Hamburg is a city of fashion in Germany. In addition to Berlin and Munich, you’ll meet some celebrities in the Hanseatic city at the right place at the right time. Whether shopping on Jungfernstieg, Mönkebergstrasse or luxuriously on Neuer Wall, at one of the hippest fashion events in Hamburg, during an interesting fashion exhibition, or at celebrations in the exclusive clubs in Hamburg, one thing quickly becomes clear: Hamburgers have a flair for fashion and like to show this with the help of noble brands.

Lets get chic – fashion shows, workshops & more

The fashion event in Hamburg “let’s get chic” offers exhibitions from the areas of fashion, accessories, beauty & more as well as spectacular fashion shows of new designer collections in the location “Uni Hamburg”. In addition to the presentations and exhibitions, stylists and make-up artists will offer workshops on new trend styles of the season. So that women can enjoy the day in peace and quiet in the 7th fashion heaven, there are also so-called “men’s corners” at the Hamburg fashion event instead of a children’s paradise. Instead of bouncy castles, the male companions, who are less interested in fashion, can make new acquaintances at the table, challenge themselves to a round of FIFA on the Playstation or crown the day with a few snacks and drinks.

Fashion Event at the Star Hill – Fashion@Home Event Brigitte

The “Fashion@Home” fashion event in Hamburg, organised by the renowned women’s magazine Brigitte, combines the feel-good atmosphere of your living room with the glamour and glamour of the fashion industry and “geitüpfelt” with a few guests from the prominent scene. The location, the fashion loft in the Sternschanze, convinces with its young, exciting and exclusive ambience. The concept of the event: A perfect mix of fashion and music event with exciting show interludes and tasty snacks in a cosy atmosphere – glamour and enjoyment at ease. Similar to a beauty contest, the models not only present the latest fashion highlights, but also entertain the guests with vocal or dance performances. A prominent “coffee klatsch” of a slightly different kind – under the sign of fashion, whereby the so-called “living room” functions as a catwalk and the “guests” become part of the fashion spectacle.

Museum of Arts & Crafts – Exhibition Department Fashion

The Museum of Arts & Crafts in Hamburg boasts an impressive collection of fashion treasures. More than 10,000 unique items from women’s, men’s and children’s collections. The “red thread” of the exhibition in Hamburg: a documentation of the development of fashion history from the middle of the 18th century to the present day. Designer fashion by some well-known designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Wolfgang Joop or Alexander McQueen shape the collection. From haute couture, to pret-a-porter, from avant-garde fashion to fashion that was shaped by Antwerp, everything is united in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. A fashion journey through different epochs, styles and traditions. The presentations change in various special exhibitions.

Party in Hamburg – Celebrating after the event in Hamburg

After the various fashion events in Hamburg, from fashion shows to workshops to exhibitions, those who are not tired of glamour and glamour can end the evening in exclusive clubs such as the Golden Cut or the Moondoo or visit one of the successful musicals such as “King of the Lions” or “The Miracle of Bern”. In addition to fashion, an exclusive lifestyle and the Port of Hamburg, the city in the north of Germany is known for another thing: celebrating in Hamburg on the Reeperbahn. Those who want to get to know the “typical Hamburg” better can visit the Reeperbahn in St. Pauli after sunset. Fashionable highlights, such as the shrill, colourful costumes in a travesty show in the Olivia Jones Bar on the Great Freedom, can also be admired here.

Berlin Fashion Week 2016 – Model Manager: Behind the scenes

Twice a year the fashion industry is drawn to the capital for Berlin Fashion Week. While visitors and the media are mainly interested in shows, buyers and managers from various stores and fashion houses meet at Berlin’s fashion fairs. They all take place parallel to the different fashion shows. In 2016, public events focused primarily on two locations: The “Runway”, beautifully located at the Brandenburg Gate and the “Stage”, Berlin Mitte and easily accessible by shuttle bus from the “Runway”. From Monday to Saturday the motto was: Fashion! Over ten shows, various side events and aftershow parties every day. There was something for everyone. Highlights this year included Marc Cain, Guido Maria Kretschmar, Anne Gorke, and many more. The absolute highlight, however, was the “Candy Fashion”, Key Looks by FashionID (Peek & Cloppenburg) with numerous looks from Esprit to comma; A hall full of cotton candy, sweets and style – but later more about the

Fashion Week Model Management – Preparations, Emails and Networking

For us as managers, Fashion Week naturally starts weeks before – in December. Work starts about six weeks before Fashion Week. In addition to the notebook, the smartphone is a constant companion. The first show packages will be released by the designers. A show package contains among other things the models’ sedcards, but also Polaroids and walking videos. Major modeling agencies are already making special efforts to get the coveted invitations – some even create special sedcards for this event. Why? Fashion Week represents the who is who of the fashion world. Those who can afford it are present here. Therefore it is important to start work early enough. The better the planning in advance, the smoother the castings, fittings and shows run!

While an agency is already rushing into travel plans, overnight stays and the organisation of appointments, the invitations to the castings are gradually coming in. As mentioned above, about fifty individual shows will take place during Fashion Week. This means that there are almost as many model casings in Berlin in advance. A real job.

Models, catwalk training, print sedcards – preparation is half the battle

For us there were almost thirty interesting casting dates this season. We had 10 of our New Faces & catwalk models on site. Just arrived, the rented AirBnB apartment is already being converted into an office for the team. Notebooks, smartphones, casting lists – so that we can work and coordinate perfectly in Berlin, directly from Potsdamer Platz. Advantage: Digital company! We can work anytime and anywhere, so we like to accompany our models on shows and shootings.

We have four days! From notebook to reflex camera, we have everything in our luggage. Monday starts Fashion Week and a few days before, the castings. Most of the Berlin Fashion Week castings take place in the hotels, Berlin Mitte. Anyone who has ever been to a casting knows that many models are coming. Mostly there are even hundreds from all over Germany and partly Europe. Each casting takes place in separate floors and rooms. Immediately after the entrance the first beats form in front of the rooms – from now on it’s time to wait until you can stand in front of the jury. Suddenly the huge hotel lobby is full of people, small suitcases and waiting looks.

Day 1: Arrival and the first casting plans for the shows

Friday 15.01.2015: The Berlin Fashion Week AW 2016 always consists of two parts, the castings and the shows. For spectators often only the important days with the big shows count. For models, however, the days before are crucial. Here, before Fashion Week, model castings for shows and fashion shows take place throughout the city centre. Hundreds of models gather in the capital’s large hotels, but also in showrooms, Ateiliers and agencies. All major agencies are present here. Fashion Week does not only mean prestige, you can make excellent contacts and get to know a lot of new things. The Berlin flair also gives the Fashion Week its unique character. Many models book into the hotels around the city centre. This makes the castings easier to reach and also in the evening there is some time to have a drink with friends or new acquaintances.

Day 2: casting, casting, casting

Saturday 16.01.2015: For four days models and fashion agents speed through the city centre. Everyone is looking for the best jobs and the biggest shows. In the bag are only the most important things, the smartphone is always ready to hand and from morning to evening it goes from casting to casting. While there is a lot of walking during the day, the evening is decisive for the planning of the next day. Which casting should you attend first and which last? Where to find good food quickly and easily? Besides, you have small talk with other models, get more castings. Four days is all about seeing and being seen!

Who knows Castings of Germanys Next Topmodel will be surprised. There is no big stage, no spotlights and only rarely cameras. As a model you have hardly any time, not ten minutes, maximum thirty seconds. Who convinces spontaneously, is often still briefly measured or sent directly to a fast fitting. The jury consists of three or four people who have to evaluate hundreds of people according to purely external criteria within a few hours. As a result, castings often seem impersonal, but this is purely due to time.

