The absolute breakthrough in the fashion industry has been the “Off-White” brand for a few years now. Streetwear with a new meaning

The exclusive fashion label was created by the American Virgil Abloh in 2012. Off-White is a kind of luxurious streetwear collection, which alludes to extreme contrasts and almost provokes. The company with the casual character focuses on high-quality natural materials and exquisite fabrics. Sporty silhouettes, graffiti prints, motifs and cuts from the 60s and 70s make up the creations of the young newcomer label and create an urban look. Off-White adapts to every season and is therefore rooted in the zeitgeist. The production is headquartered in Milan and takes up the “here and now” in an innovative and refined way.

The success of the brand came with the Street-Style-Fashion-Week. During Fashion Week, people from the fashion industry, such as models, designers, bloggers and photographers, will be photographed between show dates. These images are then photographed in blogs, online and print magazines as currently worn street-style looks. Since these looks are actually worn on the streets of the big fashion week metropolises, they are often the trigger for new trends and inspire new combinations.

Designer & Founder Virgil Abloh

The genius behind Off-White is more than just a fashion designer! Virgil Abloh is DJ, artist and designed furniture. After graduating in civil engineering and architecture, the then 26-year-old devoted himself to fashion. The designer has not only created his own label, “Off-White”, but is also the creative director of the luxury brand Louis Vuitton. Abloh has become popular in the media mainly due to the “The Ten” cooperation with Nike. Shortly after his studies the young talent got to know Kanye West, meanwhile the two together with other artists on the new album of Jay-Z and Kanye “Watch the Throne”. Abloh was involved in the design of the merch and the stage sets.

Birth hour of Off-White

Off-White was founded in 2013 and has since been managed by designer Virgil Abloh. The label’s focus is on the latest fashion, yet the brand is the source of various creative works and projects such as art, music and videos that contribute to the success of the entire company. In 2014, the designer presented his first own collection and combined high fashion with streetwear. His training as an architect was particularly noticeable in his creations in the form of geometric lines and individual prints. The unique designs were worn in numerous music videos, among others by Beyonce and Nicki Minaj. The first concept store was opened in Tokyo and others followed in Hong Kong, London and New York.

While the label celebrated rather mediocre successes in the first years shortly after its foundation, it shot through the roof with its designs in the last two years! The breakthrough came in 2017 when designer Virgil Abloh set a milestone with the opening of the concept store in New York. Cooperating with well-known artists and brands, he realized that turning the world of all sneaker fans upside down wasn’t a problem for him. Abloh’s Off- White started the “The Ten” project in cooperation with the American sportswear brand Nike. 10 of the label’s most popular shoes were reinterpreted and redesigned, triggering an absolute hype! Collectors and fans are paying unbelievable sums to complement their brand collections with limited edition pieces.

“Hiking” Ankle Boots

The “Hiking” Ankle Boots were part of the first looks presented at Off-White’s Pre-Fall Presentation 2017. Since then the shoes are extremely popular and inspired Abloh himself to create a new version of the Ankle Boots. The new boot design is made of supple leather with metal eyelets and thick rubber sole. The designer creates the contrast in these shoes with the silver ice claw on the outside of the shoe. Especially for the cold months a real eye-catcher!

Sandal in patent leather and canvas jacquard with shearling trim

To the light skirt and jumpsuits, the Off-White sandals from patent leather fit perfectly! The unmistakable canvas jacquard logo tapes are also used here, based on the Industry Belt. Fashion becomes a cultural asset – fashion has existed since the beginning of mankind

Fashion existed already at the beginning of mankind First, as described above, it was a purely practical product for early humans to protect against external environmental influences. The first fashionable excesses occurred in the late Middle Ages, but it was not until the 20th century that it became a cultural asset and lifestyle product for almost everyone. Designers, top models, fashion labels, they all gained media and social attention through the first film premieres, the upcoming TV and thanks to print magazines. Fashion has been a social cultural asset since the 20th century and has become a persistent mass phenomenon at the same time.

For the first time clothing became “fashion” by working the fur with the first sewing needles. Thus, external demarcation and individuality gained in importance in society for the first time. Clothing became a status symbol. People of the Renaissance era are still familiar to many people today. You all know the Sun King Louis XII, but for a long time fashionable clothing was reserved exclusively for the aristocracy – ergo, it was only late a general social cultural asset. Elaborately manufactured clothing became affordable in the 19th century, thanks to industrialization, but for more and more people. With increasing prosperity, practical, simple clothing rapidly lost its importance. Fashionable clothing became a product and cultural asset for the first time.

