wastage. Models, bloggers, they are influencers and bring brands to their target audience. For every marketing company, the clever choice of channels, people and product placement is the guarantee of commercial success. Those who choose between different social networks these days do not only have the choice between one or two networks, many today are competing for the favor of billions of users. To date, there is only one undisputed leader, the largest social network since Facebook, with nearly two billion users. A huge opportunity for companies. In addition to the industry giants, more and more new and interesting networks are opening up. Real big players are above all YouTube and Instagram. Emerging networks include Pinterest and Snapchat.

Influencer Marketing for Germany + Europe

Influencer marketing is concerned with the targeted marketing of products or brands by opinion leaders (influencers). Many clients use Instagram as lead generation. Through the targeted integration of thematically matching goods, blogs and Instagram channels are now becoming the sought-after promotion platform for marketing departments. Influencers are instruments of “digital marketing”. In the jargon of the advertising industry, “influencers […] are the new supertargets in marketing. As multipliers and opinion leaders, they are at the center of their own network and are actively networked with others. They strengthen the reputation of a supplier, help products, brands and services to make a quick breakthrough and thus ensure success.” (Paul Gillin: The New Influencers, Quill Driver, Frenso 2007).

Increase Reach – Social Media Influencer: Creative Marketing

The more people ‘talk’ about you or your brand, the more successful you are! The principle is old-fashioned and also works in social media management. To gain exposure to social networks like Instagram in Snapchat, it’s especially important to work with the right people – the perfect influencers. For lifestyle, beauty, fashion and travel models are the perfect multipliers! They set trends, meet famous people and wear the latest collections. A very authentic product placement for your own brand! Just like editors in magazines, bloggers in social networks are the opinion leaders. They are interesting to people because they report live and directly from their private lives. This absolutely authentic presentation makes her photos, stories and videos in social networks and her followers hot. Products and brands that use them will be re-purchased, used and in the best case recommended. As a result, the influence of social media as a marketing tool and advertising medium has become particularly large. Especially in the younger target groups, bloggers are the stars of the new era. Anyone who wants to follow these trends will follow them, not the classic TV commercials. Even young bloggers reach thousands, tens of thousands of people with their channels. This offers brands, fashion labels, companies and companies unbeatable advantages in direct customer contact and sales promotion.

Classics like YouTube, Facebook and Youngsters like Instagram, Snapchat

Modern market leaders – Instagram is often an insider’s tip in online marketing of companies and companies for their products and services that are advertised or promoted on social networks. For a few weeks, it is also possible to switch to Instagram advertising. What distinguishes Instagram, especially from the other major social networks, is the very exact targeting of targeting. Since then, Facebook has ranked first with over 1.5 billion users, with Instagram already bringing together more than 300 million. Due to the hitherto very specialized user group, the picture network is provided by the house with little wastage in the promotion. Cross-media, cross-network work is the recipe for success for reach and cover in social networks such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter & Co. Here are the big players for Germany:

  • YouTube – The largest video platform
    1,400,000 users
  • Instagram – the app for photos & small videos
    900,000,000 users
  • Facebook – the network for everyone
    1,850,000 users
  • Snapchat – The Youngster of Networks
    300,000,000 users

Social Media Monitoring

Anyone who wants to promote his products successfully as a company or company in social media must pay attention to two factors. This is the choice of media (mix, style, channel, etc.) for the skillful placement as well as the monitoring of the success following the advertising campaigns. Social media monitoring therefore addresses the particular challenge of reviewing outcomes – achievements and goals that companies set themselves in advance of each campaign. A variety of analytical methods, which are already largely provided by the individual social networks, help. Here you can read out various information and see if your own campaign on the Web was successful. The key figures in social media management include:

  • Target group (demographics, interests, geography, behavior)
  • Technology and user data (stationary, mobile)
  • Acquisition and origin (search engines and social media)
  • Behavior of the users as well as the conversion

Social Media Ads & Retargeting – Marketing Strategies for Modern Brands

Especially for the technological components, social media managers can create complex campaign plans for companies and companies. For example, users who see our ad but are using a new iPhone may see different ad impressions than users with older devices. For example, this scattering effect is excellent for companies with products in high and low price segments. Different messages can be sent to different target groups here. Another component of sales promotion through social networks is retargeting, the intelligent new or return of visitors. By retargeting we catch users who have ever been interested in your offer. This increases the willingness of users to interact and their success in the online media.