The castings usually take place in large city centre hotels, with large rooms and plenty of space for hundreds of models waiting for their Gosee. Small groups are always forming in the waiting rooms, everyone is waiting for the casting call, then the show starts. With the model book and sedcard, the jury is made up mostly of designers, marketing people or other media and production people. Usually there are three or four people. The model walks up to the jury and introduces himself, often with very little time, many only seconds. Many models see here for the first time how big and how strong the competition is in their own and in other model agencies.

Those who have convinced often get a call from their model agent the same evening with the confirmation. Especially good models are also quickly booked so that they are still available for their own fashion show. So the best Mdoels have their success experiences already early – if they did not have first a Direct Booking.

The time in the casting requires a lot of commitment, organisational talent and willpower from the models. Even after the sixth performance on one day you still have to laugh and enjoy your job – even if there were six cancellations before. With this know-how, however, models can learn a lot for jobs and also strengthen their own self-confidence as well as their own perception. The short, but very intense situation with hundreds of other models, shows many a realistic picture and spurs them on to do even more.

The first castings for the shows start Thursday/Friday and then run until Monday evening. Occasionally, however, castings are also carried out before and even during the current Fashion Week. So if you are thinking of joining us as a model, you should plan ten days off.

  • Castings you get almost only with a large, serious model agency or an experienced model agent
  • Show castings go from Thursday to Monday
  • Berlin Fashion Week from Tuesday to Saturday
  • So as a model you should plan on 10 days
  • At least Thursday to Tuesday

Fashion Week Castings and decision of fashion designers

Many designers or agencies usually make their decision on the same day. They will then contact you via all channels to secure the best models. Because every fashion show includes a fitting and calltime. During fitting, clothes are tried on the models, which is usually very quick and only takes thirty minutes. The call time is then, so to speak, the start of work on the show day. All models, brand-up artists and stylists gather at calltime. All models get their assigned clothes as well as their styling. The calltime is therefore often a few hours before the show so that all models are guaranteed to be ready and the show can start on time.

  • Big competition: hundreds of great models meet each other
  • Often there is little time left for individual castings
  • Don’t forget your sedcard

The Fashion Week is much more than castings and shows. At Berlin Fashion Week, thousands of buyers from all over Germany come together in the various order fairs, less spectacularly and media-wise. Whether Panorama, Preium or Seek. Outside the shows there is also a lot to experience for people from the fashion industry.

Order and Fair – the heart of Fashion Week

For many outsiders, Fashion Week means above all shows! Fashion shows are held daily at various locations. In 2016 (Autumn/Winter) everything will focus on the collections of the coming Spring/Summer season. While snow still lies outside in the streets of Berlin, buyers jump from fair to fair to cover themselves with the latest trends.

One of the major order fairs is the international fashion fair “Premium”. At hundreds of stands, merchants crowd together large and well-known brands. Buyers can view and order the latest samples directly here. The fair is only open to trade visitors, so fortunately you have enough space to concentrate on different looks, cuts and colours. While strolling from hall to hall on the Premium, there are small delicacies, coffee and also small and large highlights of the exhibitors all along the edge. Not only fashion, but also accessories and jewellery. At the “Premium”, the manufacturers even fill their own hall. Further fashion fairs can be found all over Berlin. Among other things, there are still the “Seek” and “Panorama”, all only a few underground or suburban train stations apart.

Fittings for the big fashion shows at the runway

For model agents and model agencies, the final phase is now underway. It takes less than an hour to recharge your phone. While Desigenr’s assistants call to request models, models request the first fitting and call times and in parallel the first confirmations must be sent via e-mail. The phone doesn’t stop for three days and as a manager it’s hard to get away from the notebook. Therefore the show list fills up, confirmation for confirmation. Models receive asap their information and designers the booking confirmation. Even on Monday evening, plans are still being made for the coming morning – and off we go: It’s Fashion Week!

Shows and events at Fashion Week

From Tuesday to Saturday there are now possible shows and aftershow parties of the designers. Ten designers will kick off on Tuesday. Already on the first day it became clear that there would only be a free minute again at the end of Fashion Week. Our first show this year was “Ivanman” on the “Stage” in the me Collectors Room. Early in the morning, 11 o’clock. Already last season Ivanman made a top start. Oh, this year. Immediately afterwards we went on with “Nobi Talai” in Berlin’s Kronprinzenpalai with our Yulha. Followed by a very floral show by the designer “Lena Hoschek”, perfectly arranged in one line from the place card to the stage. After that jump to the greenshowroom in the Postbahnhof, where our Alex had his first show, parallel Anne and David ran for Odeur at the “Runway” Brandenburger Tor. And the day was only half over – show after show it went on for the next four days.

Fortunately, we were not only allowed to run on the first show, also on Friday two of our models, Helena and Lisa, on the final show of “Ioana Ciolacu”. With creative make-up and strong pictures afterwards.

The big finale: Candy Fashion – KEY LOOKS Show by FashionID

The biggest highlight of the current fashion week took place on Saturday in a “small” circle of people. Top models, stars, agency and media representatives met at the KEY LOOKS Show from “FashionID” by “Peek & Cloppenburg”. The motto was “Candy Fashion”. The entire lobby of Fashion Week at the Brandenburg Gate was transformed into candy and cotton candy land – everything looked like a Katy Perry video. Really great staged by the set designer. Between cotton candy and human-sized lollipops there were cool, refined drinks at various bars, a great DJ and many little surprises and snacks. Almost two hundred people gathered left and right around the catwalk, which in turn was decorated with cotton candy at the entrance up to the ceiling, pink light and lollipops made the picture of “Candy Fashion” perfect.

At the beginning, eight models from a classic cotton candy wagon stood across the catwalk with sweet sugar threads. That put a smile on almost everyone’s face! Shortly thereafter, Showtime, the keylooks of the coming season, was available in all Peek & Cloppenburg stores and online on FashionID. With fashion by Esprit, Marc Cain and Max&Co. Moderated by Annemarie Carpendale (Red and Taff on ProSieben). Each collection got its own music, its own staging for the audience. Our Johanna also attended and showed a total of three looks for the spring/summer season 2016, culminating in creative outsfits for the fashion magazines – each editorial team put together their favourite pieces from the new collections and combined them with accessories and other pieces. Thus, new creations and looks for 2016 were immediately lost.

BRAX Store Opening – Fashion Highlights with Gala, Douglas & Co.

Can I get you another snack? Small delicacies and creative invitations: We were guests at the BRAX Store Opening in Cologne, presented by Douglas and Gala. Among others Frauke Ludowig from RTL Exclusiv and we, Cocaine Models were there. The little who’s who of the Cologne fashion and media world. Here is our Recap for the BRAX Opening in Cologne:

BRAX Store Opening

Isn’t it true that it’s far too rare to get letters? About two weeks ago we had a really nice invitation in the mailbox. With fancy stationery and a personal invitation. Slightly glossy paper, modern packaged in a semi-transparent cover and with beautiful handwriting. So much trouble, then still in Cologne, one says gladly yes! That’s why we were particularly pleased about the elegant invitation to the store opening right from the start.

Fashion Highlights for Men & Buffet

Around 5 p.m. we locked all the doors in the office, smoothed our hair once more and set off. After a short stop at the Asian’s, we continued directly on the way to the city centre (Breite Straße 1). Even from a distance, the large structure could be seen in the Breite Straße. Even in front of the store were large headlights, flash systems and various photographers. Of course, behind the red carpet there was also the obligatory photo screen with all important sponsors of the evening, including Douglas and the gala. After the friendly security man let us on the red carpet, we were also intercepted directly by the BRAX manager: Photos! Let’s go… a few poses for the gala and pure 200 square meters of fashion for ladies & gentlemen.