Not only fashion itself was in demand, also the fashion world, individual brands and models. Also the media and advertising filmmakers of that time quickly discovered the new, prominent designers and designs for themselves. Designers were able to produce their haute couture in large quantities and standard sizes due to increasing demand and new industrial possibilities. And just as the sewing needle brought about the first great change early in human history, the new industrial mass production of fashion also led to increasing possibilities for demarcation and individualisation in society. Industrial production made fashion faster to produce – but also interchangeable. Fashion became “everyday life” with various multicultural influences.

By the end of the 21st century, fashion had become a gigantic industry media and advertising, especially magazines, TV and, since the 2000s, the World Wide Web, were spreading new trends faster and more globally. But is fashion now an individual question or a product of purely qualitative standards – like many others? To explore fashion and its fundamental social origins, it helps to turn to a classical sociologist: Simmel’s “Philosophy of Fashion” (1905), which is referred to in the following chapter.

  • Clothing is a useful product for protection against environmental influences such as moisture and cold. Fashion is a social need.
  • Only in the 20th century did fashionable clothing become a social cultural asset until it became a gigantic industry in the 21st century. Today, everyone wears fashions, whether in individual groups or according to generally accepted patterns.

Fashion trends – media and trend research

What are fashion trends? Trends define social trends in their beginnings. From the first individuals to global effects. Fashion is also an essential term in media and trend research. Fashion (as described above) is not the same as clothing. Ergo, if people only wore appropriate clothing, fashion would be superfluous. Here the “philosophy of fashion” comes to the ultimate conclusion that fashion can only work as fashion if it presents its difference from the factual practicality (of everyday clothing).

Milan Fashion Week – From crazy Gucci Show to Gigi Hadid with Puppy

The designers of the official new collections, are often not only by art or z.b. Inspire music, but have their own muses. These are nowadays mainly models or stars and starlets. Not only models, but also life styles are a topic in fashion. Designers like Gucci want to use their fashion to express, transform, improve and sometimes highlight their positive sides or critique negative ones.

Every year, designers have to come up with new trends. To attract attention, they try to show the craziest things and most extraordinary shows. To make an impression, or to stay in mind, Creative Director of Gucci has come up with something new this year. Alessandro Michéle and his team showed an extraordinary fashion show in a room reminiscent of a hospital operating room. The Models that presented the collection were made up in various ways. Some of the models got a drawn monobrow and others walked down the catwalk with their own heads under their arms. From Models with horns to little dragons on their arms, Gucci has shown a mix of luxury fashion and a little freak show in his collection. The team tried to make the models look out of this world and somehow like fairytale creatures, but with a precision and a lot of effort to get a look that it looks almost real. Their message to show different and diverse looks, that are somehow freakish, defenitly catched our attention. Check the video from the show yourself.

The Tod’s brand is mostly known for making leather shoes, handbags and other accessories. This year they have shown their new collection at the Milan Fashion Week. The new fashion showed women’s clothing, in great muted and pastel colors such as beige, brown and cream. However, all the attention was on another factor. Gigi Hadid opened the show and like a few other models she was walking with a cute puppy in her arms.

Paris Fall / Winter: Chanel with chic Fashion in the Woods

Karl Lagerfeld is more than just the designer of Chanel. He defined and gave the Fashion the right style as amazing as no one else could have done after Coco Chanel. This Fall / Winter Collection of Chanel, he showed the clothes in a setting that looked like a wood. With leaves everywhere, trees and dark drapes coming from the ceiling, the Models walked down and showed pieces that defined the vision of the designs. Strong women with nice business dresses and beautiful pearls or gemstones on handbags.The Scenography was perfectly fitted to the designs and gave a nice insight look of the chic, classical and sophisticated look that Karl Lagerfeld sees with the brand.

Bottega Veneta Men and Womenswear – Großartige Mäntel und Stoffe

Model Julia Stegner opened the show of the new autumn / winter collection 2018 and 2019 Bottega Veneta. Among model asterisks like Caroline Trentini and Simon Nessman had a small catwalk comeback. Moschino and Jeremy Scott go well together, the designer has sportswear and streetstyle covered in his own brand, and Moschino includes chic and sleek women’s clothing. The brand Moschino is like Jeremy Scott no gaudy color too bad, with the inspiration in Pop Art and the motto “Fashion has to be fun”, the designer shows the latest autumn / winter fashion. Unknowing viewers may have wondered why the collections are similar or even almost seem somehow identical. However, he showed a more elegant version of clothes in the Moschino catwalk show. The cuts, presentation and idea behind the collections did not look alike except for the colors: bright and expressive pink, blue or neon colors could be seen. Some models on the Moschino catwalk had pink and blue colored skin.Like strange aliens but with the famous “Jacky Kennedy 50ties Look” hairstyles. In the videos you can admire the great clothes and bags and be inspired by the looks that are “out of this world”.