The Location

So after we posted well and passed the start with flying colours, nothing could go wrong anymore. Closing time. Network. Red wine. We quickly went on to the BRAX Store. Since there were already some people there, it was relatively full. Nevertheless, one thing immediately catches the eye: chic, elegant and stylishly furnished – was my first thought! About 60 invited guests gathered on the first and second floors of the new fashion store. Below is a DJ house and relaxed lounge music, behind him are shirts and polo shirts neatly sorted on the shelves. Women in colourful cocktail dresses are also entertaining themselves. Most male guests are in suits, classic, grey/black. To the left and right of us are small snacks, aperitifs and wine. Everything that belongs to a good shop opening. After a hard day’s work, everyone here is happy to relax a little, chat with colleagues and stroll comfortably through the new store.

The Highlights

BRAX has really come up with a lot, from high-quality letterhead with individual invitation lettering to your own Gala Magazine cover. Snacks for the guests (… and we all know that love goes through the stomach). Of course not only we from Cocaine Models were there, but also a few other people from radio and media. Among other things, Cologne actors were present and of course one thing should not be missing at fashion events in Cologne: The RTL Exclusiv Team. And so Frauke Ludowig and Kena Amoa were guests in the evening. The collections in the store are well chosen and mature. Just as beautifully draped for a first glance – so close to opening.

On the second floor there was a very special highlight…

Photo shooting with the gala

So that every guest at the BRAX Opening can take something special home – of course also in their own model or advertising agency – a special highlight was placed on the second floor of the store! An extra photographer with canvas, flash systems & Co. The highlight: Each team could pose once for a gala cover. In only two minutes the covers were edited, cut and printed. Presented with a chic folder it was a really great idea! There was also a Douglas “refreshment stand” where you could try out all the new fragrances, from Hugo Boss to Gucci. We teamed up with some actors from the TV series “Alles was zählt” (RTL) and tried and found some great new perfume creations (but we don’t want to advertise here).

Only a few minutes later we took our Gala Magazine cover in hand and returned to the first floor of the store. Also here there was a lot to see, besides the DJ of course countless outfits, trousers, shirts and ties for the coming season. Isn’t it said, pictures say more than a thousand words? So here are a few impressions from the big store opening in Cologne:

BRAX – now in Cologne

There is now fashion for men and women on two floors with the latest trends and styles. BRAX in Cologne is easy to find, only a few minutes’ walk from the main station or from the nearby Appellhofplatz underground station. It is located in the centre of Cologne and can be easily reached by foot or subway. We wish you much success and thank BRAX for the cordial invitation.

The next date has already been set. Friday we go to Frankfurt am Main to see the Escada summer / autumn collection for the year 2015. Of course we will also take some pictures at the Escada fashion show!

Berlin Fashion Week: Shows, Dates and… Invitation?

Soon it will be time again and all model agencies and models will meet again in Berlin! The Fashionweek is coming up and invites to the big summer party. For a week, the German capital is turning back into a fashion Mecca. Many know the big shows of German designers from fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle or Harper’s Bazaar. Away from the mainstage there is also much else to discover, e.g. the Berlin Fashion Salon. But also the meeting places of the Be-to-Be economy. What does that mean? But let’s start with the basics!

+ Berlin + Munich + Cologne | Model Castings in February 2019

Why is Berlin Fashion Week?

Fashion changes so fast! Almost every month there is a new collection and new parts hang in the shop windows in the city centres, and there are always new highlights in online shops. All big chains but also all boutiques have to get their clothes from somewhere. Usually you visit a designer and look at the clothes in the showroom. Showrooms are therefore also one of the most frequent jobs for young models. Here you present the designer’s new fashion collections directly to the body, in front of a small audience, with only designers, someone from marketing and the customer. The customer can view the cuts directly, but also the fits and materials. Of course this way is relatively complex, because every single boutique owner has to come to the customer, needs a single appointment, a model and so there is a lot of effort. Berlin Fashion Week has exhibition halls with various themes, trend fashions, wedding fashions and oversizes. Hundreds of designers and producers position themselves at every trade fair. For one week trade visitors can inform themselves here about the latest collections and pieces. You can not only see the individual samples live, but also models who can present individual parts are booked on each stand. This is the main business of Berlin Fashion Week!

Fashion Designers Meet Customers

From the prêt-à-porter to the curvy, customers will find everything they need for their fashion boutiques and shops. Berlin will thus occupy the trends in German fashion boutiques for a few weeks. Of course, not only boutiques stop by, larger fashion chains also send their scouts out to discover trends. Hundreds of designers are lined up next to each other on each stand at each trade fair. There is a lot to discover here, i.e. fabrics and cuts that have been separated but also completely new ideas as well as Function Wear. The fashion industry never stands still and that’s why we meet for Fashion Week, whether in London, Paris, Milan, New York or Berlin to discover the latest trends. And when you meet, there are always others, of course. YouTube, Instagram Stars, Press, Stars and Starlets. For one week, the Who’s Who of the fashion and media world will meet in Berlin.

How many fashion shows are there at Berlin Fashion Week?

There are two different sections among the various fashion shows. One stage deals with the main shows. This is where the great German designers meet to present their new collections to a large audience. Not only normal guests are invited to these fashion shows, but also VIPs, YouTuber, Instagramer, press representatives and stars as well as actors, footballers or even musicians. On this mainstage there are usually eight shows per day over 5 days. From Monday to Friday you have the possibility to have a look at the new collections. On Saturday there will also be a big highlight, the audience and the tickets are of course strictly limited and not for sale.

In addition to the main stage, there are also 2.3 side stages where there are smaller shows by young designers. These include, for example, the Berlin Fashion Salon, where you can particularly look forward to new designers. That’s why there is also the Ethical Fashion Show. It runs parallel to the mainstage for 5 days and shows in particular fashion labels that focus on sustainability. These are the two different areas, the mainstage and the different side stages.

Show Highlights 2018 (Spring)

Marc Cain Fall / Winter 2018

RIANI Fall / Winter 2018

How to get tickets for Berlin Fashion Week?

It’s extremely hard to get tickets for the mainstage, of course designers prefer Instagram Stars or Youtuber, who can report directly and directly about the collections. Press representatives and magazines are increasingly receding into the background, but also stars and VIPs. If you want a ticket, you need good contacts and a contact person at the respective designer or his advertising or PR agency. But it is very difficult to get such tickets!

For the other side shows of Berlin Fashion Week it is also difficult to get tickets but a little easier. For example, if you have an Instagram account with at least 40,000 or 50,000 fans, you can get one or two tickets. The magic word here is accreditation. However, you should take care of it early, as well you should only try if you have something to offer in exchange for the coveted places.
How many people are at a fashion show in Berlin?

The tickets are of course strictly limited, so there is not much space. That is clear but how little space actually? The main show of Berlin Fashion Week usually comprises a maximum of 150 people. Each show can now accommodate 150 guests. This sounds like a lot of space at first, if you count sponsors, people from the team or partners, as well as buyers who buy larger quantities, then only 100 seats are left. These 100 places have to be distributed to stars you work with, instagramers you already work with, model agencies provide the models and so on! In the end there may be 80 tickets left for the invitation, for the whole of Germany but also for international guests.

So the space conditions are very tight, on the side stages it often gets even tighter. In the Berlin Fashion Salon there are shows in which only 30 or 40 guests take part. Is that what you thought? That’s why invitations to the shows are so popular!

Do international designers appear in Berlin?

You won’t meet many international designers at Berlin Fashion Week, Marc Cain is usually on site, but that’s the big international highlight! In Berlin he meets the top German designers, fashion labels RIANI and Dorothee Schumacher.

In which location will Berlin Fashion Week take place?

The designers’ shows take place in various locations in the city, a few years ago at the Brandenburg Gate in a specially constructed large tent with its own lounge and many conveniences, then in the Jandorf department store and this year for the first time in Berlin’s E-Werk.

Modeling at a fashion show? If you want to work as a model at one of the fashion shows yourself, you have to take part in the castings. The casting dates, especially for the great designers, are of course kept strictly under lock and key. Here only the big model agencies should participate, so that on the day of the decision one really has only the best candidates locally. There is not much time for the preparation in Berlin, as an agency or team you usually have 7 to 10 days to find the best models, to familiarize yourself with the location, to prepare all clothes and if necessary also to make changes if something is spontaneous. Therefore, the castings are usually not conducted publicly. With smaller labels, however, you are sometimes lucky as a model without a model agency. Because some of your castings are held in public, why is that? Of course, the great designers don’t necessarily need additional advertising, they already have other concepts for that. Smaller designers, e.g. from Berlin, would be happy to receive a little extra attention for your fashion label. That’s why some model castings are made public.
Berlin, Paris, London, New York, what is most worthwhile?

The concepts and the presentation are of course the most extravagant in Paris and New York! If you’ve experienced one like this here, Berlin will soon seem relatively small to you. Especially in Paris big shows are traditionally done. Everyone knows the famous productions for Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, trend-setting with robots – in the supermarket or in the forest, every kind of production is feasible. In Berlin the scales are a bit smaller, here you have two or three locations, which are usually not specially prepared, the focus is on fashion. Of course, this has its very own charm. Fashion Week is not only important to see new clothes, but also to network and meet again.
Chanel Fall / Winter 2018 in Paris

Here you see the difference to Berlin, Paris, absolute highlight!

What is there to experience besides the fashion shows?

In the streets of Berlin, especially in the city centre, you will find a lot of events that take place parallel to Fashion Week. For example, there are great parties at the House of Weekend, one of the rooftop bars in Berlin. Not only cash, but also club! A truly unique experience for Berlin. If you are an agent at a model agency or a model at Fashion Week in the summer, it is also worth taking a look into the great crested diver, just a few metres from Warsaw Street. In the Great Crested Grebe you not only have a club but also a huge pool. Especially in the hot summer days, the cooling in the evening is perfect here. But there are also smaller events and parties, from DJs to barbecues. Of course you have not only the time to visit events in the evening, but also many events in the night. Magazine Parties in clubs, private parties in larger houses but also designer events, often with celebrity singers who present new songs for an invited audience. From a cosy barbecue to a magazine party you can experience so much in Berlin. Many dates can be found on the official site of the would Fashion Week but also always in our fashion blog!

Fashion show agency – planning and presentation of high quality fashion

Fashion Show Agency – Before a fashion show can take place in Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, a lot has to be planned and organized. Every fashion show is unique – we as an agency make sure that nothing goes wrong during the expiration. The designers and organizers contacted months before the event, planning everything down to the last detail, then adding PR agencies and finally the big day is coming. Everything is there: customers, bloggers, editors, models and media representatives. In order for everything to be perfect, even in the marketing after the fashion show, some aspects of the agency must be taken into account. If you have not planned or even visited any fashion show yourself, you will find here all the important cornerstones for planning a fashion show with the help of a renowned agency – like CM! !

As a rule, every fashion show focuses on a few key points! At the end of the article you will find a complete checklist (do it yourself).

  1. Needed List – All details of planning / PR / Show in bullet points
  2. Model Casting – The perfect models and measurements for the fashion collection
  3. Choreography – a detailed planning of the individual “pictures” (scenes)
  4. Public Relation – We inspire the right people from the label
  5. Rehearsal – final dress rehearsal for all models of the fashion show
  6. Fashion Show – The big moment for fashion designers
  7. Press work – After the show is before the show!

Fashion Show Agency: We are planning the perfect staging of fashion

First of all, let’s take a more general look at what the most important points of a fashion show are and answer the question of why an agency is extremely helpful in planning and what should be considered in the first concept?

Why should I hire an agency for my fashion show / that of a client?
A fashion show is an extensive media event, so when planning for a fashion show must be thought of a lot. Besides the models, the location and the designer fashion, other elements play an important role. From music to lighting to guest service, there are a few things that can make a fashion show a complete success. One thing is especially important here: A fashion show has to convey a unified picture in which customers, bloggers, media representatives … evoke corresponding emotions among all guests as the models step across the catwalk with the new fashion collection.

Each planning is composed of different factors, small and large. Organizing a fashion show is not that easy. Depending on the complexity of the project or the customer’s requirements, the organization stretches for days or even months in the run-up to a fashion show, when, for example, even complex stage sets are added. It’s about much more than just the show, it’s about: offer creation, organization, possibly moderation, music editing, show-optimized, model booking, arrival and departure plan, nights (if necessary, desired), check fitting, Rehersal , Choreography, contracts, customer arrangements, dress rehearsal, schedules, schedules, clothing log, handover at the end, customer meetings, interface model / customer, etc.

The new fashion collection on the catwalk

1. Needed List – All details of planning / PR / Show in bullet points

What does an agency have to consider in the concept for a fashion show? Together with the client, the agents of the fashion show agency create a so-called “needed” list (in short, a classic requirement or todo list). In this first briefing, all important points are noted that are necessary for a successful fashion show in the sense of the customer, for example, a designer, advertising agencies or the PR agency. When all the points are neatly recorded and details such as catering and rehearsal room have been considered, we work as agency of our Kick Off Meeting for the show. Thereupon, the consultation, tailored exactly to the customer, takes place in person or on the telephone. In this much more defined, the models, the selection of music, the staging of the show regarding styling and choreography, rehearsals, castings and much more discussed.

This individual consultation varies, as described above, in intensity depending on the customer’s budget. After the consultation, we sat as a fashion show agency to the creation of the show concept and its presentation.

2. Model Casting – The perfect models and measurements for the fashion collection

Only after the presentation, the selection and the occupation of the models begin. Either an open casting begins, but usually a casting with preselection of the models. (Casting invitations are only for models that correspond to the corresponding type.) Following is a fitting of the models instead. Here, the selected models try on the collection outfits and the individual stylings are adjusted exactly, usually by a fashion show agency stylist or a specially commissioned stylist. The agency also takes care of the music and adapts it. More about the perfect casting process here: Casting Agency.

3. Choreography – A detailed planning of the individual “pictures” (scenes) with music

As a rule, the fashion show agency also takes care of the fashion show music, in some cases the customer also takes care of it himself. The music cut will be presented, the beats will be taken care of by the DJ and adapted to the choreography of the fashion show. This is important because the overall staging of the fashion show must finally be consistent. Music is generally very elemantar for a successful fashion show, because music conveys emotions and a certain atmosphere that influences the entire show. On Youtube are already optimally put together playlists for catwalks and fashion show videos. More about the different running styles can be found in the article: Haute Couture & Pret-a-Porter.

The choreographer designs “pictures”. That is, he worries about how the models act on the fashion show. It makes a big difference whether it is for example Haute Couture & Pret-a-Porter or a fitness fashion show in the context of a sports fair. Depending on the environment, location, audience and customer, individual scenes are created that optimally present the fashion collection. The show must be staged excitingly, so that the audience, no matter whether row 1 or row 8 are enthusiastic and then talk about fashion.

Preparing a fashion show: planning, marketing and PR

4. Public Relation – We inspire the right people from the label

When planning a fashion show, the organizer (agency or Do It Yourself) should clarify some questions in advance. For a perfect fashion show, possible problems in advance should be weakened, so that the designer and his helpers can devote themselves explicitly to their own tasks on the big day.

First, an exact date for the fashion show should be planned. It should be noted that on the desired day, no other major event takes place in the area. Otherwise it could come to a competition and potential buyers of the fashion show do not appear for time reasons or priority setting for the fashion show. The holidays and vacation time should not be ignored! A calculation should be made as to which times most visitors are expected, similar to the TV ratings. The function of the press work must be secured, that is: when, where and to what extent should be reported on the fashion show. Further advertising measures, such as poster advertising or similar, must be considered and the invitations organized and printed. The question is raised as to which people receive an invitation or are placed on the guest list.

We recommend to organize such big events always with a lead time of at least 4 months. There is enough time to invite important people like VIPs, bloggers and media representatives.

The show – location & guests of the fashion show

The target group of the fashion show and thus the presented collections must be clearly defined. For booking the location, the maximum number of visitors should be determined. The location should be tailored to the fashion designer and the style of his fashion collections. The designer’s vision is conveyed not only by the actual collection presented, but also by the atmosphere of the location. An elegant red carpet design, for example, fits better in an exquisite noble location than in an urban underground club. The technical equipment must be checked, so that not only on the day of the fashion show defects are detected. The staff must be booked, for example, for drinks, the music system, lighting technology or the cloakroom. Finally, it must be thought out how the cards come to the guest. Say: Is there a ticket sales, invitations or reservation options? And how are the guests informed about the various purchase options? In addition, seats must be reserved for the press and photographers must be given opportunities to take organized photos.

Directions & Reception – Welcome to the fashion show

During the selection of the location it has to be clarified, which possibilities there are for the audience, to reach the location. Say: Is there enough parking? What is the connection with public transport? The reception is an important entry point for the entire event at fashion shows. Here the guests notice if the fashion show was well organized. Each guest must be welcomed exclusively, for example in the form of a sparkling wine in the foyer and a clue to the wardrobe. When international guests arrive, the welcome and moderation will have to be in different languages, at least in English. The duration of the moderation should be adapted in advance perfectly to the show and the vision of the designer.

5. Rehearsal – final dress rehearsal for all models of the fashion show

Duration & Models – casting, choreography and running sequence

Of course, the fashion show must be timed in advance, that is, the fashion show is structured and set the duration. The structure provides a benchmark to which all stakeholders should adhere. Of course, there may be deviations. The number of outfits to be presented and the models will be worked out and adapted to the duration of the fashion show. It creates a concept. Weeks before the fashion show usually takes place a big model casting. The models are selected under certain criteria. Shortly after the fashion show, the so-called fitting takes place. The models try on the different outfits from the collection to be presented. It is determined which model presents which outfit. When this is clarified, the models begin to train the desired choreography and running sequence. Each model can present different outfits from the collection on the catwalk. The time in which models can move in the backstage area is calculated, usually everything has to go very fast. The choreography on the catwalk is determined in advance and rehearsed. Make-up artists, stylists and dresser are organized.

Continuing Organization – The General Rehearsal for Management

After the fashion show is over, guests will wonder if and where they can purchase the designs shown. When organizing the fashion show, these issues should be clarified. Does a sale take place after the fashion show? How are the guests informed? Are there enough fitting possibilities? How should the process be?

6th fashion show – The big moment for fashion designers

The process of the show – from the opening to the end

In a fashion show, the selected models enter the catwalk in a certain order, after a certain choreography. The designer can develop freely, there are no requirements, only a general framework serves as a guide. The opening model is of great importance to the designer. The first impression of the fashion collections of the designer on the audience counts and shapes the whole, following show! Likewise, the graduation model acts as an important element of the fashion show. This usually presents the highlight of the designer collection. In the audience sit the press, buyers and celebrities, as well as fashion bloggers or fashion-enthusiastic spectators. Each model presents at least one outfit on the stage, mostly followed by several. For this, the models have to be fast, because the outfit has to be changed behind the stage under time pressure. The choreography must not be interrupted. On the catwalk, the models can not stand the backstage stress, they walk unimpressed and resting on the catwalk.

7. Press Relations – After the show is before the show!

Now it starts, PR! Ideally, detailed lists with contacts to press representatives and PR agencies should be known in advance. These contacts should be provided with photos, texts and, if possible, videos right on the day or the day after. Because the magic of a fashion show can quickly go out when the next big fashion week starts in Milan, New York or Paris. The easiest way is to place your own fashion show in online magazines. It gets a bit harder to get into big magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar & Co. Therefore, it is advisable to approach not only the planning of the fashion show months in advance, but also the PR planning for the fashion show!

Haute Couture & Pret-a-Porter – Running styles of a fashion show

In a fashion show on the catwalk, which is also called Catwalk, presented the new collections of a designer of models. A distinction is made between haute couture fashion and pret-a-porter fashion. Haute Couture comes from France and means literally superior cutting art. In fashion jargon extravagant, individual and high-quality fashion creations by a designer haute couture are called. The haute couture fashion pieces of a designer are the gems of a designer, they are not suitable for everyday use, haute couture is true art that models present on the catwalk. Haute Couture serves the very special appearance. The more valuable the materials used, the higher the price. There is no limit. In contrast to haute couture, there are Pret-a-Porter collections. pret-a-Porter Fashion also comes from France and means “ready to wear”, a fashion that can be worn in everyday life. The fashion collections are available in retail outlets, including department store chains. The designers have created the pieces not only as an art object for the catwalk, but the fashion collections should come to the man or the woman. The price is different, it also comes here to price differences, however, the price is in the average range in the middle class and is affordable. Co-founder of this type of fashion line is Pierre Cardin.

What is Pret-a-Porter exactly?

Pret-a-Porter fashion, also known as ready-to-wear fashion, describes the ready-made, ie not tailor-made, fashion collections of designers and labels. Ready-made fashion is one that we find in retail in various, fixed sizes on the shelves. (Example size 38 or M) Earlier, the fashion industry was horrified at the first catwalk presentations by designer Pret-a-Porter collections – not tailor-made = not exclusive! Quite normal in the modern world – at Fashion Weeks all over the world, the designer’s Pret-a-Porter collections are admired and celebrated. For the designers themselves, the Pret-a-Porter collections are extremely important in addition to haute couture, because the ready-to-wear fashion boosts the marketing of designers enormously. In public, the label builds its image and sets trends that can really be worn! Of course, also among the Pret-a-Porter collections are fashion highlights that only very bold fashionistas REALLY wear on the street – here too: The designer wants to attract attention, to keep in conversation and in the memory of fashion specialists.

Where did Pret-a-Porter come from?

Yves-Saint-Laurent caused a stir in the 60’s as one of the first known designers on the catwalk with his Pret-a-Porter collection. But who “invented” Pret-a-Porter? The Italian designer Pierre Cardin developed the fashion art Pret-a-Porter.

Pierre Cardin – His way to the designer of Pret-a-Porter fashion

Pierre Cardin was born in Italy in 1922. In 1945 he moved from Italy to France, Paris. He began his career in the fashion industry as a fashion designer at Paquin. He developed the costumes for the movie “Beauty and the Beast”. In 1947, the talented Italian moved to the designer label “Dior”. Three years later he started his own label and developed Pret-a-Porter Mode. In 1953, his first fashion collection for women appeared in 1957 followed by the men’s collection.

The seasons of Pret-a-Porter fashion worldwide

The designers’ Pret-a-Porter collections are presented on the runway during two fashion seasons, once in spring / summer and once in autumn / winter – the classic fashion seasons. The presentations of the Pret-a-Porter fashion take place at fashion weeks in the fashion capitals of New York, Milan, London and Paris. But also in the adolescent fashion cities of Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam and other cities, the collection presentations of the designers, both established designers and celebrated New Comer, take place twice a year at the corresponding seasons in the beginning and middle of the year.

Excursus: The interim seasons

Only twice a year, so every six months, fashion on the runways of fashion metropolises? Unthinkable – no one can stand it! I agree. That’s why, in addition to the main seasons, tadaaa, there are various interim seasons.

Resort – Fashion Collections

In February, the new Pret-a-Porter pieces by the designers regularly hang in stores. Already in November, the interim season for resort fashion begins. Since every fashion fan can look forward to the summer and anticipate the new trends.

Cruise – fashion collections

Cruise, as the name suggests, are fashion collections for the travel-mad fashion fans. Cruise is a sub-category of resort-fashion, specializing in jet-set customers who escape the winter and roast in the sun in December. In the past, this was especially typical of the richer society that enjoyed cruising to warmer regions during the winter months. Hence the name “Cruise” in the style of “cruise”. Today, “Cruise” is part of the resort collection, it is hardly differentiated.

Pre-Fall – Fashion Collections

The counterpart to the more summery Pret-a-Porter Resort collection, is the autumn-winter Pret-a-Porter Pre-fall collection. This comes in July in the shops. Customers enjoy new designs for fall and winter, mostly made of lighter fabrics.

Capsule Collection Fashion

Capsule Collection, a collection that can not really be assigned to any season. The “timeless” Pret-a-Porter fashion of the year. These collections are also called Special Editions and appear unexpected and not regular.

Haute couture at the fashion show – what exactly is that?

Haute couture is the “high society” of fashion collections by designers. The term comes from France and refers to the upscale designs of fashion designers from the top tier. Who belongs to the circle of Haute Couture designers, such as Chanel, Dior or Ellie Saab, decides the French fashion association “Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture”. The designers, also known as “couturiers”, must adhere to “strict” rules in order to defend their place in haute couture. The French fashion association sets rules and specifications so that the ranks of Coutuers remains exclusive. Elaborate, extravagant and in reality hardly wearable fashion, especially handcrafted, precious and luxurious dresses are part of haute couture. Another special feature of the impressive robes: Finest handwork! Of course, such a “unique” can hardly be a lesbian, only a very selected, narrow circle of the rich is one of the customer base for haute couture fashion. The price for a haute couture robe is dizzyingly high. One of the few places off the catwalk to marvel at haute couture fashion is the red carpet of very exclusive events, such as the Oscars. In contrast to the pure “art objects” of the haute couture of the past few years, some robes, dresses and now also trousers are quite “bearable” for upmarket events.

Where does haute couture fashion actually come from?

Haute couture comes from France in the mid-19th century. Charles Frederick Worth was the first, and thus the so-called founding father, to offer tailor-made and handcrafted, exclusive fashion according to his own designs. Until then, tailor-made products were manufactured exclusively according to the wishes of the customer. Worth made a turnaround in the fashion industry. Subsequently, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne joined together, a committee which today describes itself as a fashion association and still sets the rules in terms of haute couture. Only if the collection of a designer label is approved by this committee, the Desiger may present his Haute Couture line under this genre, on the couture shows of Fashion Weeks.

Alta Moda – haute couture from Italy

The Italian sister of French haute couture is the so-called “Alta Moda”. Unlike the term “haute couture”, the term “Alta Moda” is not protected and may be used freely among designers. In addition to Milan, there are also Alta Moda shows in Florence or Rome, there is no set schedule or fixed location for these fashion shows. The world-famous luxury designer duo of Dolce & Gabbana will be presenting their Alta Moda collections in Milan. In addition to established designers, New Comer will be presenting their collections to a wide audience in Rome during the Fashion Week.

Fashion Show – Various walk styles for the presentation of fashion

Two important running styles characterize the catwalk at fashion shows. The wording is different and depends on the choreographer. Roughly, the running styles are divided into the following two divisions.

Pret-à-Porter – casual walk for models

The Casual Walk is, in keeping with the collections, looser than the Design Walk. The models are allowed to slightly swing their hips, the upper body and the gaze need not be rigid. There is a friendly, motivating smile on the model’s face. At the end of the catwalk a posing takes place. The models seek eye contact with the audience. A wink, a kiss in the air or a sexy smile are allowed and welcome.

Haute Couture – Fashion / design walk of the upper class

When it comes to the design walk, the models really function as mannequins, that is, it’s all about the outfit. The look of the models is directed straight forward, no expression is distorted, no eye contact takes place. The shoulders are pulled back, the pelvis goes forward. The models try not to move their torso while running. At the end of the catwalk no posing takes place. The model should not distract from the collection of the designer, this is absolutely the focus.

Model measurements for catwalks and fashion shows

Fashion is always something special. Fashion lives on Being special! New fashion collections are regularly released by designers worldwide, every season. Not only major international fashion designers and retail chains are working. Even small fashion labels have to constantly present new designs and styles to their customers to gain their attention. So designers and fashion have to reinvent themselves time after time to stay interesting for consumers.

Shows in Milan, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and London

At the Fashion Weeks the new masterpieces are regularly presented. In Milan, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and London. In spring, summer, autumn and winter, people are always looking for new looks and trends. Almost all designers have one thing in common, they tailor their collections for tall, slender people as mentioned in every post to similar topics. The clothes are more elegant, fabrics unfold their full effect, everything looks more exclusive and high quality! Delicate figures make clothes and their possible price more expensive. Even if not all fashion brands work in this scheme, it’s the majority of the industry.

Dimensions for fashion show

Fashion shows and fashion presentations are subject to an unwritten standard. For female models, a dress size of 34 (maximum 34/36) with a height of 177-180 (176-181) cm is considered ideal at the beginning of the career. Your hip should be under 91cm. Men’s models usually have a clothing size of 48 (max 50/52) with a height of 185-192 cm. A tip here for men’s models: At the beginning of the career you should pay attention as a male model on a younger look. If you look too masculine in your early years as a model, you’ll quickly get a chance on jobs in the fashion industry and on casting. That’s why you should always go to Castings with a shaved beard as a male model in the first years.

Measure yourself!

These are the measurements points for your first modeling agency application. Take care, that you are totally honest. More about: Take your own measurements for agencies, castings and jobs.

Top Fashion Shows New York: Autumn / Winter 2017

Soon it’s time again! The big meeting of designers, new collections and a lot of press. From the 9th of September the fashion world in New York is upside down again. The first Fashion Week took place in New York in 1943 and was initiated by fashion journalist Eleanor Lambert. Thus, Fashion Week has been a long tradition for decades. Many fashion designers come and go with this tradition. Which designers have really shone last season and what makes them special here.

Best Shows Fashion Week New York: Autumn / Winter 2017

From classics like Chanel to newcomers like Victoria Beckham. Each designer has his own style. Whether sporty-chic, classic or extravagant. At Fashion Week New York Fall / Winter 2017 everything was back. Here are our favorites:

Alexander Wang – Chief Designer at Balenciaga

For American fashion designer Alexander Wang, one fashion show is more dramatic than the other. In his fall / winter collection 2017 he achieves a captivating mood through techno and a dark collection. Alexander Wang’s garments are known for their mix of grunge chic, minimalism and street style. Although the fashion designer started his career only since 2005, he can not be thought away from Fashion Weeks alongside Chanel and Gucci. In addition, Alexander Wang has also been chief designer at Balenciaga since 2008, which is why we assume that we can look forward to his pieces for a while!

Michael Kors – career since childhood

Since 1998, many women dream of owning a Michael Kors handbag. If it is not a bag, then it will be shoes, jewelry or watches. But beware, there are also men’s fashion! His collections, whether men or women, are characterized by a mixture of sportiness and elegance, the so-called “jet-set attitude” is the keyword here. Michael Kors himself has not only been seen on the scene since his fashion career, because even as a small child, the top designer was seen in several TV spots, such as for a cornflake brand. From show business to internationally recognized fashion designer!

Chanel with world-renowned chief designer Karl Lagerfeld

The eternal classic in fashion heaven. It all started in 1921 with the best-selling perfume “Chanel No. 5” to date. The little black girl was born 5 years later. With Karl Lagerfeld at the top of the team, new, timeless fashion is still being created from season to season. Many people even invest more in Chanel bags than in real estate, as their value increases every year. Particularly popular for this is the model “Flap Bag 2.55”.

Victoria Beckham with fashion for the modern woman

From music, to acting, to modeling and now also a designer. A true all-rounder! In her collections she tries to design fashion for every everyday situation – “Fashion has to be comfortable” is her motto. At the New York Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2017, she presented fashion for the modern woman. With a mix of classical music and techno she thrilled her audience with garments that also combine classic and modern elements. Victoria Beckham herself exchanged her Higheels for white sneakers, as they are much better suited for their stressful everyday lives with 4 children. A statement to all women!

Shooting Day! The everyday life of a photographer, make-up artist and model

From the catwalk to the studio for a photo shoot and then quickly to the after show party of an event. This is how many of the everyday lives of a model are presented. But how does a day really go? We will give you an insight into what a photo shoot looks like behind the scenes – with make-up artist, photographer, model and film crew.

10 am – time to shop: fashion in the center of Cologne

Oliver Rudolph meets with model Marie Dahmen in the city to get some clothes for the upcoming shoot. Through the already defined concept – in this case a beauty shoot – the things are carefully selected. “The focus should be on the face because it’s a beauty shoot, so we decided to wear a Turtleneck sweater, and we took a jacket with us to match the current metallic trend.”

Favorite look of Model Marie – Outfit by Zara

Shopping, Shooting, Styling – With fashion photographer Oliver Rudolph in the studio

13:30 – Arrival Studio: Makeup and set-up

Once in the studio, Oliver and his assistant set up the set; Marie is meanwhile made up by make-up artist Astrid Jerschitz. When asked what inspired her make-up look, she replies, “This is always discussed in advance with the team and today I would describe the look as fucked and glam-messy.” With Astrid we have already experienced many exciting days, also in the spring during the shoot with germanys national television RTL and Sat1. After the make-up comes the styling. When everything is ready, the first test shots are taken in the light. Then the make-up is overworked, until finally the first look sits and can be filmed. To do this, she experiments with the light and poses of Marie. “I’m trying to create a sunny mood, and the shadows on the screen make the sun shine through a window.”

16:30 – Look 2 is made up – glamorous and sophisticated

As the second look is made, I ask make-up artist Astrid what she loves about her work. “My job is working with new people every day and I like working in a team.” Model Marie joined the team in May 2015. “At first it was strange to stand in front of the camera, but that has turned into routine relatively quickly.” , so Marie. Look 2 – glamorous and sophisticated – sits and continues to shoot. At the same time, the film crew picks up small clips, which are then cut into a making-of-video.

7:00 pm – Set conversion and strengthening – Sushi in the studio

Between the conversion of the background and the make-up of the third make-up look, there is a quick sushi to strengthen. Then it goes on already. This time Marie is wearing a retro 90s look. At 9 pm it’s finally done for the model, photographer, film team and make-up artist – everything is in the box. Such an 11-hour working day is not uncommon. Add to that the image editing and the editing of the making-of-video.

Of course, the fashion and model industry offers interesting events, many new contacts and exciting shootings. But as you can see, many hours of work are behind the glamorous glow.

Last shoot with star make-up artist Astrid Jerschitz

Astrid Jerschitz is one of the best in her profession! Her clients include Lenny Kravitz, Bruce Willis, Shaggy, Dieter Bohlen, Andrea Berg, Vanessa Mai, Sophia Thomalla and Guido Maria Kretschmar.

Fashion shows at Fashion Week – The fashion capitals

Every big city has its own fashion week, in which various larger or smaller designers present their new fashion collections with models in staged shows. The first fashion week took place in New York City in the early 1940s. The former name of Fashion Week was “Press Week”. The audience at the fashion weeks of this world is different and ranges from buyers of big fashion chains to celebrities and fashion enthusiasts. The big fashion weeks take place, with the exception of twice a year. This allows designers to present their spring and summer collections, as well as their autumn and winter collections, to a wide audience and with great media effort. Among the world’s most influential fashion weeks are the so-called “Big Four”: New York, Paris, London and Milan.

Fashion Week – Start and course of fashion week

The fashion shows of well-known designers such as Marc Jacobs or Georgio Armani usually take 15 minutes, there are of course deviations. Every designer realizes his own visions with the fashion show. There is therefore no fixed sequence of the individual fashion shows. Most designers take a basic sequence for orientation. In every fashion show there is an opening model that is very important for the designer. The first impression of his fashion collections on the critical audience must be perfect. The models usually present several outfits and walk twice over the catwalk. There is a graduation model that is also of great importance to the designer. The highlight of the collection is intended to surprise and fascinate the audience at the end of the show. At the end of each fashion show the models run one after the other, together across the catwalk and show the audience their outfit once again.

Fashion Week New York – the “Who’s Who” of the fashion industry

Sitting in the front row of New York Fashion Week: A dream of many young girls! Whoever has made it here is an integral part of the fashion scene and belongs to the inner circle. Fashion Week in New York is one of the most exclusive and successful fashion weeks in the world. With this in mind, Fashion Week in the Big Apple opens Fashion Weeks every season as the first of the fashion capitals. While Bryant Park used to be the venue for the fashion shows, today the Lincoln Center is the fashion hot spot of New York Fashion Weeks. More than 50 main shows by well-known designers such as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors or Ralph Lauren inspire the audience in the Lincoln Center. In addition to the big fashion shows, there are numerous smaller fashion shows in galleries or other exclusive locations in Manhattan. Models present the new women’s and men’s collections, while painting and female-models walk the catwalk together to some extent. The number of visitors to DES Fashion-Event is in six digits. Fashion editors and fashion bloggers are competing for the coveted spots next to the catwalk.

Michael Kors Show – New York Fashion-Week Fall 2015

Fashion-Week Paris – the cream of women’s fashion

In addition to the New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week is also of great importance in the fashion scene. The Paris Fashion Week usually takes place last, after the fashion weeks of the other three fashion metropolises. The Fashion Week Paris programme includes more than 90 major fashion shows. Highlights include the fashion shows by Chanel, Dior and Alexander McQueen. The fashion collections of the designers exude a mysterious charm, a flair that makes Paris a very special fashion city. At the Fashion Week Pret-à-porter Fashion is presented for the most part. But even the popular haute couture is not missed out in Paris: at numerous evening events, fashion enthusiasts can watch the haute coutur shows. In Paris, haute couture, an upmarket art of tailoring, was born. Extravagant, high-quality, expensive and not suitable for everyday use. Fashion that is also interpreted as true art for outsiders. The haute couture elements of the fashion collections are the highlights of every designer. The development of haute couture was a triumph of fashion history and still shapes the fashion scene today. The idea for classic fashion shows as we know them today also originated in Paris. After an influential designer of the time, Mr. Charles Frederick Worth, opened several fashion houses in France, he began to have his collections presented by models. His vision: to present fashion in the best possible way. A marketing strategy that took off and became an achievement of the fashion industry.

Chanel Haute-Couture Show Fall-Winter 2015/ 16

Fashion Week London – famous and notorious

Fashion Weeks in London take place every year in February and September at the traditional and central Somerset House. The fashion shows are a highlight for London society. Fashion Week London is sponsored by Mercedes Benz and the well-known hairdressing chain Tony and Guy. During Fashion Week in London, trendy and exclusive fashion collections for men and women will be presented. Over 150 designers give their fashion collections a stage. Men don’t miss out in London: during the “London Collections Men” event, the new men’s fashion is presented. Following the London Fashion Weeks, the so-called “Fashion Weekend” takes place, which, unlike the Fashion Week, is open to the public and mainly serves retailers.

Fashion Week Milan – the city lives fashion

Italians can’t get enough of fashion. The Milan Fashion Week takes place four times a year. Milan is particularly well known for the fashion shows of its men’s collections. Milan is considered a fashion hot spot for men’s fashion. Every season the international fashion scene looks particularly to the men’s collections of the designers at Milan Fashion Week. The fashion shows for men’s collections take place in January and June. The women’s fashion is presented in February and September. Well-known designers such as Georgio Armani or Versace shape the fashion week in Milan.

Fashion Week Berlin – Fashion & Design in the capital

Although Berlin’s Fashion Week is not one of the “Big Four” of the fashion scene, it is also a fashion metropolis with a well-known and much-visited fashion week. Fashion Week in Berlin takes place in January and July. Collections from established designers such as Wolfgang Joop, Michael Michalsky or Hugo Boss as well as talented young designers and New Comers are presented on the catwalks. Mercedes-Benz sponsors Fashion Week Berlin. The fashion shows in Berlin are regarded as a springboard for the international success of young designers and are a colourful, fascinating spectacle every season. Fashion enthusiasts from all over Germany make a seasonal pilgrimage to Berlin, marvel at the fashion shows, discover new designers, find out about new trends and celebrate to the full.

Agency Model Coaching – personality and appearance for models

Personality. Posing. Catwalk. Sunday morning started our long prepared model coaching in our agency building in Cologne’s Mediapark. Two experienced model coaches, Lutz and Omega, supported our Cocaine Models team with personality coaching and catwalk training for the models. The response was great and our models were highly motivated to improve their skills. Michelle accompanied our models and gives a short insight into the exclusive model coaching.

Well structured model coaching

At half past nine our Cocaine Models team starts with the last preparations for the Model Coaching in the Mediapark in Cologne. Screens are set up, small snacks prepared and the camera equipment checked. The first models arrive on time at half past nine. We are excited and the models are already looking forward to the exclusive model coaching. The day is well structured, starting with personal coaching at Lutz, followed by catwalk training at catwalk expert Omega. Besides, short videos of our models are shot and Polaroid photos are taken.

Training Schedule (Sunday): Catwalk, Posing, Presence

Part 1: Running coaching, catwalk training (Omega)

In Run Coaching, Catwalktraining with men Model Omega we practice different running styles, which help you in the model everyday life, on castings and in your jobs. Omega is known as an international model and catwalk coach. Omega teaches you to master every catwalk professionally and perfectly.

Part 2: Personality and charisma (Lutz)

From Modelcoach Lutz you get to know your own strengths and your individual character. As international models and recognized acting coach, Lutz knows how to sell strength. With personality and charisma your appearance with the customer will be perfect in the future.

Part 3: Posing and shooting training (Oliver)

With free posing you inspire your customers. That’s why in the third part of the workshop you will learn from Oliver Rudolph. Oliver Rudolph is a fashion photographer and professional when it comes to staging in front of the camera. He teaches you how to move in front of the camera and how to present fashion pieces and co. perfectly.

Part 4: Choreography (Marcel)

In the final choreographic training you will learn different routes of the international catwalk. For the finale we will run a complete rehearsal together and of course we will give tips and suggestions for improvement.

Part 5: Polaroid Shooting / Personal Video (internal)

During and after the workshop we ask individual persons to make a short shooting appointment. We give you the perfect background for a professional Polaroid set, with white background, optimal light and top photographer. In the second step we shoot a personal video for your next performance at the customer. That means personality, posing, walking! You introduce yourself, call yourself your agency, show yourself in profile (like Polaroids), post in front of the camera and do a walk.

Personality coaching with modeling professional Lutz

Lutz enters the room, numerous pairs of eyes examine the self-confident personal coach, who also works as an experienced model. His charisma is likeable and engaging, we are convinced: He can give our models a lot in the matter of “appearance” with customers. He talks entertainingly about his experiences in the model industry, emphasizing how important charisma and body language alone are for the first impression. Very important: Our models must understand that their body is the decisive working instrument. A training in advance is very important, everyone must get to know his body exactly. The charisma is not only conveyed by emotions, that is new to many. Body Language: An underestimated means to show character. The models must take up space with their aura and show full presence. Interesting: Customers read the characteristics of potential models based on their posture, without many words is a judgment made, job: Yes or no!

How to convey emotions correctly

How do I look sexy? How do I radiate grief when I’m not sad at all? How can I develop anger at the push of a button? Typical thoughts and problems of a model. Acting talent is a must in the modeling business. Just like an actor, a good model must be able to slip into different roles. While the models learn different posing tricks, our photographer Oli takes Polaroid photos and performance videos with each model in single passes. English language skills are tested: Everyone must introduce themselves briefly in English. Lutz goes through some exercises with the other models and lets them recreate typical situations from everyday model life. Shy models have no chance to hide in the crowd, Lutz proves his skills. After one and a half hours, Lutz is almost unstoppable and our models are thrilled, the personality coaching is coming to an end. In cooperation with Lutz, our photographer Oli carries out a short sample shooting with some of the models in front of the group. The newly learned posing techniques are immediately demonstrated. The coaching has had an effect! Our models skilfully implement the learned posing tricks. At the end of the training Oli gives the models some tips for working with different photographers. Now the whole team deserves a short break. The small snack buffet lures with different delicacies and coffee smell fills the foyer.

Catwalk Coaching with catwalk professional Omega

Catwalk professional Omega is already waiting motivated in the event room. Our models occupy their seats with fresh energy and satisfied faces. Omega starts with a big smile and a short straight-walk. WOW, he knows his stuff. His top catwalk rule: Every catwalk performance is about selling! Pressure and internal tension are good, but there must still be a special serenity. The presentation on the catwalk must be controlled, yet relaxed and natural. Fashion is in the foreground, the models only present the products. You have to play a role not only during photo shoots, but also on the catwalk. Omega introduces different catwalk types and does some exercises with the models. The event room is filled with sales rattling, the models improve their weaknesses under Omega’s instructions. Omega spreads a good mood, the models are motivated and constantly improving. Especially the posing turn turns out to be a small catwalk trap. No problem! The group takes it with humor: Like actors on a film set, our models repeat their walks until Omega gives his “Go”. The final walk ends the instructive and entertaining catwalk training. Let’s hear it for Omega!

After the success comes the relaxation

The last show videos will be available soon. Our whole team gathers and the models demonstrate their new catwalk skills. Satisfactory feedback goes through the round. We are proud of our protégés and grateful for the great work of the coaches. A successful Sunday comes to an end. From 5 pm the models make their way home with many new insights. Our Cocaine Models team takes down the props and sets off for the well-earned weekend.
